Video Transcript for Hopkins 12V Power Accessories - Power Socket - HM55125 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number HM55125. This is the Hopkins 12-volt socket with a utility light. The utility light's going to feature an on and off switch here. That way you can control the on and off functions of the light. This is a nice, convenient design that's going to mount anywhere 12-volt power is needed. That surface-mount design, it's got adhesive backing right here so all you got to do is peel off that piece of paper. Then you can stick it and mount it to a nice, clean, smooth surface.

It's also got the little channel right here. That way, you can run the wires through there for the mount to lay flush on whatever surface you want to mount it to. Again, it's going to provide a bonus light that's going to feature two light bulbs in there. It's going to be great for low-lit conditions or low-light conditions. It's going to be ideal for toolboxes or enclosed trailers as well as a wide variety of other possibilities when it comes to mounting the socket and using the light. The socket itself is going to feature a weather-resistant dust cover. It's made from a weather-proof construction which means it will protect the contents from the rain and other bad weather conditions.

This is not fully waterproof. This is not designed to be submerged under water. You're going to notice that it has two wires coming from the socket. Your white wire's going to be your ground wire. Your red wire is going to be your power wire. The white wire has a ring terminal attached to it.

That's going to be so you can make a good ground connection. It needs to be grounded to a clean, rust-free spot on the vehicle frame. The red wire has a butt connector. It is going to be a 14-gauge wire. It's going to get connected to this red wire here. This is going to measure 17 feet in total length which is going to give you plenty of wire needed to reach your vehicle's battery or if you want to put in a secondary battery such as in a trailer or whatever.

They provide 17 feet of wire. That way you can make the connection from the socket to the fuse holder. One end of this red wire is going to connect to the butt connector coming out of the socket on the red wire. The other end of this red wire is going to connect to the butt connector coming out of the fuse holder. Then the red wire with the ring terminal's going to connect to the positive terminal on your battery. It's got the fuse holder here with a nice little cap on it. It's also going to come with the included fuse that's already installed. I do want to go over the overall dimensions of the base here. It's going to give us a diameter of about 2-3/4 of an inch. That's about how much room it's going to take up wherever you choose to mount it. Overall height is going to measure about 2-1/2 inches. We're going to go and hook it up to an external power source. That way you can see what the light looks like with power running to it. We'll get that on there. You can see again it has two bulbs. Sends out a nice, consistent signal. Pretty quick response time when I turn the light on. Again, it's going to feature that nice on and off switch. Makes it a really handy towable socket especially with that utility light for a variety of uses. That's going to do it for today's review of part number HM55125. This is the Hopkins 12-volt socket with a utility light. .

Hi, I got the second part of my order today. I'm having to rebuild the rear half of a travel trailer we bought, got home and realized that it had rotten floors and walls and part of the ceiling. I needed a lot of parts to rebuild this twenty five year old trailer. All the plastic parts and vents were briddle and cracks in them. So I replaced every vent and all hookup fittings. etrailer had most of the parts I needed at a fair price. I looked at several RV parts sites and then ordered most of my items needed from etrailer. Then I got a phone call and they said the ceiling fan/vent I ordered wasn't in stock and would delay my order. I explained I needed some of the parts I ordered the day before I ordered them. So he offered to delete the fan/vent off the order and ship the rest. I said that was fine, or he could ship what he had and then send the fan as soon as he got it. I would have been happy either way, but I really didn't want to have to shop for another fan and I could wait on it because I had enough to keep me busy. So he split the order and sent the parts I needed and the fan showed up the following week. I would definitely order from them again.

Excellent product, I did need to buy longer power wire because of the location on where I was placing this power socket. Very easy to install hardness part is crawling under the truck. Now I can plug my portable refrigerator in the back of my truck. 2015 F150 Crewcab 4x4

  • How To Create a Disconnect Port for the Jensen 12 Volt TV Inside a Trailer
Yes, you can install the Hopkins 12-Volt Socket with Utility Light with Power Wire and Fuse Assembly part # HM55125 in your trailer by attaching the red wire to the positive terminal on your battery and then the white wire to the negative terminal on your battery but I would just go to a bare metal spot on the frame as this will be easier. • Can 12-Volt Cigarette Lighter Socket be Installed in Truck Bed
It sounds like you're trying to convert your 4-way trailer connector to a 12-volt socket in the bed of your truck. This could be done but the amp draw from a 4-way connector is very low and really isn't adequate for 12-volt socket. The better way to do it is to use # HM55125 and run the wiring to your truck's battery for 12 volts.

  • Powering 12V Cooler Stored in Trailer
It looks like your Coleman PowerChill Cooler uses a 12V plug to connect to a 12V power source. Splicing the cooler's wiring to the tail light circuit on your trailer will overload the system and I do not recommend powering the cooler this way. From what I was able to find on the cooler, it appears to come with a cigarette lighter style plug that can be used in a vehicle. If this is the case, I instead recommend taking a look at the Hopkins 12V Socket # HM55125. This 12V power socket can...
