Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Installation of the B&W Companion OEM Slider

To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance.

To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.

B&W Companion OEM Ram Feet

Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

My hitch arrived well packaged and in excellent condition. Installation was a breeze with the puck system. I previously had a companion hitch, which I loved, that used the underbed gooseneck attachment for installation, but my new truck came with the factory mount locations. I was happy to see that B&W offered solutions for trucks with the factory mounting locations. The only caution I have is to make sure you have someone to help with installation due to weight. They are not light hitches!

by:

This is a well built and heavy duty hitch. Assembly is quick and easy and easy to adjust to fit your height requirements. I would highly recommend B&W hitches to anyone in the market for an affordable well built product. ETrailer was very accommodating with my delivery and shipping was fast and easy. Great customer service.

So after a year of use. I still think this is the best hitch on the market. This is my second B&W hitch and extremely satisfied with its quality.

by:

This hitch is great. We have owned a fifth wheel camper for approx. 25 years. I had a similar hitch when we started towing a fifth wheel due to a short bed truck. However we traded campers about five years ago and the dealer talked us into a hitch that automatically slides. What the dealer and the hitch company doesn't tell you is that to hitch up or unhitch your truck and trailer have to be almost completely straight. That is a pain in the *** when you can't always be perfectly straight. Having to slide the hitch is so much easier. I had the hitch delivered and installed it in approx. one hour. However I also have a compressor and air tools which help to ensure that the nuts and bolts are tight. It's a sturdy hitch that will last a long time. To remove the hitch it only takes turning four levers a quarter turn. It's heavy to remove but I purchased a folding engine hoist that lifts it out easily.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

The hitch works great, easy to hook-up and is very quiet while pulling. My only complaint is that I did not need the slider attachment. I used both B&W and Curt’s guides and they both showed that I needed the slider. Once installed I tried it and I have at least 6” of cab clearance at 90deg without sliding the hitch back. The slider adds a lot of weight and expense that was not necessary.

Hitch is still working well. I did find a use for the slider, I can slide the hitch back which lowers the height of my 5th wheel just enough to get into my barn without removing the front AC cover. Not what the slider was designed for but it works!

I have owned this hitch type in my 2019 and 2022 GMC to haul my 40 foot 5th wheel and it works great. I have had other people who haul their 5th wheel compliment me on my choice.

I bought this a year ago for my new truck and it works great. No problems. To keep someone from stealing out of the bed of the truck, I replaced the pins with combination pad locks. Safe a secure now

by:

Installation was easy. First time pulling a 5thwheel camper and so far no issues. I questioned if I really needed the slider. I have not needed it so far. The camper dealer recommended the slider model for new owners pulling a 5th wheel for the first time. We are doing a big trip out west in the Fall and I might switch to the non-slider model after that trip.

2024 GMC Sierra 2500

There are two long scratches along the left rail that did not happen during shipping. This is going into a new truck and I need to paint it to keep it from rusting. etrailer credited me just over 5% of the total price of the hitch. I am very disappointed with their resolution. Shipping costs both ways to resolve this issue would be nearer $300. I won't be purchasing any more products from etraler.

by:

This companion 5th wheel hitch was a cinch to install. It works perfectly with my 5th wheel weighing 12,600 dry. I recommend it if you have the GM prep package on your truck.

by:

high quality hitch. great build quality. very confident in towing my large RV. The videos on etrailer were very informative and helped me make the right purchase for my use.

I’m 66 years old. Camped for 60 years in tents, slide-in’s, tags and 5th wheels from an early age with friends and family. Don’t mind paying for a product if it is as advertised. I’ve owned several of the competitors products Gooseneck and 5th wheel. Bought one last new truck for retirement travel…decided to buy a new 5th wheel hitch.
The B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel w/Slider for my 2022 Chevrolet 2500 HD Duramax 4X4 is the BEST hitch I’ve ever owned.
If you don’t buy this hitch…you are missing out on the best 5th Wheel hitch hands down!

PS- B&W isn’t paying me a penny for this review. I paid to buy their product…absolutely NO REGRETS!

Thanks B&W for building a quality hitch. I am confident in towing anything..anywhere..anytime with this hitch.

2022 GMC Sierra 2500

I rated it the best but I think that it will interfere with my tailgate, on my 2022 GMC Denali. and i was missing some hardware, the spring and just two bolts for the handle, the spring would be nice.

Do not fret Customer Service will reach out about the missing items. As for the tailgate, the autoslide is great and should clear it. That being said, some people still opt to put on an alternative tailgate just in case. Unfortunately, we do not have one that currently fits the 2022 GMC Sierra.

2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Solid piece of equipment. No complaints as far as quality and functionality. Best 5th wheel hitch on the market. My only problem is the handling (removal and installation) because it's soooo heavy. I could of probably been okay with the non-sliding frame as my 2023 2500 chevy has the 6'-9" bed. I've never had to use the slide function.

by:
2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

B&w is the best hitch on the market. This is my second one and I am very happy with it. And the reason why it’s my second one is because I bought a new truck. My last hitch I used for 8 yrs with no problem.

by:
2022 GMC Sierra 3500

The shipping was delayed but not a big deal. I ordered the B&W hitch because of the reputation and best of all it's American made.
I was able to install the hitch in an hour. Make sure you have help to lift it, it's heavy...

Best fifth wheel hitch I have owned

by:

It has served me well! It is strong and I feel confident going down the road with it as my hitch. My only reservation was in the use of the slider portion. I put my hitch placement on the medium setting as that was the most level with the trailer. Unfortunately, when I slid the slider back, the fifth wheel kingpin assembly scratched up the top of my tailgate on my brand new 2020 GMC Denali 3500 as I backed into the campsite. I would suggest telling customers to put it on a higher setting if they are using the slider with some newer model trucks. I have since stopped using the slider portion and just watch my hard turns carefully.

by:
2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

I'm thankful that the truck driver delivering my hitch agreed to let me back my PU up to his lift gate and sat it down in the back of my truck. That sucker is heavy! Took about 45 minutes to install. Very well built!

by:

Very nice slider hitch for my 5th wheel. Came with minimal assembly required and also had manuals for both assembly and usage. I would recommend this product to anyone purchasing one.

by:

Product delivered is as shown, installation was easy and the hitch is working well.

by:

This hitch is top quality. I fits perfectly in my 2020 GMC Denali 3500 puck system. It is heavy duty and works flawlessly. I have a 2018 Jayco Designer 43’ 5th wheel and this hitch handles it with no issues. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a 5th wheel hitch. etrailer had the best price and offers great customer service. I’m very satisfied with my purchase.

by:

Awesome set up have no complaints with this 20k companion, one of the best 5th wheels b&w could have made for the 2020+ duramax hd trucks. Love all features easy install and uninstall besides the weight. Have yet to use on rv but so far has been great with my 40 ft gooseneck

by:

I really like the hitch and the function of the hitch, but that thing is so heavy I'm afraid I'll hurt myself installing it, it is super heavy and hard to handle.

Yes, you absolutely can use a B&W fifth wheel hitch in your short bed 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500. We do recommend using a slider hitch since you have the short bed. If your truck already has the OEM puck system in the bed, you can use the B&W Companion Slider # BWRVK3775. This is their 20K rated slider hitch.
