Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Installation of the B&W Companion OEM Slider

To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance.

To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.

B&W Companion OEM Ram Feet

Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

Purchase and delivery went very smoothly and was right on time. Hitch was packaged very well. Works exactly as advertised. Got the slider hitch as recommended by eTrailer, good recommendation.
Due to the weight of the hitch it requires two people or hoist mechanism to install it.

It has been an excellent hitch. It is solid, strong and well constructed. Operation is smooth and reliable. I had to rig up a place on the rear of the frame to attach an emergency brake cable. This would be a good product improvement for B&W to consider. Very satisfied with this hitch.

This hitch is easy on and easy off. There are grease fittings easy to access and only a few times a year. It’s a quiet ride and easy to operate. Outstanding purchase. Again, highly recommend this product and seller.

This is a great product, easy to install

.
For those of you that have a extra fuel tank toolbox combo You need at least 6/1/2 to 7 inches from center of puck to tool tank for it to fit. My fuel tank toolbox combo is 20 inches deep or wide that is the most it can be. Included are a couple of pictures but not easy to see as i have a couple of tie straps around tank as well as a bolt down .Also when I have it in the slide back position. Trailer will just barely clear tail gate, but I can leave tail gate down with no problem, it would depend on your trailer..

etrailer is great to work with and have some great videos to help.

2019 GMC Sierra

Great product so far so good not sure I needed the slider in my 2019 gmc Sierra short box but its there if needed very easy install in puck system. I would definitely recommend this hitch to anyone looking for a great product. Fast delivery and very well package.

by:

First time buying from Etrailer and I have to say I am very impressed. The hitch went together easily and fit perfect into the truck. The shipping was great..right to the door of my shop.

by:

This is a extra heavy duty fifth wheel hitch in my opinion it is the best one on the market, it was easy to assemble and install in the puck system. It is very solid. This is my second B&W hitch. I would highly recommend this hitch.

by:

Product looks to be well made. Previously had a rail system hitch and changed to a puck style when I bought a new truck that already had the factory pucks. Needed the slider style as I have a 6' bed and need to slide the position back when manuvering in tight areas, to allow for maximum turning. Easy to install if you are mechanically inclined, required some assembly.

2018 GMC Sierra 3500

Another great experience working with etrailer! Hitch arrived on time and damage free. Installation was a breeze, can't wait to hook up the Camper and try it out. Thanks for your help and follow up

by:

So far I'm very pleased with it this is the first 5th wheel hitch that I have used it was very easy to install now waiting for our new camper so I can make the final height adjustments over all it came in great condition and it came 3 days before I expected it looks very well built I was able to install it by myself but it would be easier if you had a extra hand to put it up in truck

by:

Like the simplicity and security of the design. Easy to install and seems like it will be easy to use and make towing much easier. Will find out next weekend if it does not perform as expected I will update my review.

by:

When starting and stopping the slider part of the hitch has an annoying chucking movement and sound. I called B&W and they told me to be sure the hitch was tight in the puck system attachments but other than that there wasn’t anything they could suggest. For the cost I expected it to be smoother and quieter.

I have gotten in contact with the manufacturer and they have recommended that you need to make sure the bolts on the upright arms are torqued every time that you tow. The torque value on those are 110ft-lbs. If those are torqued, we suggest that you unlock the cams prior to coupling the trailer. Once the trailer is coupled, you can lock in the cams and place the safety loops in the handles.

Hitch showed up fairly quickly and in great shape. No damage at all and was all on a pallet. Estes delivery driver was very friendly and even dropped pallet inside my garage for me. Opened boxes and found very well built hitch and all parts were there! Cant wait to get installed and start towing with it! Thanks etrailer!

After towing with this for 5000 miles plus it was great with no chucking or noise!

Best hitch on the market if you have a big rig! Love the ease of hook up and disconnect. This is our second one, as we went with a new truck with the shorter bed length. I wasn’t sure at first about having to change to the slider version of the B&W Companion, but it’s solid and reliable.
Thanks for an awesome product and great customer service from E-trailer.

2019 GMC Sierra 3500

Product is great! Unfortunately the parts bag from the manufacturer was short a couple of items. I called etrailer and they took care of everything! Overnight delivery on the missing parts. etrailer’s customer service was second to none!

by:

Thanks etrailer for helping me with getting my B&W fifth wheel hitch delivered with a lift gate to my home! Great customer service! Thanks to Josh who personally took care of my shipping needs! Great job! Awesome product!!

by:

The B&W slider hitch has worked great for me, the only thing I would change would be the length of slide. At the farthermost end of the "slide travel" this puts my fifth wheel pin box neck being very-very close to my tailgate. Other than that this is rock solid and locks tight to the king pin and the factory pucks in the bed.
Thanks

by:

I've been hauling RV fivers for over 40 years, and I think my B&W Companion fifth wheel hitch is only my 4th hitch. Last year I bought a shiny new GMC 2500HD Duramax with the hitch puck systems. To celebrate, I decided to treat myself to a new hitch. WOW! Where has this thing been all my life. Easy to install and remove (provided you have a strong helper). What impresses me the most is how quiet it is in the bed while hauling. Hitching and un-hitching is easy-breezy. I can't recommend this fifth wheel hitch enough! Thanks etrailer!

by:

The hitch is great except that it has a tendency to not lock into place when putting it in the rear turning position. Sometimes needs to be slammed into position to get the handle to lock. Its very heavy! Must have two people to move the lower base section. I have a friend that has the Curt hitch and this hitch is much better in my opinion.
It pulls a 38' Mobile Suite.

by:

We have only owned two 5th wheel hitches. Our first one was a Reese slider. This one is by far better quality and easier to use. It provides a much quiter tow . The puck system is awesome on our Duramax. I would highly recommend this hitch, well worth the money.

by:

Wonderful hitch. I did a lot of research on different hitches. This B&W Companion hitch was consistently rated the best, so I bought it. I am not disappointed. It is a great hitch. I have worked in the Quality field for over 43 years, and the quality of this hitch is top of the line. Simply the best. I am very happy with this hitch.

by:

Received B&W fifth wheel companion slider hitch was boxed up well. Very impressed with quality of hitch. Been in service now for a year and love it. Would recommend this product to fifth wheelers out there!

You will not need a sliding hitch like the B&W Companion # BWRVK3770 you currently have. A sliding hitch is needed on a short bed truck because of the positioning of where the hitch will be mounted, in relation to the cab of your truck and it being too close to each other.
