Quiet, Secure Ride
The 3/4" thick jaw on the Patriot is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Patriot has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.
Non-Binding Latch Handle
The dual jaw on the Patriot is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.
The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".
Easily Adjustable Design
The B&W Patriot can be adjusted up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can easily accommodate the height of your trailer.
Built-In Slider
Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.
The slider that is built into the base of the Patriot allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the BMW Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for fifth wheel trailer hitches. This is going to allow you to mount your fifth wheel trailer hitch into your truck. It's going to be an above-bed design, that means that the base rail is going to sit above the bed, and it will take up a little bit of space in that truck bed since they are permanently mounted. We'll have the two base rails that will come with our kit, along with the four angle brackets that are going to attach to our frame. We're going to have the shorter two that are go towards the rear of the vehicle, while the longer two will go towards the cab or the front of the vehicle.This is a universal mount, so there will be some drilling required with this. It should work for most applications even if you have an older truck, a flatbed track, anything like that, as well as newer trucks as well.
With those later model vehicles you might need an additional bracket kit, which is sold separately. You can find those here at etrailer.com. That's going to be a really good option to reduce the amount of drilling that you'll probably have to do with this. You can check those out. Enter your year, make and model and go from there.Again, this does come with the two base rails, the four angle brackets, and all the hardware to get this installed, along with the two fish wires and a set of instructions. The base rails themselves are going to be made of a really nice sturdy steel construction with a thick powder coat finish. One of the things that i like the best about BMW is they have a really nice fit and finish. There's no weld splatter on this. It's just a really nice, durable thick powder coat as well.
It's just a nice looking kit to go into your truck.Another nice thing about BMW is that all of their rails are made in the USA. As far as the dimensions on this, the rail is going to measure 43 inches long by five and three-quarter inches wide. This is going to be compatible with the BMW Patriot, of course, along with the Curt, Draw Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese, and Valley above bed fifth wheel hitches. There was a snafu on the delivery of this, like it ending up 1000 miles from my house on the first try, and then the delivery company getting mad at me for not having a forklift at my house. Since I just got this yesterday I can't say much ab out it yet, I am still trying to install it. I do suggest a hoist in your garage if you plan on removing this hitch at all, it is heavy. It looks to be in great condition though! I can't wait to get it attached so I can give it a test drive on a 2 hour trip. I can tell you that two RV retailers suggested this B&W hitches, so I have high hopes. With all the products on the market today, to get recommendations from two different companies that installs them, is impressive.
The B&W 327018K 5th wheel hitch is an excellent product and a really good value. After my 22 year old Reese 14K hitch broke (compromised the locking jaws) I was unsure what my options were so I called E-trailer. Fortunately I got Alex on the phone. He was extremely helpful and insightful. He told me about the B&W products and that is how I ended up with the 3270. I was concerned about the weight. As a 68 year old retiree, I was able to lift the Reese in/out of my truck but afraid the B&W would be too heavy. Alex told me they offered a product that clamped into 5th wheel jaws of the B&W. If I had a pulley system, a lift, or a tractor it was a piece of cake. I have the latter two. After I received the new hitch I assembled and installed in a couple of minutes. This is a quality hitch. Very well constructed and I can't wait to try it out. If you need the bolt dow rails and kit give yourself plenty of time to install.
2004 GMC 2500HD
This hitch is great! Works flawlessly and is easy to install. Directions for mounting hardware sucks . I I’m on of those who like to just hold it up and see how it works. I recommend reading the crappy instructions and then hold the brackets up. Front bar directions good rear bar is bad .
So far so good. Hitch appears to be good quality. It was easy to install after installing the mounting kit. I haven't used it yet so I can't comment on how it handles when pulling a camper.
Tech assistance with questions and ordering process was great. I will use etrailer again and will recommend them to others.
Unit is solid and well built, just as advertised. Assembly and installation was straightforward but prepare for lifting help as the base unit is quite heavy.
This is a replacement upgrade and I can't wait for weather to get better and go camping.

Great hitch in my 2015 Ram 2500 Short Bed. I had to contact B&W due to a concern with tightening the mounting bolts. The threads in the holes are painted, B&W said to run a tap through the threads. Also I was missing a few bolts on previously installed mounting kit. B&W sent me the whole bolt kit overnight for free. Awesome American company proudly supporting their products. I highly recommend their products. Also etrailer sent this hitch to me in a timely manner at a great price. I would use etrailer again. Thank you!
Wow! Very stout and built solid! A far cry from the Reese 16k slider fifth wheel hitch! The slider and fifth wheel pin lock are very smooth.

Put the 4 pins in before you torque the last rail.
Had to slide mine over an 1/8” for the pins to go in .

Very nice and solid 5th wheel hitch. Very quiet when towing. One important comment: I have a 2019 Chevrolet Crew Cab with 6ft 6 in bed. I am towing a 2019 Grand Design Reflection 5th wheel. Dealership installed the hitch. I seem to have clearance between the cab and 5th wheel when 90 degrees from one another. The 5th wheel hitch overhang will hit the tailgate of the truck when sliding back to locking position. I think its about a 3 inch interference, Make sure you check this by lowering your tailgate before sliding into parking position.
Functionally, this is a rock solid 5th wheel hitch. It takes a bit to get the hang of using it, and it is very heavy to move, when you want to access more of the truck bed. I have yet to use the slider function and after using it for a year, I can’t see that I will ever need to.
Pulled twice now and have great clearance between cab and trailer.
