Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: Blue Ox 7-Wire to 4-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord

Today we're going to show you the Blue Ox seven wire to four wire coiled electrical cord, part number BX88254. We have it together here and you can see that our coils are tied together, and it's just about a foot long. This will actually expand or stretch out to about seven feet. Now we'll take a look at its seven-pole end here. This is designed to work with your RV. The other end is designed to plug into your car that you're towing behind the RV.

It also comes with a provided four-pole connector as well. Now this does not come with a bracket to hold it in place, or the hardware, so you need to supply that on your own. Now all the wires and cables are encased in a silicone-based material. That will finish it for the Blue Box seven to four-way coiled electrical cord, part number BX88254. .

Got exactly what i ordered and without delays. Will buy from etrailer again

by:

I have ordered products in the past and have always received good quality merchandise in a timely manner.

by:

It has held up very well so far. My 2 previous Blue Ox coiled electrical cords started stretching out, discoloring and deteriorating after about 2 years of use each time.
Hopefully they have improved so I can give them another excellent review in about another year.

by:

This cord is a replacement for the same model. The previous cord became brittle after constant exposure to the weather. Only the exterior sheathing was damaged with no issues with the conductors inside. The replacement is stored when not in use and remains in like new condition. The original serves as a backup.

by:

We've owned a few of these, and they've been fine. Our hook-up requires that the cord be pulled pretty tight, and we use small bungees at both ends to keep it plugged in when traveling, and to keep it from dragging down the road if it should become detached. We've had it happen, and the cord was ruined.
We would like to find a longer one but have not seen such an item for sale. A wire came loose a few months back, in the 'tow car' end. A simple fix.
These are the best cords we've found.

The Blue Ox BX88254 stretches to 7 feet long, but Hopkins offers a longer version, part # HM47043 which stretches to 8 feet long.

eTrailer is a great company to do business with. Their internet site os well designed, fast and accurate with great follow-up and attention to the customer. I have completed business with them for over a few years now and never had a disappointment.
Recommend them all the time.

Using this product for over a year now and It is working great... as it should. I STILL like doing business with eTrailer.

by:

We were having a hard time finding a replacement cord to connect our motor home to our Jeep. Jeep dealer was not real helpful. I came across this site, they had what I needed shipped it promptly. It is great quality and works well. Even better than the previous one I had which did come from the Jeep dealer.

Great! No problems.

by:

I am very happy with my order from etrailer. I received the Blue Ox set up for my Jeep Wrangler and all were installed without a problem. Since, I have referred my friends to etrailer.

by:

This was just what I was looking for and has worked great since I bought it a year. Really like the length for my motorhome-car connection; easy to install each time I get ready to hit the road. Thought about purchasing a second one to have on hand in case of an emergency.

This product is still working like it did when purchased. It shows no signs of wear...only road dirt and grime. Glad I purchased it.

by:

allows me to quickly and easily go from the 7 wire plug on my motorhome to the 4 wire end on the light wiring harness I installed on my tow car. Good sturdy component.

by:

etrailer had what I was looking for. Ordering was easy and owns arrived a promised. I'll be back to buy more.

by:

Fits perfectly would’ve loved it if some kind of wiring diagram for a 4pin round trailer plug was included

by:

All;

These folks are EXCELLENT!!!
Great prices (better than other web stores in many cases) and their Customer Service is OUTSTANDING, seriously. My order was not huge but they were in constant contact with me, even on a Sunday!, letting me know where things stood and even following up after delivery to make sure I was happy... Where do you get that kind of service today?? I highly recommend etrailer.com. Great folks!

by:

Don’t blame etrailer, but this Blue Ox cord has no instructions for wiring the receptacle. Other than that, the product is great!!!

by:

Ordergin this electical connector is the first step in preparing my car for towing. It was the right plug for the existing socket that is already on my RV.

by:

I ordered on Sunday and received on Thursday! Your tracking was excellent and your customer service is top notch! Thank you so much Etrailer for being there! I will highly recommend you!

by:

I purchased this item as a replacement and it works very well. I prefer the coiled cord over what I had before. I would recommend this item.

by:

Would have given it 4 stars had it came with wiring instructions for the connector

by:

We were glad to be able to find this item. First we drove out to Wentzville thinking the store would be open. Sure hope it opens back up in the future.
You have many items needed by motor home owners and we intend to tell our friends to remember about your services.

by:

Excellent electrical cord

by:

Just what we wanted. Connector arrived promptly in original packaging. Easy to order. Very friendly folks to do business with...

by:

Standard electrical cable from motorhome to Jeep for towing.

by:

Easy online ordering. Shipping great. Time will tell about the quality. Connector seems a bit on the fragile side.

by:

Received my order on the day promised in good condition in sealed packaging. Planning my next road trip and I am sure they will work perfectly.

  • How Many Wires Are in the Blue Ox 7-Wire to 4-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord
The Blue Ox 7-Wire to 4-Wire part # BX88254 only contains a bundle of four wires. Instead, I recommend the Blue Ox 7-Wire to 6-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord part # BX88206 which contains a bundle of six wires. We don't offer a coiled cord with all seven but you could simply exclude the reverse/backup light wire as this isn't used most of the time anyway.

For the 2009 Lincoln MKX, you would need the Roadmaster # 4408-1 base plate kit. The # 4408-5 base plates fit 2011-2013 MKX models. The structure under the vehicle of the 2009 model is different enough from the 2011-2013 models that the parts are not interchangeable. According to Remco Towing, the 2009 MKX is capable of being flat towed if the speed is kept at 65 mph or lower, and the engine is started as often as possible to prevent the battery from being discharged. • Can 4-Pole Round Connector Be Installed on Hopkins Flat Towing Wiring Harness on 2015 Wrangler
That's correct. The Blue Ox # BX88254 Coiled Electrical Cord does included a 4-pole round connector. You can simply cut off the 4-pole flat on the Hopkins wiring harness and replace it with the 4-pole round connector. If you use the Blue Ox # BX1126 base plate, it actually has a mount for the connector built onto it, as shown in the provided photo. I'll link you to some FAQ articles you might find helpful, as well as to videos showing the Hopkins wiring harness and the base plate kit...

I'd recommend cutting off the 4-pole flat provided by the Hopkins # HM56302 flat towing wiring harness and installing the 4 pole round connector provided with the 7-foot long Blue Ox 7-way to 4-pole round cord, part # BX88254. I've linked you to some of our flat towing FAQ articles.

  • Needed Tow Bar and Accessories to Flat Tow 2007 Jeep Liberty
In order to flat tow your Liberty, you will need to install a base plate kit. I would recommend the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit, part # RM-521423-4. A base plate offers a safe and secure attachment point to the vehicle. This particular Roadmaster kit offers easily-removable drawbars. One they are removed, the bracketry is pretty much invisible. I'd recommend the Blue Ox # BX3728 base plates and the # BX7380 Alpha tow bar, which includes safety cables. For a lighting solution, I'd recommend the # RM-155 bulb and socket taillight wiring kit. However, this is a universal bulb and socket kit that works via plugs and sockets mounted inside the tail lights of your vehicle. You can use the LED kit if your 2009 Subaru Forester does not have LED tail lights and if each tail light housing has enough room for an extra bulb and socket.
