Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).
Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.
Non-Binding Design
The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.
With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.
With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.
Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

What's up, everybody It's A.J. with etrailer.com Today, we're gonna be checking out the Curt Q20 5th wheel hitch assembly. And today we're putting it on the Curt adapter for the above-bed puck system that comes OEM with this 2022 Ram 2500. Right away we wanna point out that we are in a shorter six foot bed on this Ram. So this would really only work with a longer bed and eight for one just because of it's a static hitch, it's not gonna move around. So it would work with a slider.
You can get it in a kit with that if that's something you need but it will not work with the sidewinder style King Pin. So just keep that in mind. I think this will work great for the eight foot bed. Now today the way we have this set up is since our Ram has the factory under bed puck system, as we use the adapter from Curt and that's gonna go into those pucks and allow you to attach the fifth wheel legs to the adapter itself. That way it's above bed and you can still use this if you already had this assembly.
You just need to get the adapter to use it in your new truck with the pucks. Let's look at how it connects. It's got a two jaw system, which is better than just the one jaw system. Which that usually works but this gives you a complete coverage of the kingpin so you know it's secure in there. It's really easy operate.
We've got the handle here. I'll pull the pin. Pull this back. Even has an indicator on this side that lets you know. So it's green, so it means it's good to tow right now because it would be connected if we had something in there.
So come here, pull the side. We are in red, so that means it's uncoupled and then yellow would be it's coupled. It's ready to go. So when it's in yellow now we back up to the King Pin, it would activate these jaws. I'm gonna show you how the jaws work. This is gonna be a King Pin insert. So we're backing up to the trailer on the King Pin. It gets lined up with the two jaws. Once it hits the jaws and pushes back, they go into place. So that brings the handle in. So now the indicator's gonna be green for ready to tow. You wanna make sure you latch it back just for extra security and then you're ready to hit the road. As far as security goes, you don't have to just use this pin. It's nice as this is included, but sold separately, you can get a padlock run through there and lock this up. That way no one can unlatch this and mess with this when you're not around. When you go to set it up or back it up to your trailer, the head does pivot back and forth so that's gonna help you adjust. If it's slightly off and you're coming in and you don't have to worry about it straight on, it will adjust to you backing in. So I'll show you kind of here. I'll pull it an angle. You might not be able to see much but also pull it in to the side. It still adjusted just fine. You can see it pivots back and forth and can go front and back. So it will adjust as you back that King Pin in. You also get this plate that acts as a barrier on your King Pin. So you put it all the way on there on the bottom and that's gonna protect it against metal on metal contact. So instead it'll hit that plate as it comes in here. Which is gonna keep from scraping everything up. There's also gonna be three points to help add grease to it to keep it moving easily. So there's gonna be one up right on front. There's gonna be on the left side and there's gonna be one on the right side. Another nice thing about this is you can detach the head from the base, which is gonna not only make it lighter but easier to install or remove. So I'm gonna pull the clips on the inside and show you the two pin system. There's one on this side. So you have one on the opposite side. Then you're gonna lift and remove the head out. Now it does resist a little bit, so you will have to pull up. And as I shake it back and forth, it slowly starts to come out. And I can remove that, set it aside, and then remove the base separately. The Q20 is gonna have a gross total weight rating of 20,000 pounds. It's gonna have a vertical load limit of 5,000 pounds. And this does weigh 139 pounds. So if you need help with it, get some help loading into the truck and set in the place. Now you can disassemble it, remove the head to make it a little bit lighter and easier for one person. Installing is really easy. We just drop it off the adapter, line up the tabs with the holes, and it goes right in the place. We'll go underneath and add in our pin and clips. Overall, I think this is a good fifth wheel hitch. Now if you have the eight foot bed, it's gonna be better. Don't recommend it for the six foot bed just because of how limited it is. But the jaws going right around the King Pin, really nice. It's all the way around there. It's gonna take up some of that rattling. The way it adjusts when you back up into it is gonna be really easy to do as well. The handle was easy to pull out. It had the color code here on the side so if you did have a backup camera here or you could see it in the mirror, you could see that it was green and good to go and you're good to tow. OEM adapter rails included.Fits like a glove. From the time UPS dropped it off it took 45 minutes to have it installed in the truck and we were hooked up to go camping, which we did! Thanks to the team for getting it shipped asap! 2020 Ram 2500 with the factory puck system.
Love the hitch, slider's OK, my truck hates them though. It'd probably be fine in a different vehicle but The "acceptable play" in the slider mechanism is at a resonance to my truck and camper creating a vicious front-back oscillation hitting rough surfaces. After addressing several other issues and the problem persists. Finally, I 3D Printed bushings to eliminate the play which almost completely eliminates the oscillation. On the bright side, Curt and etrailer are working with me on it.
1st off, customer service was Awesome, the ladies Ashley & Kim knew what they were talking about when helping me order my hitch.
Installation was fairly easy, would help if you had a 2nd person but I got it done.
The 1 thing that might be an issue is the height of the hitch when added with the height of the mount. I am hoping the new trailers kingpin will adjust low enough so the trailer rides level.
For the hitch itself, I like it so far, can't wait to see how the full wrap around jaws works.
I would recommend etrailer to anyone that needs a hitch.

The box came destroyed after being sent to south Florida instead of Cumming, GA. It sat for 5 days 20 miles from my house before being sent to South Florida. The hitch would be usable but the 8-M12 carriage bolts are missing so it can't be assembled. Now what to do? I need this yesterday.
it fit perfectly in my RAM 2500 2022 , it reduce the height by 3.5 inch from my original roller Curt set up, since I have air suspension in the back I will simply said be careful when you disconnect because the back of the pick up spring upward when load is removed. The reason I switch was the high of the roller sytem and the puck was way too high for my fifth wheel.
The Curt A16 5th wheel w/ R16 slider is a great looking hitch. I received the hitch on May 11, 2023, replacing an older Reese 15K hitch with a slider lock bar. It was easy to finish the assembly and install. I immediately took my fifth wheel out, using the new hitch with the dual jaw locking system. The ride was amazing. The RV, which weighs approximately 10,000 pounds, loaded, did not buck or rattle, and responded perfectly to the turns, acceleration and deceleration with no issue. It was if there was nothing behind me.
The only issue with the Curt A16 is the height. At its lowest setting, the nose of the trailer was up too high. However, by raising the tongue of the RV to its highest setting, I was able to remedy most of that issue. I am looking forward to my trips this year with the new hitch!
So far it works great. Only pulled in a short distance and backed it up into my driveway. Make sure you have help lifting this. Very Very heavy. Directions were average but got the job done. Love the extra turning radius on my short bed F250. Make sure all the parts are there. The handle to release the king pin off the hitch was not in the packaging. The box that the hitch and slide came in were all in tacked and looked good. Emailed etrailer and within a few hours they sent were processing the order for the handle. Arrived in 2 days. That's great customer service.
The hitch works great for us pulling our 5th wheel camper.
Ram 2500/3500 fit issue. If you purchase this slider hitch and Curt OEM puck system rails (which is a package recommended on the website), this hitch will sit nearly at the same level as your bed rails at the lowest height setting. This makes the front of the 5th wheel sit quite high. I tried adjusting my pin box to make this work, but no luck. This setup won’t work for my Ram 2500. Due to restock fees and having to pay for return shipping costs, it’s not worth trying to return.
On a positive note etrailer.com is a great place to purchase truck and trailer parts, so don’t hesitate to purchase from them once you find the right hitch for your Ram.
Great solution when moving to a truck with the puck system. This was cheaper than buying rails,brackets, and install costs, and when removed the bed is clean.
First off I just got done installing the hitch and I hooked on my 35ft fith wheel trailer and went for a ride with windows down sun roof open and not a single rattle , clank , or noise from the bed of the truck with this hitch . It was easy to assemble but I did have one spot where the paint got chipped on the slider during shipping so I just touched it up . Very satisfied with hitch it latches automatically when you back in to it and the slider part works like it should .
Have not gotten to tow yet but everything went together fairly easy. One major disappointment was the shipping and the packages were dumped in my driveway.
I bought a 2023 Ram 3500 that had the factory pucks in it, so I needed this adapter so I could continue using my B&W Patriot hitch. This fit my truck perfectly and my hitch fits this adapter perfectly. Even better than it fit the rails in my old truck, actually. This does raise the hitch probably an inch higher that it was, so be aware of that. One part of the instructions is out of order. How to adjust the locking mechanism is at the very end. You need to adjust each one as you go. Other than that, it was very intuitive and easy to put together. I did use a little blue Loctite on the nuts, but that's me. This thing is beefy. I'm sure it will last a long time.
Upgraded from TT to fifth wheel. Once I learned the basic operation I have had mo problems with this hitch. Rides a little high because of adapter for factory puck adaptor but still fits my tonneau cover which I also bought from etrailer.
The Curt system is really high quality. No issues at all putting the system in. One thing I do like is the position of the plate handle. It does not stick upward and is even with the plate. By designing the handle that way I can still cover my bed with my tonneau cover where other manufactures the handle was higher than the bed rail. The price was excellent and dealing with customer service was the same.
Everything works very well, quality built. Only issue I had was the pins to lock the fifth wheel hitch to the spider arms. The pins were too large in diameter for the holes when I used the isolation pads. So you may need to find slightly smaller diameter pins at the hardware store, I was in a hurry and used the grinder to allow them to fit, but later found smaller pins to use.
Looks like a received a returned hitch. All my hardware is missing. And still waiting on one box. The sliding rails. Starting off to a bad start.

Great product. Easy to assemble and fits perfectly in standard bed rails on 22” center. I have coupled up with it but have not towed with it yet. Have a short trip of about 400 miles coming up in about 2 weeks. So far I am very happy with the way it couples and slides. Unlike my old square tube slider this one is very smooth and the price was right . Ordered late afternoon on Thursday and it delivered on Monday. Great shipping time. I like everything about it especially the fact that when you uncouple it is automatically set to recouple.
Very happy with this hitch. Installed it myself with the installation instructions and trailer videos. Mush easier to operate than my old hitch.
I am very pleased with my 5th wheel hitch.the install of the rails went well,and the assembly of the hitch itself also went well.first time towing 5th wheel no problem. I thought it was great that it was delivered promptly to my home no charge freight,that I believe saved me a lot money. I look forward to doing more towing this summer knowing the hitch is quality . Great hitch and great value. Our trailer is 2000lbs on the hitch and 12000lbs loaded, so not a huge rig. My favorite feature on this hitch is the locking jaw system, it makes coupling and un-coupling very smooth. The slider (when rarely used) is very smooth as well. Most of our towing is in the Colorado mountains and I feel very safe using this hitch. Lastly, I know this is just aesthetics, but it's a nice looking hitch.
We love our Curt A16 5th Wheel Hitch W/r16 Slider that we purchased last year through etrailer.com. This hitch is a top quality, well-made hitch. It's very easy to hitch and unhitch. We couldn't be happier.
This is my first fifth wheel. I have a short bed so I got the package deal with the hitch and the slider. Took me about 5 hrs to install with the custom mounting brackets and rails for my 2015 chevy 2500 HD. Everything went as the instructions said without any issues. I have only pulled my RV with it one time just to try it out. Felt very smooth no rattles or pops as I have herd with other hitches. So far I like it a lot.
I called etrailer.com & spoke to a representative. After telling him which truck I had & the RV I was purchasing, he made 2 suggestions. I went with the Curt sliding 5th wheel hitch. With the hitch at it's lowest setting & the kingpin box at it's highest setting, the RV continues to sit 4 inches higher in the front compared to the back. When I called etrailer.com, I was told by the rep to speak with someone higher. I left a message on his voicemail. That was 2 days ago & still no call.
Needless to say I am disappointed.
