Note: This fifth-wheel trailer hitch is not compatible with rotating pin boxes, such as the Reese Sidewinder, Reese Revolution, and 5th Airborne Sidewinder.
Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).
Curt's unique spherical axial bearing provides a durable pivot point that allows easy, 360-degree movement of the hitch head. This ball joint is designed for smooth, quiet operation with less clunking and chucking.

Today we are going to take a look at and demo the Curt q20 fifth wheel hitch, part number C16130. Now here is what our fifth wheel assembly looks like, right out of the box. The only exception is, we went ahead and took the legs and bolted them onto them onto the main assembly with the hardware that is included. Here on top, we have our lube plate that comes with the hitch, and that is just to hold it. So let's just go ahead and take the lube plate off. As we open it up, we'll notice a two jaw design, meaning both sides of this will close around our king pin.
Giving us 360 degree coverage of our king pin for less rattling and increased safety. Now if I take the lube plate holder and put it back in, we can go ahead and force those jaws to close, so we can get a good idea of what it looks like around our king pin. Good, quality holding, 360 degrees all away around our king pin. Now the great feature is its got 360 degree tilting, which means it can go on a diagonal, off any corner, forward, back, even side to side. Next, we're going to take a look at our handle here. The handle has a pin in it now. If we put a padlock in here, it would lock our handle and no one would be able to release our king pin.
We will go ahead and take our pin and clip out, set it aside. Remove the lock that is on the handle now, and we can open it up releasing our jaws. Now as the handle locks out, you will notice that inside the indicator window it is red. That means we are not ready to tow. Then as we release the handle, it will go to yellow.
This means the jaws are open and they are ready to receive the king pin. When the jaws close, we will get green inside our window, and we are now ready to tow. We can go ahead and throw the lock back on our handle, slide the pin in and our handle is locked and we are ready to head on down the road. Maintenance of our fifth wheel assembly is real easy. Its got three easy to use grease zerk's. One on each side, here on the passenger side and then an identical one on the driver's side, and then there's one right down the middle right above where our king pin would sit.
There are three grease fitting stickers, if you just follow the arrows that will lead you right to your grease zerk. Another really nice feature of our fifth wheel assembly, is its height adjust ability. Meaning, here we are set with our legs at the highest adjustment point. We could lower it 2 inches, or even 4 inches and go here at the top set of holes. Each leg has two bolts that go into pre-threaded legs, making it super easy to remove and reinstall. Now our hitch is capable of up to 20,000 pounds towing weight and 4,000 pounds of vertical load limit. Now let's go ahead and show you how to install your hitch. Now keep in mind our q20 is designed to go in the universal rails. Meaning, whether it is a nice set of Curt rails like this one, or other manufactures, they are all designed basically the same so that attachments are interchangeable. Let's go ahead and set the hitch assembly in place. Now with our hitch comes four pins and four clips for securing to the rails. We will simply slide it through the rail, go through the hitch, then back through the rail, then put our clip on to lock it in place. There you have it, our demonstration on the Curt q20 fifth wheel hitch, part number C16130.
