Video Transcript for Review of the Safety Chains for Ranch Hitch 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number AM3109. These are the safety chains for a Ranch Hitch 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapters. Safety chains are going to be a necessary precaution when you are towing. They're going to attach to your Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapter when installed on a 5th-Wheel trailer. They're going to work with both the straight and offset models. It's going to include everything you see on the table, so you're going to get the safety chain, and the mounting brackets, the hooks, all the necessary hardware for a complete installation. The product's made in the U.S.A.

The chain and the hooks are going to be made from a steel construction. They're going to have a nice chromate finish to resist rust and corrosion. It's going to be a Grade 70 chain that has a link diameter of 5/16 of an inch. They're going to have the forged steel hooks. These have the nice safety latch design to it, so it's going to prevent accidental disconnecting. When I took a measurement from the center of the bolt, I stretched the chain out from the center of the bolt to the center of the hook area.

That gave us a measurement of about 36 inches long, that's going to be the same on either side. These chains have been tested, and they meet the standards for up to 18,000 pounds when it comes to the capacity. The setup, simply clamps around the Ranch Hitch Coupler, and it's going to provide two chains that have the hooks at the ends. That simply attaches to the safety chain loops in the bed of your truck. To show you, on each side we're going to have the same components. You're going to have your chain, you're going to have your bolt, lock nut, and then your spacers.

You need to make sure that it goes through the link, the spacer goes on each side of that link in the chain, and then you tighten the lock nut all the way down. You're adapter portion is going to fit right inside that clamp. Very simple installation, and it's ready to go right out of the box. That's going to do it for today's review of part number AM3109. This is the safety chain kit for the Ranch Hitch 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter from Andersen. .

AFter a year of solid use, these chains still look great and the hooks function perfectly. Surprisingly, I have received compliments from other trailer owners on the solid construction and the great look of these chains.

by:

The collar is slightly loose after I tightened the bolts all the way. The spacers need a 1/16 of an inch shaved off on all of them then it would be tight. I will grind a little off two of the spacers and that should do the trick. That being said, these are a great product for the price and complement the ranch hand 8" offset hitch that I installed. Glad I purchased this!

Safety chains that adapt to what I needed to satisfy DOT

by:

Just arrived today. Will attach soon and see how well.it works.

by:

There seems to be some question on the legal requirement for safety chains on a gooseneck adapted 5th wheel. However, I decided there was no question when it comes to safety. These chains were exactly what I needed and e-trailer's response time was exceptional.

Safety chains are something you hope you never need, but provide a level of comfort knowing you have them, just in case. Ive never questioned the wisdom of installing these chains and am quite happy with them.

by:

I am using this on my 5th wheel gooseneck adapter. Then I had to buy D rings to hook it up to my truck. For SAFETY I would have thought that the chains would have come with the gooseneck adapter.

I just wanted to say that I looked at our receipts to see what it was that we bought from you. Yes those chains worked great and I left them on the goose neck of the RV for whoever buys it.

by:

Just ordered them Sunday night and they were delivered on Wednesday. Cant beat that !!!

by:

These are heavy duty safety chains and coupler and mounted up with ease. Look great and it is nice to have that extra comfort of safety. Super fast shipping.
Thanks!!!

by:

If anyone is looking for a set of safety chains for a goose neck trailer I would highly recommend these, very heavy duty and looks like they will last forever very well made and are heavy duty. This company that I purchased this item from as far as I'm concerned is a great company, I just ordered a under the bed B/W 30,000 lb hitch and needed safety chains to go with the Rancher adapter kit I have. These ladies that I worked with in getting this thing put together are awesome and very knowledgeable. Will order form them again, excellent company to deal with, Highly recommended.

by:

We got the safety chains and are very satisfied. Your customer service is great and shipping times are really fast!!!!

They work great!! Very heavy duty. I don’t worry about losing my trailer anymore.

by:

Thanks for the fast service. Items are just like described.

by:

Ordered with Ranch Hitch Adapter; simple to install and a great added measure of security/safety. Very heavy duty parts throughout, no corners cut on design or manufacturing. Chains are HD as well and are long enough to hang on back of fifth wheel hitch housing to keep them out of the way when not in use.

by:

Gooseneck safety chain setI was very pleased with the service offered by etrailer. Their e-catalogue give me all the information I needed to make a decision about the product I was looking for. I received the safety chain set very quickly. I was amazed at the quality. This set is made specifically for my hitch so I'm not concerned about fit. The finish was excellent. I would like to see etrailer carry the ubolt set that these chains hook to which is installed in the bed of the truck. Not all hitches come with the ubolt set.

Well done etrailer.

by:

If you need safety chains for a Ranch Hitch 5th wheel/gooseneck adapter...get'em from George at etrailer.com. Very beefy and fit perfect..five minute install...mailed to our door in 4 days!!!!

by:

Even though e trailer was out of stock they were able complete and deliver my order on the original schedule delivery date...awesome job!
Thanks, now I can pull my fifth wheel safely with the new safety chains.

by:

product was as expected however, the boxes were not in the best of shape. One was for a work order and the other was for stock. Product good! Box, not so nice.

by:

Heavy duty, easy to install, no doubt it will hold the truck and trailer together.

Great product, great price!

by:

Great quality. Easy installation. One thing to note, if I remember correctly,(mine was installed several mo the ago) the directions and packing list both indicate a pin was sent. The collar has two stub ends that take place of said pin. Still a great design. Just worth mentioning.

by:

I was pleased the safety chains arrived so quickly. I am a 73 year old farm lady and had no problem installing it on my RV by myself. Would have been easier if I had another hand but no real problem.

by:

Never used it. It did not fit on my gooseneck adapter

  • 5TH Wheel Hitch/Adapter For CM Truck Beds Flatbed On a 2016 Ram 3500
For your 2016 Ram 3500 with the CM Flat Bed I recommend using the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100. This will attach to the 5th wheel pin box and convert it to be used with your gooseneck ball. You will not need an offset to make jackknife turns, as you have 54" between your headache rack and the gooseneck ball. You will need the Safety Chains # AM3109 since you will be using a ball connection, and the Slide Hammer # AM3103 will aid in the installation...

  • Can a Sidewinder Pin Box Be Used w/ a B&W Companion Flat Bed Hitch
No, with your set-up you can not use a rotating pin box (Sidewinder). The Replacement Base for B&W Companion Flatbed 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVB3055 you have still uses the turnover ball for its connection point. The reason you can not use a rotating pin box with the turn over Companion is that the way it attaches using the turnover ball can not handle the torque that is placed on the hitch by using a rotating pin box. You would not be able to use a rotating pin box with any hitch that...

You have a couple options for adapters though some trailer manufacturers will void a warranty if an adapter is used. You will need to contact the trailer manufacturer to determine if the trailer warranty will be voided if an adapter is used. One option is the Demco Recon, part # DM8550045. It installs onto the gooseneck ball in your truck and provides a fifth wheel hitch. You can also add safety chains, # RM3230, to this set up. There is also the type of adapter that attaches to the...

  • Fifth Wheel Trailer Adapter to Tow the Trailer with a Gooseneck Hitch in a 2014 Ram Short Bed
We don't carry a Reese adapter in that style but I do have a solution for you. Since your 2014 Ram is a short bed I suggest the Andersen # AM3139 adapter because it has an offset. The offset will help with clearance when executing sharp turns. If you also need the safety chains to work with the adapter use # AM3109.

The Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100 measures 4-1/2 inches in diameter on the outside and the Safety Chains # AM3109 fit around the adapter, as you can see in the accompanying photo. So as long as your gooseneck coupler has a 4-1/2 inch outer tube the chains will fit around it. If you have a different outer diameter let me know and I'll see what is best option.

  • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch be Installed on a 2006 GMC Sierra with an Underbed Gooseneck Hitch
It is highly unlikely that you will be able to install a 5th wheel trailer hitch in your 2006 GMC Sierra as long as the gooseneck hitch is installed. The problem is that a 5th wheel hitch installation kit will require the same or some of the same mounting locations as the gooseneck hitch so they would interfere with each other. What you can do is use an adapter to fit on the 5th wheel trailer to use with the gooseneck hitch. There are a couple of different options. If you have a Lippert...

As I can not say for certain why there is not a Reese Goose Box that fits the Leland 7920 on your 2003 Jayco Quest, it is most likely due to no one making 5th wheel campers with a Leland 7920 pin box anymore. Since Lippert has taken over the majority of production of 5th wheel trailer frames you do not see as much variety of pin boxes as there used to be. You can use the Convert-A-Ball adapter # CAB-C5G with your flat bed and gooseneck hitch that is recessed below that plate. The 16 inch square opening is more than enough for the adapter. The adapter has a pin weight capacity of 4,000 pounds and towing capacity of 20,000 pounds. If you need more capacity I recommend the Ranch Hitch # AM3100 and safety chains # AM3109. It has a pin weight capacity of 6,000 pounds and gross trailer weight capacity of 24,000 pounds.
