Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at the Pullrite SuperGlide 5th-Wheel Hitch for your short-bed truck. Now, this 5th-wheel hitch is going to mount in your truck bed by attaching to the industry-standard above-bed rails, which are sold separately, so that you can tow your 5th-wheel trailer. Let me give you just a brief view of where this is going to connect. So, you're going to get this hardware, so this will slide into the slot inside of your rails and then you'll just secure it with the included pins and clips, so it's going to be pretty easy to get that into place on your rails that you currently have inside the bed of your truck. Now, this does have a gross towing weight of 20,000 pounds and a vertical load limit of 5,000 pounds.
The total weight of this unit is right about 220 pounds or so. The base is about a little over 170, and the head is going to be a little over 40 pounds. So, all that to say, this is going to be a lighter-weight option compared to some of the other heavier auto-slide options that are out there from other manufacturers. So, because this is a lighter weight option physically to lift, it's gonna be easier to get this installed into the bed of your truck, easier than some of those other heavier options from other manufacturers that are auto-sliders. Now, as I mentioned, this does feature an automatic slider that's going to let you safely make turns with your short-bed truck, so you're not gonna have to worry about getting into and out of your truck to operate a manual slider.
So, let me give you a brief demonstration of this from that angle first. So, I do have this loosened up a little bit just so I can easily show you the sliding action, as you can see. So, very easy, very smooth operation. Lemme give you an overhead look there so you can see a little bit better. So, this is designed to allow your truck to turn up to 90 degrees to your trailer.
Now, other variables do come into play, such as trailer width, and squared off or rounded corners and the location of the potential point of trailer-to-cab contact. But as you can see, the head is going to slide toward the tailgate, and then when you're straightening out, it's going to slide back towards the cab when you're straightening out that turn, just like that. So, no, there's no gears or easily breakable parts. What you have here, and you're not gonna be able to see it of course, but we have something like a tube here that's going to slide down these rails here depending on which way you're turning, so that's really nice. You don't have gears or small parts to worry about maintaining.
It's really gonna be little maintenance at all with this. So, you're gonna get a travel of 14 inches front to back, and this has a total height of about 18 1/2 inches. I do wanna point out that a capture plate is going to be required for this SuperGlide, and the plate is, as you probably know, is attached to your trailer's skid plate, so when you're hooked up into your SuperGlide Hitch and ready to tow, that capture plate's gonna isolate the rotation of your trailer's kingpin in this hitch, so movement and rotation is then transferred to the automatic cam action of the SuperGlide Hitch, moving it away from the cab along its rails to prevent the trailer from contacting the cab of your truck. So, let me give you another overhead look here and just give you a brief demonstration of our self-locking hitch plate here. So, I do have a kingpin here to demonstrate just how easily this is going to couple. This is ready to receive the kingpin, so lemme just slide this into place here. (kingpin clacks) So, as you can see, that's going to automatically locked just like that. Now, the jaw is going to close and that handle's going to, as I mentioned, lock automatically when that kingpin's in place, and then I'm gonna go ahead and just release this, and I wanna just point out, hopefully you can see that there, the precisely laser-cut jaw and of course, that wraparound jaw creates less rattle, it's going to offer more security than slide-bar jaws. And then let me, I'll go back to my wide view here, show that to you again, watch the handle. (kingpin clacks) So, it's gonna be very easy to couple. You can slide a padlock through here if you would like to lock this into place so someone just can't come by and uncouple this from your kingpin. So, very easy to hook this up. It's dual-articulating head, so that's going to help make hookup easier. It's gonna help limit chucking. It pivots front to back and side to side. And this is made here in the USA of American steel. It has a black powder coat finish to protect it from rust and corrosion. So, Pullrite makes all of their products with a high-quality American steel, so this is gonna hold up really well for you. So, again, I'm a big fan of how this actually slides by itself and the way that Pullrite was able to engineer that. And so because of the way that they've engineered this, again, this is gonna be a lighter-weight option to install other those heavier ones, and it's really going to be a great and essential benefit for you if you're towing 5th-wheel trailers with a short-bed truck. So, great item here by Pullrite, and again, 20,000 pounds for the gross towing weight, 5,000 pounds for the vertical load limit. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.
