How It Works

Paired with your AC unit (sold separately), this electric heat strip takes the chill out of your RV on cool, frosty mornings. After you turn the dial to the heat setting, the compressor will shut off, and the fan will blow air over the heater and into your RV. When the optimal temperature has been reached, turn the dial to a fan or cooling setting. Please also note that the heat strip only has one temperature setting and cannot be controlled by the thermostat.

Simple Installation

Advent Air Electric Heat Strip

To install, mount the heat strip to the evaporator inside the AC unit with the included mounting screws. The heat strip has easy, plug-and-play installation with the supplied 30" power cord.

The first time I plugged it up it didn’t turn on. I jiggled the cable and it started heating. I then installed it and turned it on again it doesn’t seem to work so I jiggled the wires and it seems to be working but it’s not very hot at all. Luke warm air at best. I’m somewhat disappointed with the outcome. I read reviews before I purchased this. Some said it worked well, and others said it didn’t heat well. I’m going with the latter. Does not heat well enough.

by:

A/C was delivered as promised, fit perfectly and operating better than the old Domestic that was replaced 3 years ago. Hopefully it will last as long as the 10 year old rear unit has lasted. I plan to replace it next summer with another one of these Avent units.

Toasty heat strips

by:

Works well. easy to install. Only knocks the chill off. You will still need an alternate heat source if you are in cold weather.

by:

Unit went out in less than one year. Things happen. ASA electronics sent out a new unit quickly but refuses to pay for the install on their faulty unit.

by:

Was hoping this would produce at least a bit of heat. Installed and then tested it while temp outside was 30F. First it drew more than 15amps, had to start the generator in order to produce enough amps to keep it running. After 20 minutes no real heat, so kinda sad. However customer service here is great.
Wish it was better, but hay not always what you expect, but I tried.

Still working fine, not as much heat as I was hoping however it helps in not having to use propane as much.

I know that the heat strip gives off low level heat. Is it not working at all? When did it stop working for you?

by:

Very fast delivery time. Excellent packaging to help prevent damage during shipment. Haven't installed parts yet but everything looks good.

I received the heater unit & promptly installed it. Being a competent mechanical type, I found the installation to be straightforward but a bit painful. On the left side (w/elect terminals) was a slot in the protective metal screening for the purpose of using a screwdriver to install the 2 short screws. Difficulty came when trying to weave the screwdriver through terminal ends and wires while trying to guide the screw into the bracket slots.
On the opposite end, there were no electrical terminals, but neither was there a slot in the screening. This required a small diameter Phillips screwdriver to get through the metal screening. In my case it took way longer than one would anticipate to install 4 small screws. It was all good in the end & I am pleased with the product, how it is integrated into the a/c unit and how it functions.
It may be worth mentioning in the video & written instruction, that the HEAT position on the air distribution box also provides power to the fan for heat circulation. I did not see or hear that mentioned anywhere and caused me to question it. By trial, I discovered it's functionality.

Can this be installed as a standalone unit?

Heather A.

7/15/2022

I do have an option for you but the heat strip cannot be used as a standalone heater for your trailer. It will need to be plugged into an Advent AC unit (ACM135, ACM135B, ACM150, or ACM150B). If you have one of those units the heat strip will allow you to set your air distribution box to only blow warm air. It sounds like you need a standalone trailer heater like part # CAM57341.

Advent ac unit works extremely well. I have two that are installed in vintage camping trailers as replacements for the 1970s OEM units. They installed easily & function flawlessly. I would not hesitate to buy yet another if the occassion arises.

Unit arrived, albeit late. Fortunately it’s not a big deal because I don’t need this particular part of my order for a few more months (it’s still the peak of summer for me).

by:

Works great... Keeps the house nice and warm. We used it all winter and it was perfect.

by:

Seems to be a pretty well made part. Blows warm air. But as far as shipping they are very slow. Warehouse is slow about putting your part out in a timely manner. Ordered on Friday morning got put out to ship Monday evening.

by:

Very easy to install, just plug and play. I wish it were a bit quieter but all on all an improvement over the ac unit it replaced.

by:

fit perfect

by:

Works great in an enclosed area like an RV riser area. Pretty easy to install with only a couple of tools.

by:

Great service

by:

Good product for keeping the chill off in the mornings.

by:

Doesn't work very well. Very disappoint ed

by:

A very good air conditioner with a very poor design and quality With a few modifications of my own it works very good now

by:

I installed the heat strip in my Advent air conditioner and it worked great, instructions were very good and it worked well, nice and warm. We had just installed the ac unit in a pop up camper and it was great, does not drip water on roof. Very happy. Steve

I can't rate this until I receive my air box to check it out.

I have looked into your order and it looks like the airbox should have arrived to you by now. I would love to hear your updated feedback on that as well as this heat strip.

by:

I purchased this heat strip for the Advent AC135 rv rooftop air conditioner. The ACHD is the heat strip that is recommended for my unit but has been discontinued. The electrical specs for the ACHD and the ACMHD are the same, as is the width and height. I was able to match the curbside holes on the evaporator with the heat strip flange precisely. I mounted the heat strip and used the roadside heat-strip flange as a guide to drill two holes for a solid mount. Pretty simple after I clipped away a small portion of the cage that surrounds the heat strip. Plugged it in and, voila, heat. Works great. Sorry, no pics. And I don’t want to remove the shroud again if I don’t have to, as putting that back on was the hardest part of the job.

by:

Added as a second unit to a 33' Crossroads. Works great. Easy straight forward install. Using the ACRG 15 air distribution box with thermostat. All the wires are labeled from the factory so installation was a snap. Added the ACMHD heat strip also but it's 85 degrees and a little hard to test that out just yet. The crew at etrailer were great at helping me get everything picked out that I needed. Shipping was fast. If there was such a thing as a 10 star rating, they deserve it

Hello Tim. We can definitely set you up with a complete AC system with an Advent low profile unit. We currently do not offer these parts as a package, but you can purchase all of the exact same components separately. To answer your question, yes, the same air handler will work with the low-profile unit. Hey Steven, so we have the Dometic Penguin Ii High Capacity 15k btu RV AC unit part # DMC33ZR which has a heat pump built into it like you are wanting. You will also need the air box part # DMC43ZR. If you were looking for something a little easier on the ole wallet we have the Advent Air low profile unit part # ADV79FR as well. To add a heat strip you'd need the # ACMHD. You'll also need the Air Distribution Box w/ Built-In Thermostat for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners # ACDB.

This has everything you need, including a digital thermostat, for a complete replacement. The system has a 13,500 Btu capacity and comes with a 2-year warranty. If you would like an electric heat pump the # ACMHD can be added on. You also have the option of adding the start capacitor # ACMSCKIT for a power boost if enough power isn't available from your generator or campsite.

Advent Air was unable to give me a running wattage but it's typically half of the starting wattage so you'd be looking at roughly 1,400 watts. As for the Heat Strip Electric # ACMHD, he didn't have a definitive answer but stated it was roughly 6-12 watts.

  • Recommended Replacement For A 13.5K GE RV AC Unit
We recommend the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM135 to replace the GE 13.5K RV AC unit. The advent unit has the same 13.5K BTU rating. You will also need a new distribution box and/or thermostat. You can use # ACDB for manual control or the # ACRG15 which comes with a wall mounted thermostat. Advent sells their start capacitor # ACMSCKIT separately, and we do recommend picking up one of those as well. You also have the option of adding a heat strip # ACMHD.

  • How To Make An Advent Air Heat Strip Work With An Advent Unit In A Dometic System
If your Dometic controller doesn't have a port for the Advent Air Heat Strip # ACMHD to plug into then the only way to make it work would be to swap out the air distribution box/controller with either the manual control # ACDB or wall control # ACRG15. This would give you a compatible controller for the heat strip to plug into and would essentially fully swap you over from a Dometic system to an Advent Air system.

We can definitely help set you up. For a 14' x 8' enclosed trailer, I believe a 13,500 BTU unit would be sufficient. I recommend the Advent Air # ACM135. Advent makes a solid AC unit, which will fit perfectly in the 14" hatch on the roof. Keep in mind the roof does need to be between 2-1/2" and 5" thick in order to install this unit.
