Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Americana Trailer Wheel Lug Nut

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Americana half inch by 20 size stainless steel capped trailer wheel lug nut for a quantity of one. Now this will let you secure a wheel to your trailer using this lug nut. This will resist rust and corrosion, has a stainless steel capped construction. It is designed to fit half inch size wheel studs with 20 threads per inch. And the hex head of the socket size that you would use on this is three quarters of an inch.

Overall length on this, if we put a ruler on it from top to bottom is right at one and a half inches and it includes one lug nut. Now I do wanna mention something on this is that sometimes these lug nuts that use the cap design like this, they could cause problems because what happens is when you're removing these with your lug wrench, that cap sometimes breaks loose and makes it very hard to remove the lug nut that's underneath it from the wheel stud. Now this is from personal experience. I've worked in the tire wheel industry for a while and I've seen that happen too much. What I would highly recommend for you to do is to use a lug nut that is an all one piece construction so you wouldn't have that problem.

And I wanted to show you and recommend, we do sell another lug nut. This is a part number AM90049. You can see the whole thing is all one piece. It's the same size, half inch by 20 size, has the three quarter inch hex head, same size, and it will work much better than this cap design lug nut. Now if you did want a stainless steel version of the one piece design, we do also sell that separately.

The only difference is the hex head size does go a little bit larger, it's a 13/16 size, but besides that it'll be an all one piece construction, and that's part number KALN1375S. But that's gonna do it for the review on this Americana half inch by 20 stainless steel capped trailer wheel lug nut for a quantity of one.

Arrived a day early and a perfect match to the two OEM lug nuts that I messed up during removal. My guess is that the RV factory used an impact wrench to install them.

Thank you for the refund!

  • Are the Americana Trailer Wheel Lug Nuts AM26NR Susceptible to Swelling
More than likely the stock lug nuts on your 2020 Pinnacle 32RLTS are a 2-piece design. The 2-piece design is susceptible to swelling when moisture infiltrates the space between the cap and the actual steel lug nut securing the wheel to the vehicle. The Americana Trailer Wheel Lug Nut # AM26NR is also a 2-piece design and would also be subject to the same swelling problems. To avoid this problem, you would want to go with a single piece construction like the CE Smith Trailer Wheel Lug...

If you were using flat lug nuts then those are not going to work as well. You could also use the longer lug nut # 12CLN-L if you want because it does have the correct threads and 60 degree cone.
