Reese Double Jaw

Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Unlike the more economical slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Kwik-Slide Square-Tube Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Video Transcript for Reese Ram OEM 5th Wheel Rail Adapter Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this Reese 5th-Wheel Adapter. So it's gonna be an adapter for your OEM puck system in the back of your truck so that you can put on a fifth wheel. Now we're gonna be putting on a 2022 Ram 2500 today. Now this 5th-Wheel Adapter is gonna be a base for your fifth wheel. So this drops down into the puck system.

That's OEM, it's already in your truck bed, which means you don't have to drill any holes to install a fifth wheel and makes it really easy to put this in when you need it or even take it out when you don't want it in here. Use the pucks in the back of the bed. So it's as easy as picking up the adapter and setting into place. So I'm gonna do that by staying in the middle of it. You grab both ends, bend at the knees, go ahead and lift it up.

Again, bend at the knees, drop into place. You line up the bottom parts right with the pucks and it falls into place. Now make sure it falls flat into place. All around, you might have to adjust if it's moving around just a little bit. You see the back end needs to go down so just make sure you put your hand.

Your apportion where there's the indent in the bed so you don't smash your hand. There you go, that one's down in place. Looks like we've gotta fix this one as well. Just some minor adjustments. Far easier than lifting a whole assembly.

So I need to turn this arm in a little bit and it'll fall into place. There we go, and now I fold all the arms in. They all meet in the middle. On both sides, we're gonna do that and add our clips. With the arms, pulled it in and on top of each other, you can just drop the pins through and push the clip over it. That's gonna keep them in place and do that on both sides. Now, if it didn't go right in the place, it's not perfect every time, you can do some adjustments. So if the first time it's a little rough, you can come here with a screwdriver, pop off this plastic cap. It wasn't installed when we unboxed it so that's something we added on there. So maybe leave 'em off for the first installation. But once that's exposed now you can use the tool that's included to make some adjustments so you can back this off. So it's gonna raise or lower that bolt to make it a little bit easier for it to drop into place. With it dropped and locked into place, you see I can't lift up on it so it's not gonna go anywhere. Another nice thing about the adapter is if you already have a fifth wheel assembly, chances are it will fit in here. I'm gonna give you the measurements from center to center. On the outermost holes, it's gonna be 29 inches. From inside to inside, center to center, it's gonna be 21 inches. So if it matches up with one of those it's gonna drop right into place. The adapter's gonna be compatible with: B&W, Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese, and Valley Above Bed 5th-Wheel trailer hitches. It also works with most industry standard sliders. The adapter is rated for 25,000 pounds and also it adds two inches of height to your fifth wheel. So if you are using an existing one that's set up already, you might have to adjust that head height just to make sure it adjusts to that extra two inches. And then the assembly itself is matted with black powder coated steel, so we know it's gonna hold up. Overall, I think this adapter's gonna be really helpful especially if you've just got a new truck with this system. You don't have to buy a whole new setup. You just buy this adapter and use the fifth wheel you already had which makes everything easier. You don't have to get used to using a new assembly or anything. You just drop this into place, install it, and you're good to go. It's an easy way to convert the under bed fifth wheel to an over bed fifth wheel. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. Hope this helped..

For your 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500, the manufacturer puck system is not available in aftermarket but there is a very similar option to give you the 4 pucks. It is the Reese Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit for Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30868. Typically you can raise the pin box in the frame brackets of the trailer to allow the nose of the trailer to sit lower. I would see if you can do that as that might be an easy fix. The Curt A16 hitch for Ram rail kits part # C16520-16021 has a height adjustment range of 14 to 18 inches so if your is measuring 20 inches that to me seems like yours isn't in the lowest position or you are using the hitch designed for industry standard rails and a rail kit adapter part # RP30154 which would...

Kenneth from what I researched yes that trailer is going to be too heavy for your 1500. It looks like your Dodge has a 3,500 to 5,200 lb towing capacity so with that trailer being already at the end empty means you're going to be over the limit. My suggestion is to look at smaller trailers so you don't run the risk of overloading your truck. But with that being said, you're still going to need a hitch no matter what you choose to do, so I'd recommend going with the Curt Trailer Hitch...

  • 5th Wheel Base Rail Kit for 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Extended Cab Pickup
On your 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 the towing capacity of your trailer and the bed size are the two big issues. The towing capacity can range between 3,600 lbs to 8,100 lbs depending on how it is equipped. Since there are several different options your truck could have you will want to check the owners manual of your truck to determine what the towing capacity of your specific vehicle is. The sticker inside your driver's door is also a great resource for the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of your...

  • Replacement Handle Kit for Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider # RP30051
I may have a solution for you, however the Pro Series Replacement Handle Kit # 58180 referenced in your question is not compatible with your Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider # RP30051. This replacement handle is designed specifically for the Pro Series model # 30056. The only replacement handle we currently have available that will fit your Reese 5th Wheel is the Reese # 58055, which does have a similar bend at the handle when compared to the original piece that came...

  • Can I Transfer 5th Wheel Hitch Base Rails from a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 to a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500
Your 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 base rails can transfer to your 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 (because they are in the same generation). You will need to get new custom fit wiring # HM42137 (the 1999 custom fit wiring is # C56001) & replacement hardware kit for Draw-Tite and Reese 5th wheel hitches # 58164. I included a couple installation videos and a helpful article for you too.

  • Will Reese 16K Hitch RP30051 Fit In Curt Above-Bed Base Rails
The Reese 16K 5th wheel hitch # RP30051 will fit into any industry-standard 5th wheel base rails, including rails from Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden-Hitch, Husky, Pro Series, Reese and Valley. These are the same type of rails that accept the Curt Q 20 hitch # C16130. Since you have long bed you won't need to use a sliding hitch and could instead use the fixed model # RP30047 If you happen to need a replacement 5th wheel wire harness for the bed of the truck you can use part # C56000, which...

  • How Much Does The B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider BWRVK3670 Weigh?
This B&W companion hitch # BWRVK3670 is one of the most well built 5th wheel hitches on the market and weighs in just shy of 300 lbs. One good thing is that the head is easily detachable from the base. The head weighs 70 lbs and the base is about 230 lbs by itself. So you do not have to lift the whole thing at once. B&W also makes a lifting tool part # BWRVXA3130 which can make moving the hitch much easier. The lift tool inserts in the jaw where the king pin would go and basically give...

  • Why Can I Not Mount a Fifth Wheel Hitch so that the King Pin Sits Behind the Rear Axle of the TRuck
The main problem with mounting the hitch so that the kingpin falls that far back in the bed is that having all that weight behind the rear axle would lighten the load on the front axle to the point that steering control and braking power might be compromised. A much better alternative would be to use a hitch with a slider such as part # RP30051 or a Sidewinder rotating pin box.

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2000 Ford F-250 Short Bed
For fifth wheel towing height clearance you want at least 6 inches between the bed rails and the trailer overhang while the trailer sits level to avoid bed rail interference on elevation changes. Now what I suspect you are really interested in is turning clearance since you have a short bed truck and they typicallyneed a slider hitch to allow the trailer to slide without hitting the nose of it to the cab of the truck. So for a slider hitch that would work well we have the Reese part #...

  • Will Reese 5th Wheel Hitch # RP30051 Fit Factory Rails in 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty
The Reese 5th Wheel Hitch # RP30051 fits industry-standard above bed base rails so in order to use it in your 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty with the factory rail kit you'll need the Reese rail adapter # RP30156. The adapter fits into the factory rail system and provides the equivalent of standard base rails. Please note the adapter adds 2-inches of height to the hitch set-up. If your bed with factory rail system is a 6-3/4-foot length you can directly install a hitch like the Demco Auto-Slide...

  • Can the Pull-Rite Slide Hitch Be Used With Long Bed Ram
Yes, if your current hitch is mounted using the OEM puck system and you are moving into the same vehicle but longer bed, the OEM puck system will be the same and therefore mount without change. While a slide hitch is not needed for a long bed, for slow turns when a slide hitches' movement comes into play, it will not cause any issues outside the ever present need to be concerned with turning radius. When you are ready to change 5th wheel hitch, I strongly suggest that you consider the...

  • Recommended Lightest Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for the Ram Puck System
Hey Debbie, I have a solution for you but the sliders are all going to be heavy due to them having to support the additional movement. Since your Ram has the factory puck system, I recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider item # RP87MR. It has a 16,000 lbs capacity and will give you 10" of travel from front to back. Assembled the Reese item # RP87MR weighs 140 lbs. Due to the overall weight of the hitch, Reese designed it so it could be taken out of a truck bed piece by...
