Quiet, Secure Ride
The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.
Non-Binding Latch Handle
The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.
The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".
Built-In Slider
Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.
The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.
To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance.
To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.
Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.
The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

High quality, love the slider feature!
We started full time RVING this year! But I bought the hitch during a sale!
My only concern is that the truck manufacturers, the RV frame manufactures and the hitch manufacturers don’t coordinate. My 2024 RAM bed height plus the hitch at the lowest possible setting does not allow my 5th wheel to be level. I am slightly nose high.
It is possible to get a different brand hitch or the non slider version of the BW that is slightly lower- but I’m not willing to give up the slide feature due to having a short bed truck.
Overall, I’m pleased with it.
I would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for the following.
1. The weight of this hitch makes it extremely hard to remove or reinstall if you ever need to use the truck bed. (But the weight does make it a solid piece of equipment)
2. While installing I followed all the instructions precisely, especially when locking in the puck latches. I made sure the slide moved freely forward and back, but when I put the weight of my camper on it the slide (I made sure I was on level ground) would bind up to a point it really didn’t want to move. I had to loosen two of the puck latches opposite of each other in order to get it to work properly. They are definitely looser than described in the book but not to a point where I feel it to be unsafe. I do like the way this hitch works and I make sure all moving parts and connections are secured properly prior to use.
All in all, I definitely recommend this hitch.
i have had the hitch for about one year and have not once regretted purchasing it. It is extremely well made and more than i need to pull my 10,000 lb fifth wheel, but that gives me great confidence that it is adequate to the task. The only potential negative is that the hitch is heavy, making it difficult to remove from the bed when necessary, It breaks down into 2 parts, the head (not too heavy for one person to remove from the bed), and the base. I intend to get a small derrick crane that attaches to my hitch receiver to lift the base out and drop it on a small 4 wheel dolly so I can roll it into the garage. All in all, I am happy with my purchase.
The hitch was delivered and in perfect condition!! I got it installed and it's just waiting for us to find the perfect wheel to put on top of it!!

The hitch is very easy to operate, easy to hook up and very durable. It is very solid, quite and mantiance free for the most part, a little white grease is all that is needed. Would recommend this to anyone who is purchasing a fifth wheeel, or in need of a new hitch.
I highly recommend B&W. Their hitches are of the highest quality made right here in America with American steel. The price reflects attention to detail and quality assurance, resulting in a SAFE product. Easy to install and use. I would definitely buy again.
Works as expected. Installation was almost perfect. I had to do a little physical persuasion on one clip to get it to line up correctly but nothing a big hammer could not fix. But with confidence from a reliable company.
Nice 5th wheel hitch. Fits into to the new puck system for pickups. The appearance is nice and clean, and very easy to use. No question if the king pin is captured or not as you get a clean view of it and the jaws cover the whole pin. The only downfall is the weight but then it is a 20K lbs. slider. etrailer was very helpful in assuring that the hitch was shipped and delivered ASP.
I am very pleased with this hitch, it fit into the prepped bed of my 2016, 2500 Ram perfectly. This is one heavy duty hitch, made very well. The people at B&W definitely know how to make a hitch. It is heavy (weight wise) but I use a overhead winch to lift in and out of my truck bed, works great. I wanted the best and with this hitch I got it.

Still works great after 13,000 miles towing with this hitch over varied roads. Would buy again if need.
Zero adjustments needed to the pilot assembly, base aligned perfectly and dropped right in. Made minor tension adjustments to 2 latch cams with castle nut. Easy assembly, slider moves easily with just hand pressure. Great product! Looking forward to pulling our 36’ fifth wheel with the new hitch.

Fifth wheel hitch I purchased a year ago is working fine. Still no slack in jaws, hook up and unhook is a breeze. Highly recommend to anyone looking to buy a fifth wheel hitch.
Heavy ! HEAVY DUTY !! You will need help to get it in and out, but you won't have to worry once the trailer is hooked up !
Sold it. Takes up all the bed space. Switched to a Reese goose box and love it so far.
Made extremely well and easy to assemble and install. Every component is substantial, welds are perfect and finish is nice.

Simply perfect. The hitch has performed perfectly while towing fifth wheel camper to Florida from TN, to Smoky Mountains and 9,300 foot RV campsite in Colorado. Funny how other fifth wheel owners talk about adding devices to help remove slack and avoid noises. I feel bad for them but frankly have no idea what they are talking about. My hitch works. No issues. Some things you dont go cheap hand tools, parachutes and trailer hitches...
Hitch dropped right in. directions for assembly and installation were perfect. always a pleasure to deal with this company

This is our send fifth wheel hitch. We had issues with the first one due capture plate. This one doesn’t require one. Live and learn. This one is worth spending more money due to its quality. They also provided us with great customer service. We definitely recommend this product as well as this business.
Easy to install if you are comfortable drilling holes into your metal bed. Is just 1 hole, 2 inches. Plug and play. Haven't connected trailer but i have no reason to think it won't work. In bed 5th wheel electrical connector. Installed on a 2018 ram 2500, short bed. 5th wheel hitch, is amazingly sturdy. Love it, can't wait to tow with it
I never received this hitch. I have disputed the charges with my credit card company. I am now going to have to buy one somewhere else as I’m leasing on transporting RVs. I am very disappointed with how this has been handled.
The hitch itself is great. Mounting in the stock pucks on my Ram 3500 was very simple. The king pin latch is positive when closed and easy to operate. The only drawback is the slider latch. It came undone once and slid back while I was maneuvering. I solved this by using a heavy duty rubber bungee strap to hold it in the locked position. I would recommend this to anyone with a short box truck.
Except for being heavy this hitch couldn’t be easier to install! I needed help getting the base into the truck. So far I’ve only pulled our trailer about 60 miles. It was very very smooth, no chucking, easy to hook and unhook! Looking forward to years of reliable use.

The hitch continues to function without issue. Nice clean design and shows little if any wear at all. I would strongly recommend this hitch.
