Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Blue Ox Second Vehicle breakaway Kit from Blue Ox Patriot Supplemental Braking Systems. That's gonna be part number BRK2505.So, here's what our breakaway kit looks like once we have it installed. This is gonna look just like the one that comes with your Blue Ox Portable Braking system, and this would be an ideal solution, that way we can use that portability and move into a second vehicle. Or, if your breakaway switch and cable is damaged, this is gonna be a good option to replace those as well. The nice thing about the Blue Ox Portable Braking systems is that they are portable. But, if you want to tow a second vehicle behind your motor home, we're gonna have to mount the breakaway switch on that one as well. So, here's what our second vehicle kit's gonna come with. It's gonna come with the breakaway switch itself, the lanyard, as well as the cable to get everything hooked up.
That way, when we move our Patriot or Patriot II into our second vehicle, all we gotta do is plug in the cable like we normally would.Just like the breakaway switch that comes with your portable braking system, we're gonna have one end that's gonna plug into the breakaway switch itself, and then we'll have about 10 feet of cable that we can route all the way to the inside, and then the other end's gonna plug directly into the braking system. Now, you're gonna need to find a spot on the front of your vehicle to mount the breakaway switch. Your baseplate may have a provision already in there to mount the switch up. Ours didn't, so we ended up using this bracket, and cutting it in half because of the limited space. We're gonna be mounting our switch to this bracket. Now, keep in mind that our breakaway kit is not coming with hardware, so you may want to pick up some 1/4" bolts, washers, and lock nuts. We'll just pass our bolt through the bracket, and then slide our switch around the bolt. We're gonna put a washer on, and then finally secure it with a lock nut. Then you want to make sure you secure the hardware down.
Then the switch is not gonna move around too much on ya.Coming out of the back of our switch we'll have two wires coming to this plug. We can grab the cable, we can plug it in. You want to make sure you get it plugged in all the way. I always like to wrap the connection with electrical tape. That's not only gonna help keep it stay together, but it's also gonna keep any kind of moisture and debris from getting inside. With our connection made here, we're gonna take the other end of our cable, and we're gonna route it up into the engine bay, so we can go through the firewall, into the inside of the car. Now, once you have your cable routed to the engine bay, you're gonna have to fine and entry point to reach the inside of the car.
Typically you'll have a grommet along the firewall somewhere, that we can poke a hole through, and feed our cable in. In our application, we do have a grommet, right against the firewall, that'll lead us right in, usually you'll find that they have some wires going through it as well. So, we're gonna poke a hole through that rubber grommet. Just want to be extra careful, and not damage any of the wires that are already in there. If you did poke a hole through the grommet, it's always a good idea to come back with some silicone and seal it back up.Now we have our cable inside. All we have to do is put our portable braking system in, and plug it up.
Whenever we're not using it, we can tuck it underneath the floor mat, or under the carpet, so it's out of the way. That'll finish up your look at the Blue Ox Second Vehicle breakaway kit for Blue Ox Patriot Supplemental Braking Systems. Part number BRK2505.

If you want to transfer your Blue Ox Patriot, Patriot II, or Patriot 3 tow bar braking system between towed vehicles, you will need this breakaway switch kit for your second vehicle. This is a great product and is everything I expected
Delivered as shown in picture. Exactly what I expected.
Works as advertised
Installed this unit along with Baseplate BX2258 onto Honda CRV. Quality parts and cable length was perfect, leaving apx. 12 inches to spare [for wire routing differences] and service loop to reduce/eliminate any strain on wires when installed.
Note: Baseplate also came with nice stepped (z-angle?) that enabled very easy mounting of the break-away switch. Plan on having rubber grommets and some RTV to seal hole thru firewall needed to route wires from engine compartment into cab area, which took an unplanned trip to local parts store.
Blue Ox Base Plate and Road Master wiring products. This is the second set of such equipment I have purchased from etrailer. Their information is up to date and accurate. All of the products and components install just as advertised. Its a real pleasure doing business with etrailer!
Everything worked as advertised
With most states requiring supplement barking systems for tow vehicles greater than 3,000 lbs, this breakaway switch provides an extra layer of safety when dingy towing. This is the second switch that we have used, the first is still installed in our Silverado and this one will go in our Grand Cherokee. We have thankfully not have to experience it effectiveness on the road but in preflight chucks it has worked flawlessly.
Thanks Roger, always great service!
Found the part I needed quickly on the web page and ordered/ received quickly. I really like the Email correspondence that etrailer provides to keep me posted on my order. Very customer friendly company.
Great stuff nice to be able to get ahold of somebody that knows what I need and sells a good product thank you
Bought this for a second vehicle that I tow. That way there is no switching wiring between cars. Easy to install and etrailer shows you how with videos.
I bought this wiring harness to set up the lights for towing a 2014 Honda CRV behind our motorhome. It was advertised as a custom wiring harness that did not require cutting the existing wiring, and that describes the product exactly. It took me less than an hour to complete the installation and it has worked perfectly.
Product is working GREAT. Thanks etrail er
A good price. Customer service was great. As it was back ordered and they kept me informed.
Just finished installing the product. Good quality material and i believe it will hold up well. As it is a breakaway switch I am hopeful I will never have to find out if it works.
Great service
