Video Transcript for Review of Blue Ox Coiled 6-Wire Electrical Cord - BX8862

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Blue Ox six wire coiled electrical cord. This is a six wire extension cord that can be used for multiple towing applications, but most commonly, it is gonna be used for running power from your RV to your towed vehicle. This does include two six-way round female plugs that will mount onto your RV and your towed vehicle for a quick, easy hookup. You can see these do have these spring-closed lids that are gonna help protect your connections when you're not hooked up. And then when you do plug this in, it's going to have a locking feature on it.

So as you lower this lid, it's going to lock onto that cable, so it's gonna help prevent accidental disconnects. And so you'll lift that up, and then pull out the cable to disconnect. This cable is a coiled design, so it is going to keep your cable up off the ground, prevent it from dragging and tangling, but when you need the overall length, it will stretch out to over seven feet in length, and so it is going do a good job of providing that connection for you, even if you're taking turns and that sort of thing, it's going to move, stay up off the ground, but still give you that length that you need. This does have silicone-encased wire connections that are going to help prevent any corrosion, so it is gonna hold up well for you and last you a nice long time. And it is made here in the USA, so you can trust it's made to the high quality standards that we've come to know and trust for products that are made here in the US.

So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

  • What Pin Does the 12V Power Wire Get Connected to on the Blue Ox # BX8862
If you are asking which pin you will wire the 12V power source to on wiring like the Blue Ox 6-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord with 6-Way, Round Plugs # BX8862 then yes, the 12V power will be wired to the center pin. The 12V power pin can be used to maintain the battery on your towed vehicle. If you have a different wiring setup other than the part that I referenced then I will need to know exactly what your setup is so that I can give you an accurate answer. I have attached a picture that...

  • Will the Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Lighting Kit Work for Flat Towing a 2005 Chevy Colorado
Yes, the Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Tail Light Wiring Kit, # BX8869, is confirmed to fit in the taillight housing on your 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. Along with the bulb and socket kit you will need an electrical cord and connectors to go from the towed vehicle to the motorhome. Blue Ox recommends the 4-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord with 4-Way connectors, # BX8861 if your motorhome needs a 4-Way round connector, and the 6-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord with 6-Way round connectors, # BX8862 if your...

  • Recommended Way To Mount Blue Ox 6 Wire Round Cord Onto Vehicle's Bumper Or Hitch
It sounds like you are looking for hardware to mount the Blue Ox 6-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord with 6-Way, Round Plugs # BX8862 onto your vehicle. You could go to your local hardware store to find screws/bolts that will hold it to your bumper or receiver. Or a better route would be to use Curt Mounting Bracket for 4-, 5-, or 6-Pole Round Trailer Connector # C92CR which is a bracket and hardware set to install a round 6 wire plug on a hitch receiver, frame, or bumper of a vehicle.

  • Tow Bar Wiring/Lighting for a 2015 Chevy Colorado
For the 2015 Chevy Colorado you can use the Blue Ox bulb and socket kit # BX8869. I have linked a video showing an example installation. I also recommend coiled extension kit # BX8862. Another is to use a magnetic kit such as # RM-2120 since they are not vehicle specific. This is a low cost option that you could use until such a time that other kits become available.

  • Replacement 7-Way Trailer Connector On 2012 Ford Escape
The replacement 7-way connector I recommend for your 2012 Escape is part # A10-7072VP. This connector just plugs into the OEM plug at the rear of your Escape. This 7-way has the spring-loaded dust cover to help protect the connector from the elements. When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.

There are 5 items needed when flat-towing your Mini. You will need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting for the towed vehicle, and a supplemental brake system. If your Mini is not the John Cooper model the base plates I recommend are part # BX1307. The tow bar I recommend is the Blue Ox Alpha, part # BX7380. The safety cables are included with the tow bar. For tow bar wiring I recommend part # BX8869. To connect the wiring to the motorhome we offer a couple options. You...

  • Parts Needed to Wire a 2007 Nissan Frontier with a 6-Way at Front to Flat Tow with RV with 7-Way
The first thing you are going to need is a lighting kit for the 2007 Nissan Frontier to flat tow it. You can use diode kit # 154-792-118158. You could then replace the 4-Way end that will be at the front of the vehicle with # RM-910030-7 for a 6-Way if needed. The wires from the diode kit have the following functions: White is ground, Brown is running lights, yellow is left turn/brake lights, and green is right turn, brake lights. We do have a set of base plates for the 2004 Saturn Vue Redline but the Roadmaster base plates will not fit a 2004 model. You can use the Blue Ox base plates, # BX3321. In order to use your Falcon tow bar you will have to use adapter # RM-031 that adapts the Roadmaster tow bar for use with the Blue Ox base plates. If you need safety cables, I recommend the straight cables, # RM-646, because the Falcon all terrain tow bar has cable guides on each arm. For lighting, you can use the Blue...

  • How to Wire Up a Tow Vehicle that has a Separate 6-Way to Tow a Vehicle with a 4-Way Flat
The easiest way to do what you need is to convert the signal on your RV's connector to a combined circuit and then install a 4-way on your RV like part # PK11404 in place of the 6-way. For that you would want to start with a signal converter like part # RM-732. You will need to wire up the RV trailer wiring just like the label of the converter recommends. You'll notice that the running lights aren't mentioned on the label, that's because it bypasses the converter and runs straight to the...

For tow bar wiring to activate the tail lights on your 2015 Ford Edge Titanium when flat towing it behind a motor home you have a few options. But since you are using a supplemental braking system I recommend using 6 diodes. First you would need the 4 diode kit, # RM-154, and then 2 additional diodes, # RM-792. You would then wire it up like the picture I have included. This will only work if the motor home also has turn signals that are on a different bulb than the brake lights. If the...

  • Why Are There No All-In-One Flat Towing Kits
The reason that no one offers an all-in-one flat towing kit is that vehicles differ so much in their dimensions, weight and in the available access to the frame for securing the base plates that it would be just about impossible to design one kit that would work on most vehicles. Although we cannot offer you a one-box kit we can still help you select each of the required items to safely and legally flat tow your Jeep Wrangler. • Which Tow Bar Wiring Diode Kit is Used to Flat Tow a 2003 Chevy Tracker Behind a Motor Home
The diode kit recommended for your 2003 Chevy Tracker is actually the 6-diode kit # 154-792-118158. Those 2 additional diodes will allow the turn signals and brake lights to be separate on the Tracker when it is being towed. When using a 4-diode kit such as # 38955 the red brake lights will function as both brake lights and turn signals which is perfectly legal if that is what you are worried about.
