Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch. This is a heavy-duty hitch head that's gonna pair with custom mounting kit bars that will allow you to create a gooseneck trailer hitch. This will provide a standard 2 5/16 inch steel gooseneck ball and your spring loaded safety chain hookup, so that you can hook up and tow your gooseneck trailer. This is made here in the USA of a powder coated steel construction, so it is going to be very sturdy and corrosion resistant. It's going to have a gross towing weight capacity of 30,000 pounds and a vertical load limit of 7,500 pounds.
And really, the standout feature of this is that when you're not towing, you can simply remove the ball from the hitch, flip it upside down, and drop it back into the hitch for storage. That way, you don't have to worry about losing your ball, and it's going to give you complete truck bed access, so when you're not towing, if you want to haul stuff in the back of your truck, in your truck bed, this will give you full access for that. This does have a single-piece, machined ball socket that's gonna provide rugged durability for you. If I take the ball out there and switch to my overhead angle, you can see that inside here, we are going to have a 5/8 inch thick spring-loaded steel locking pin that's gonna go all the way through the ball to secure it in place. To operate that, you'll just use the handle that's here on the side, and this is going to be positioned in the rear driver's side wheel well, so very easy to access, you just pull that handle out, and it will lock open, so you can put your ball in place.
Now, unlike your typical gooseneck balls, which have round bases, this does have a square base, so it is going to prevent the ball from turning in the hitch during your hookup, and so, it's going to be very easy to get the pin put in place. As you can see, we do have the pinholes on all four sides, so it doesn't matter which way you have it oriented, that pin's gonna go through, so it's gonna be very simple to get that hooked up. This does also have the corners only fit, so if you look from the top again here, you can see that our corners are going to allow any dirt and grime to fall through there, and then it's open on the bottom, so it's not going to build up that cause any seizure of the ball, 'cause it seize up in there. So not a whole lot of dirt's gonna be able to get through there, 'cause it is connected on those sides, but those corners are going to allow for the dirt to fall through, so it's not building up in there. Now, this is going to be very simple to get installed.
Again, it is going to require a custom mounting kit that's going to be designed for your vehicle to use your vehicle's already existing holes, so you won't have to do any welding or drilling into your vehicle's frame. You will have to cut a four inch diameter hole in your bed for the ball to stick out, you're also gonna have to drill a couple holes for the safety chain loops to come through, but pretty straightforward installation with the custom kit that is sold separately. We do have lots of options here at etrailer.com to meet all sorts of different models and year mix and that sort of thing. But this does come with a limited lifetime warranty, so if you we're to have any issues with it, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com. But overall, I think this is gonna be a great way to tow your gooseneck trailer and also have that adjustability, so that you've got a clean look on your truck and be able to haul whatever you like in your truck bed.
So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

Pair this center section with a custom mounting kit (sold separately) to get a sturdy hitch for towing your gooseneck trailer. Store the removable ball upside down in the hitch when you aren't towing to get total bed access. Thanks for fast shipping.
Everything worked out great the only problem is the handle to pull the pin out is not long enough to go outside the wheel well so I had to add three more inches onto it other than that great product thank you very much
I purchased this to pull a 25Ton GN trailer with heavy equipment and so far it works great! Good price point and reliable product. I would highly recommend this product and trailer. Thank you!
Installation was straight forward and it's well built. Works smoothly. etrailer was awesome as usual with shipping and service.
However.... ;) on the BWGNRK1400 for '73-'87 GM trucks, the predrilled holes in the hitch for the safety chain u-bolts are 6-1/4" each way from center of the ball. This places the matching holes you have to drill in the truck bed on the sloped edge of the ribs, not in the center of the valley as intended. The instructions read as if the holes are not pre-drilled but they are, so I contacted B&W and asked if I can drill new holes at 8-3/4" each way of the ball so that they center in the next valley and they said no, that will void the warranty. So I had to do some bodywork, cut, weld and grind to scallop the ribs around the anchors to they won't always be sticking up (defeating the flat floor intent of this hitch design). I saw guy on [online] noted this was an issue on his squarebody bed as well.
B&W needs to look at this dimension for future installations to help out the next guy.
Great hitch! I'm a pretty avid do it yourselfer so I did the install myself and it was relatively simple. The directions that came with the hitch had all the information I needed. It works well with my trailer and the quality seems to be pretty good. It's pretty low profile while you're not using it as well. Overall very happy with it. A couple of install notes for squarebody Chevy, GMC trucks which is what I installed mine on: You will need to lift the bed off the frame just enough to slide the hitch between the bed floor and the top of the frame rails so if your truck is rusty like mine, you may want to have new bed mount hardware on hand before you start in case you have to cut the old bolts to get them out. Also, the safety chain loops land right on the ridges in the bed floor so they don't recess completely flush even when they're not in use but so far it hasn't been a problem for me. I saw that mentioned in some other reviews on here so I already knew before I bought the hitch.
This was the second Goose-neck mid bed ball to frame assembly I purchased from etrailer....this was for a V-8 Tundra; the first was for a V-12 dodge 2500; Both were absolutely spot on in terms of Hardware provided; Instructions; and actual holes already in the respective frames to line up to the hitch frame mounting steel; beyond that I got digital brake/level controllers from these guys for the Tundra and it was mint....cannot speak more highly of etrailer to get the stuff you need to haul....its obvious these guys actually get the kit first then see if it fits...on an actual truck...then order and distribute it when it does...10 out of 10 for etrailer
Overall this Installation went as I anticipated, 4-5 hours; it's not for an unprepared amateur. I strongly recommend watching the Installation Video, but more importantly, disconnecting the wiring harness (from both sides, there's 3 connectors) that cross over the rear cross member above the Differential. Disconnecting the rear exhaust was a MUST DO for us (my son helped me) as is a second person. Patience was our friend during this entire Installation for both of us. The brake line that crosses over to the passenger side was of concern to me, and got in the way as well; in the end it is below this entire installation. However there is a Mount Block on the driverside that creates a problemwith getting one bolt into place; a "Fishing Spring" (spring wire that wraps around the threads with long tail to fish/thread/pull thru the hole) would have helped to get this into place. (SEE PICTURE) Once in place the head is able to be held with a narrow spanked wrench while tightening. The rear center bolt is a HUGE challenge to reach once everything is in place and you're torquing things to spec.I had to purchase a "3/4" Crowsfoot" to get this and some of the others because of things blocking access with a socket (not talked about in the video or Installation Video). Once everything is in place and Reconnecting electrical plugs we found that there was enough gap/spacebehind the Kit Rear Cross Bar, over the vehicle rear cross member, to run the driver side electrical. Pay attention to have the "male" plug facing inboard to give you enough slack to reach the passenger side plug. A couple of zip-ties were needed to keep this inplace. See picture for how I routed this and the vent tube to avoid the heatshield.
I've got a 26 foot Keystone Cougar 5th wheel RV Trailer that I be using this, along with an Andersen 3217 hitch. With this B&W Hitch I don't have the 5th wheel Rails across the bed full-time anymore of my 2022 Ram 1500DT 4x4.
Great product with good instructions. I was able to install myself. For the lifting of the center piece. I used a ratchet strap and something going across the top of the bed to hold it in place while I was under the truck. Just had it long enough to go through the hole and catch the pin with the hook. I then went into the bed and ratched it up a couple times to fit it in the hole. Worked great as an alternative for extra hands.
After having this hitch for a year I can’t say I’m too impressed. They claim the powdercoat on it is durable, but after only a year there’s already spots of rust. The pictures I’ve included are only showing a few spots I’ve noticed. I painted the pieces that sit against my frame with frame paint in hopes that doesn’t rust either. But the outside facing pieces, I haven’t touched. My truck is stored in the winter and the hitch hasn’t even been used yet since purchase. I’m sure it performs well since my last gooseneck hitch was B&W. But as for durability, I don’t think they do as well anymore. It shouldn’t be this rusty only after a year, being stored, not seeing salt or even being used.
I was converting a fixed/welded gooseneck ball on a CM flatbed to a removable one so I could also use a B&W Companion Flatbed Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch adapter. Although it wasn’t easy to find someone to cutout the old ball and install the new turnover ball, it was done expertly and the hitch works perfectly! Very easy to operate from the wheel well and turn over for a flat area for cargo. Always had a turnover ball in the past and highly recommend this one for a conversion.
The hitch is beefy and seem to be very strong. My guess is the truck frame will give before the hitch. Great quality. I very happy! I'm an above average backyard mechanic and found the installation doable, but a little of a challenge. Differently need a help. My wife was a big help. I use a 2X4 across my bed and a ratchet strap to lift and hold the center section in to position. I also had to reposition my exhaust pipe where it goes over the differential to get some clearance. Also, I had to drill out one of the square holes in the tailpipe L bracket to receive the factory bolt.
Top quality , heavily and sturdy parts. Easy to follow instructions. Best things....made in USA and good price!!!
Not my first B&W....and won't be my last either. Installation photos to follow.
Great instructions.
Grab a buddy to help install a few items as it may take two sets of hands.
Make sure and tighten the plate to the cross members before tightening to the frame.
High quality just as expected. Been flawless in its use thus far. B&W has and always will be my go to for trailer hitches.
It’s been about a year now of use with my gooseneck trailers. What a great improvement from using the hitch under the bumper. Still solid and functions flawlessly. Make sure to lube the pin that locks the ball, if grime gets in there it gums it up and doesn’t release it completely.
This was my first order I placed with et etrailer. If one work could say it I guess it would perfect! I ordered on a Tuesday arrived on Thursday. I Placed the order got conformation and a name and contact to call if I had any issues, once it arrived I got another email letting me know if had been delivered. The installation video was perfect made it’s easy to install just followed the steps. When I need any trailer related items I will use them. As far as the B&W hitch i put it in a 2017 Ram 2500 with Ram boxes. The fit and quality of the hitch and design is what I have come to expect from B&W. I got this hitch to pull a gooseneck horse trailer. If your wondering if it will work with Ram Boxes it will.
Between the videos and the instructions it was very easy to follow. If you’re like me and don’t want to cut your fender liners I simply removed the front bed bolts and jacked one side up to slide in the mounting rails. The only fender I had to cut was the drivers side to allow for the latch pin lever. I really like just how “flush” the hitch really is once you turn over the ball. Overall very impressed with the hitch so far and have already recommended the hitch to other family members and friends.
4.9 out of 5 stars Etrailer provides an installation video from 2017 which, given my “new” F350 in 2024 is, in fact, a 2017 year, one would presume to be appropriate - but, in fact, B&W has tweaked its product just a bit so there were a few, small headscratchers. Most important of these were drop-in (well, hammer in) threaded busing inserts in place of the previous threading in some of the brackets.
But overall, the surprises all were positive ones. Most importantly, against my dread, I did NOT have to drop my DEF tank, even though my truck has the very long 48-gallon diesel tank. Nor did I have to extract any heat shield…or even lower the exhaust. This is my second B&W Turnover install - the prior was in 2008 - and this went even more smoothly than the prior time.
Lastly, a point of uniqueness: Etrailer’s free shipping applies only for the lower 48. Shipping this ~150-lb product to Alaska would have set me back another $243. But, in that we needed to fly to Seattle, I had the hitch sent to WA and - to the eye-raises of the AK Air employees - managed to check four small but mighty heavy boxes of just under 50 lbs. each and pay no surcharges other than Washington State sales tax. A win!
Fantastic product!! Hardest part is drilling the holes in the frame for safety chain loops. Remove the spare tire for ease of access and have several swivels and extensions for mounting.
Hitch is excellent quality, and made very strong. My only complaint is installation instructions are poor. I went online and watched YouTube installation video which helped somewhat. The step by step instructions do not have clearly marked pictures showing each step, and proper orientation on truck. Perhaps because my truck is older (2002), there was absolutely no way the cross braces could be installed from underneath. A simple solution was to loosen the 8 bed bolts allowing the bed to be raised 1/2 inch after which the braces slid right in from the left side wheel well.
Product arrived in a timely manner, although it took awhile I was able to install it completely by myself. It was sturdy and looked good, fit well and went together nicely. I used it the next day to bring home a trailer a friend had gifted me. The turnover feature is really great, when not used the hitch ball is turned over, I put the truck bedliner back in and you do not even know it is there.
As always, this B&W product works very well. Using this with my B&W fifth wheel companion to pull my fifth wheel RV. Works excellent
The product is great. However the shipment process and commitment to the customer leaves allot to be desired. They used UPS to deliver the hitch but only one of two boxes was delivered (no mounting hardware or brackets. This makes the rest of the product useless. When I contacted them the response was basically requesting a UPS investigation and indicating I should file a police report to show I didn't steal the box. They said I could order and pay for a while new set with additional 6 days delivery all at my expense.
They did not and to this day have not provided me with the UPS tracking data. It makes me feel like I have been left out in the cold to solve the issue of their inability to manage their shipping process very disappointed in the lack of ownership of their shipping and delivery process. So great end product if you are will to pay twice for it to receive it.
Installation was very easy. Everything lined up perfectly. I did not need the inner brackets. I have a 2019 Ford f250 platinum. Absolutely amazing. Another great B and W hitch!!
Condition: Badly Dinged
Notes: Item has cosmetic scratches/dings present.
