Video Transcript for Breaking Down the Brophy Basic Turnbuckles w/ Hardware for Camper Tie-Downs

Today we'll be reviewing and showing you how the Brophy Stake Pocket Sliding Camper Tie Downs, part number TDSF, will fit on most trucks. These adjustable stake pocket tie downs will mount permanently in the stake tube of your truck for a tie down that is always ready to use. They have three removable spacer tabs that allow a custom fit for most pickups and a tab lock that anchors the tie down to the truck rail to prevent lifting and twisting. We'll begin our review by showing you how to install it onto our truck. To do this we'll slide the stake of the tie down into the stake pocket of our truck making sure that the black tab is facing the center of the truck bed. The spacer bars may need to be pried off if necessary to fit the size stake pocket of your truck.

Now with the tie down seated firmly in the pocket, we'll drill two 7/32-inch holes through the pocket about four inches from the top. Now for todays demonstration we will not be drilling and permanently securing this stake, but just showing you how to drill the holes and where. We'll then use the two lag bolts to thread into the holes that we just drilled putting pressure onto the stake. We'll now drill an 11/32-inch hole through the anchor tab and install the hex bolt. Now that we have our hole drilled through the bracket, we can move to the underside of the vehicle where you can see plastic paneling near the wheel well.

Removing this will allow you to open up a space for you to reach your hand up to thread on our washer and nut. You may need an extra set of hands when doing this part of the installation. Now with our camper tie down secured to our bed rail of our truck, we'll demonstrate how to tie your camper down with the tie down hardware package, part number TDHP, and we'll do this by taking the turn buckle, setting the chain on the hook on one end of the turn buckle, and then taking one of the s-hooks, putting the small end of the s-hook into the chain. We'll then take the other end of the s-hook and starting from the outside of the tie down which we'll slip into the hole, and with the camper positioned on to the tie downs you can simply turn the cam buckles which can either loosen or tighten to give you the best fit to your camper. Quick Tech Tip: Over-tightening the turn buckles may cause unnecessary stress to the camper and your truck.

That will complete todays review of the Brophy Stake Pocket Sliding Camper Tie Downs, part number TDSF.

Seems to be good quality. Got these to replace my camper's rachet straps since they're less bulky, stronger, and allow me to tighten the camper down to my truck bed's D-rings better than the rachet straps (since with my particular truck and camper it was difficult to get the access and leverage to truly tighten them as much I wanted, and as a result the camper would drift during travel)

by:

Cammy is the best. She helped me find what I needed for my 2000 Ford F250 Super Duty, and she made sure it arrived on the date I needed it. That doesn't happen too often. Very happy.

by:

Works great for holding down my camper on my short bed truck.

by:

These ties downs solved an immediate problem when I bought my new truck bed camper. However, the trim piece on my 2017 Silverado truck bed couldn't withstand the pressure of the camper. The camper was stable but the tie downs moved when tightened. Then of course I forgot to untie and even though I caught it immediately, the trim on the truckbed lifted. I since have read that these ties downs are better for older model trucks. Thus I can say they worked as a immediate solution but it would be a safer system to get the tie downs that connect to the bottom of the truck.

by:

Threes have stripped on 2 of them. Rest of the kit is still working great

by:

Easy install, quality hardware, great fit for my camper/ 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab truck combo. I would recommend this company and it’s quality products . Safety is a big concern and these tie downs are as safe as can be.

by:

Haven't used it yet. Quality looks good.

by:

Got here early in the a.m. and on time before heading on a 2 hours trip. Easy install. I hoped the chains would be longer, I had to use 2 longer chains because of the position of the eye bolts on the camper.

The tie-down hardware package worked great. Nice and flexible, for matching the camper's layout. I might replace the S-hooks with threaded chain repair links, but for now, teh kit was complete and worked fine.

The Tie-down brackets and tie-down hardware kit are working fine. They are a good, inexpensive solution for securing my camper to my pick-up.I appreciate the follow-up. You folks are great to work with.

I paid extra money to have these turnbuckles delivered to me so I could go on a camping trip with my family. They came late and we had to cancel our camping trip. I tried calling customer service twice and no one answered.

by:

Brophy tie downs were just what I needed. Shipment was delayed twice once it left your facility.

by:

Have not actually used them yet, but they are sturdy and well positioned, and the installation was fairly easy, although I had to grind a very small (less than 1/8') off the bottom of the passenger side plate that goes inside the frame in order to get both bolts in. I don't have a camper yet, but may get the rear tie-downs, depending on size and weight of what I get. Will use bumper brackets for now. I did not think the bed mount type of tie-down would be enough for anything but a very light camper, and the through the bed into the frame type didn't appeal to me much. Not having to drill any holes was a plus, although I would have done it if necessary to get the strength I wanted. Although these tie-downs mount in a somewhat unusual way, I think they will be very functional, strong, and convenient.

  • Camper Tie Downs For a 2021 Ford F-350
The Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs # HSWB do not have a weight rating since they do not support the camper's weight. The truck bed and frame handle the actual camper load with the tie downs there to secure the camper in your truck bed. • Will Brophy Clamp-On Tie-Downs Accommodate A 2,400lb Truck Bed Camper
While there isn't a specific weight capacity for the Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs # HSAB there is a 3,000lb capacity for the turnbuckles # TDHP that go along with these tie-downs. To ensure fitment of these tie-downs your truck will need to meet the following criteria: External bed rail width cannot exceed 5-1/2" Requires at least 2" of space beneath lip of bed rail Not compatible with drop-in bed liners, plastic bed rails, double-walled beds, or side-step beds

  • Recommended Camper Tie-Downs For A 2023 Ford F-350 With Deployable Running Boards
Unfortunately the deployable running boards are going to prevent the installation of TorkLift camper tie-downs so the only other option would be Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs # HSAB. These tie-downs clamp to the inner lip of the bedrails and angle down along the body of the bed. Because of this you will want to do a bit of measuring beforehand to ensure that the tie-down won't touch the bed and scratch your paint. • Will The Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs HSBP Fit My 2016 Ram 3500 Long Bed?
Yes, the Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs # HSBP will be a good fit for your 2016 Ram 3500. These will fit virtually any truck as long as the bed rail is less that 5-1/2" wide, and you have at least 2" of space beneath lip of bed rail. So unless your Ram has the Rambox storage system these will fit nicely. We also have the turnbuckles available if you are in need. Brophy also makes the basic turnbuckles # TDHP, which will work nicely for your Arctic Fox 990.

  • Can The Replacement Front Turnbuckle # LC182901 Be Trimmed Shorter?
Yes, the threaded rod of the Replacement Front Turnbuckle # LC182901 can be removed and trimmed down. But depending on our exact length needed this may not help you since the main body of the unit is nearly 12" long you may not be able to get it short enough for your application. A better option is likely the Brophy Basic Turnbuckles # TDHP. These turnbuckles are expandable from 7-5/8" to 12". The kit also includes short chains that will allow for up to 19-3/4" of length.
