Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Blue Ox 4-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord with 4-Way, Round Plugs

Today, we're going to be reviewing part number BX8861. This is the Blue Ox 4-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord with 4-Way Round Plugs. This is going to allow you to quickly and easily connect your towed vehicle to your RV using the durable insulated electrical cable. The 4-wire extension cord can be used for multiple towing applications. It's going to be ideal for running power from your RV to your towed vehicle. It's also going to include two 4-way round sockets that mount to the RV and one mounts to the towed vehicle for quick, easy hook up. All you have to do is connect your wires to the back of the socket and mount one of this to your RV and the other one to your towed vehicle.

The mount holes on this unit are going to be separated by 1 7/8, 7 inch, center around center, and they're going to measure a 1/4 inch by 3 16/17 inch. It's going to feature a spring-loaded lid. That way it's going to remain closed, we're not connected. That's designed to help keep out dirt and moisture and protect your connection points. It's also going to feature a finger grip at the bottom of the lid to easily open up the lid. The coil cable can expand to 7 feet, yet still contracts to prevent dragging and tangling, also making it really easy for a nice convenient storage. It's going to feature silicon and cased wire connections that are going to prevent corrosion.

This unit is going to be constructed at 16-gauge wire, and then the ground wire is going to be 12-gauge. Here on the connectors, they got easy to grip, or easy grip finger tabs as well, that way you can disconnect them really easily from the socket connector. That's going to do it for our review of part number BX8861. This is the Blue Ox 4-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord. .

We originally bought this product over two years ago from etrailer and we were happy with its performance. We did some annual maintenance on the tow bar so we decided to buy a new coil. We bought the second coil via [online retailer] (same manufacturer) and within a few days of using it we noticed it did not perform the same as our original purchase. We sent it back and reordered it from etrailer and we are again very happy with it.

I put this base plate on with the assistance of my wife very easy to install. Do recommend the video to install

Still working and looks great after thousands of miles of use.

This is a great kit to add rear lights to a Ford Focus because you have to remove the negative battery cable for towing. There is more then enough wire to complete the job of wiring the lights from the rear of the car to the front for a permanent installation.

by:

Replacement electrical cord to replace our existing wiring between car and motorhome that has seen all kinds of extreme weather during the last 10+ years. The outer jacket started to crack, but still works. Makes connection to our Brake Master towing system quick and easy.

by:

Not what i thought. Ends on the blue ox are a lot smaller than the ones on my truck and rv. So they will not fit without changing both plug ends on the truck and rv. That is what i was trying to avoid. Sorry I will have to return.

by:

As always etrailer delivered exactly what I wanted. Thanks

by:

  • Blue Ox Tow Bar Base Plates and Wiring for 2011 Honda Element
If your Element is not an SC model, you would use the BX2232 base plate kit. Neither Blue Ox nor Roadmaster offer a base plate kit for the 2011 Honda Element SC. The Blue Ox Alpha, part # BX7380 would be a great choice for you. The Alpha includes safety cables, is self aligning and will easily fold up against the rear of the motor home when not in use. To wire your vehicle so its tail lights work in tandem with the RV, you would need a Coiled Electrical Cord and Plugs, part # BX8861 and...

  • Base Plates and Flat Towing Equipment for 2009 Lincoln MKX
For the 2009 Lincoln MKX, you would need the Roadmaster # 4408-1 base plate kit. The # 4408-5 base plates fit 2011-2013 MKX models. The structure under the vehicle of the 2009 model is different enough from the 2011-2013 models that the parts are not interchangeable. According to Remco Towing, the 2009 MKX is capable of being flat towed if the speed is kept at 65 mph or lower, and the engine is started as often as possible to prevent the battery from being discharged. I would urge you...

  • Tow Bar Wiring Solution for Tow Vehicle with 4-Way Flat Connector at Rear of it
So what you could do is use the coiled tow bar wiring kit from Blue Ox part # BX8861 at the rear of the fifth wheel that has a 4-way flat connector as this comes with a 4-way round connector that can replace it as well as another one for the front of your tow vehicle and coiled wiring to connect across the tow bar. Then for an easier to install invisible supplemental braking system the Demco SBS DUO part # SM99251 would work great. I don't know the year of your Chevy Spark for determining...

  • Can Blue Ox 4-Wire Electrical Cord Plug be Grounded to Frame
Yes, you're on the money; if you are not using the plug of the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56009 you can ground the plug of the Blue Ox 4-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord with 4-Way, Round Plugs # BX8861 and be fine. I have added links to video reviews for you as well.

  • Needed Tow Bar and Accessories to Flat Tow 2007 Jeep Liberty
In order to flat tow your Liberty, you will need to install a base plate kit. I would recommend the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit, part # RM-521423-4. A base plate offers a safe and secure attachment point to the vehicle. This particular Roadmaster kit offers easily-removable drawbars. One they are removed, the bracketry is pretty much invisible. If you are mechanically inclined, you might be able to handle the installation, but it is fairly involved. Typically, an RV would have a receiver...

  • Tow Bar Wiring Recommendation for a 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle
I have exactly what you need. What you are describing is referred to as tow bar wiring. I did some checking and it looks like Blue Ox has confirmed the Blue Ox Tail Light Wiring Kit # BX8869 as a compatible wiring system for your 2004 VW New Beetle. To complete the wiring and allow you to connect to your tow vehicle you would also want the # BX8861. I attached a couple FAQs to the right with more info on tow bar wiring.

  • Parts Needed for Flat Towing My 2007 PT Cruiser Behind a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban
Yes, you can use the Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar, item # 63180, to tow your 2007 PT Cruiser Turbo convertible. Keep in mind that this tow bar is rated for towing speeds of 45 miles per hour or less. A better tow bar option would be the Blue Ox Adventurer Tow Bar, # BX7322 , which is designed for towing long distances and more frequently. You will need some other items along with the tow bar to complete your towing setup. First, a base plate kit for the PT Cruiser is needed. The Blue...

You are correct that the Blue Ox 4-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord with 4-Way, Round Plugs # BX8861 will use screw terminals to attach your wiring. I went out to that warehouse and took a picture of the connectors so you could see the attachment points.

  • Compatibility of RM-521559-4 with Roadmaster Falcon Tow Bar on 2009 Honda CR-V
The discontinued Roadmaster # 5250 tow bar is compatible with EZ4 style base plates like the # RM-521559-4. In addition to the tow bar and base plates, you will also need safety cables, a lighting solution and a supplemental braking system (required by law in most states). If you prefer a coiled safety cable, the # RM-643 is a good choice. For a straight cable, I would recommend # RM-645. If you do not already have your CR-V wired, the Roadmaster Bulb and Socket Kit, part # RM-155 is...

To safely tow your truck, you'll need a base plate, tow bar, safety cables, a wiring solution to ensure the truck taillights work in conjunction with the coach and a supplemental braking system. I'd recommend the Blue Ox # BX2163 base plate kit and the Blue Ox Avail tow bar, part # BX7420. The Avail is rated for vehicles weighing up to 10,000 lbs, which should be fine for your F350. To wire the taillights of the truck, I'd recommend a bulb and socket kit like part # BX8869. You'll also...

If your towed vehicle has a 4-pole connector for its wheels-down lighting kit you can install a socket to avoid having the wire hanging down when you're not towing it. Blue Ox kit # BX8861 includes two 4-pole round sockets (one for the car and one for the RV) as well as a coiled 4-pole cord. We actually don't carry any flat tow wiring for your 2008 Honda Element that plugs directly into the vehicle's wiring. We used to but it's been discontinued. What is in the instructions for the base plates is just the connector that would be at the front of the vehicle and for that you can use # DM9523004. The other problem with the tow bar is that it is only rated for a maximum speed of 45 miles per hour. We need to get you a proper set up. • What is the Coiled and Straightened Length of the Blue Ox Coiled Electrical Cord # BX8861
I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Blue Ox 4-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord with 4-Way, Round Plugs, # BX8861, to take some measurements for you. When coiled up, from end to end it measures about 38 inches long. When stretched out to the maximum it measures 176 inches. However, ideally you would keep the cable only stretched to around 7 feet to avoid the harness coming unplug or damaged. The harness will coil back up after being stretched.

  • Can Trailer Wiring 118420 Be Used to Tow a 2010 Honda Fit and if Not What Parts are Needed
You are correct, the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, item # 118420, is designed to tow a trailer with your Fit, not to tow the Fit behind a motorhome. The # 118420 harness will not work for towing the Fit, so you will need a different wiring harness altogether. There are several options for tow bar wiring for the 2010 Honda Fit.
