Video Transcript for Mount: Bulldog Winch Power Shut-Off Switch w/ Key on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD we'll be installing a pair of Bulldog winch power shut off switches with keys, part number BDW20039. With our keys in, our vehicle will start. When we want to disconnect our batteries, so when we're towing it behind our RV, we don't have to worry about the batteries being run down with the key left in the ignition to have the steering wheel unlocked. We just turn our key, remove it and our batteries are shut off. These are a perfect application for when you want to flat tow your 2016 Chevy Silverado. First thing we need to do is disconnect our negative battery terminals on both of our batteries here. With our battery cable disconnected her, I'll go ahead and set it aside and go disconnect the other battery.

I'll set that one aside as well. With our battery disconnect here, with the key in it, it's in the connected position or the on position. We twist it like this and remove the key. It is now in the open or disconnected position. We want to make sure our battery connects are like that before we begin our installation.

Takes these nuts off on the back, take our cable here, reinstall the nut. Take another cable, do the same thing to the other terminal and install our nut. Now we can grab a socket and fully tighten these down. Give you some nice good snug connection, making sure our cables don't touch each other, otherwise that would defeat the purpose. Take ourselves some electrical tape and we'll funny cover our terminal here so that they do not make connection with any metal and potentially cause a short. We want to make sure we go extra thick on this just in case they rub against something and they poke a hole in the tape. Now that we've done this, and we have it nice and wrapped up nice and tight, we can go ahead and do the exact same process to the other switch that we're using.

Here's our finished product for the other battery. Now we can work on getting them set up on our terminals. Take our battery terminal here that we're using, we're using one end of our cable on it, and we'll secure the wing nut on it. We'll take our negative battery cable here, and we'll feed it up here where we're going to work on it. We'll remove the ten millimeter nut that's on it. Then with the nut removed, we'll tap out our little stud here.

We'll take our other end of our cable that we put on our cut off switch here, insert it into the middle, reinstall our bolt and our nut and we can snug it up. Now with our nut all the way tight on our cable here we will wrap it in electrical tape, and again, we want to wrap this up fairly tight and fairly thick with electrical tape just in case it might rub up against something, we'll have that extra layer of protection in place. With our battery cable all securely wrapped up in electrical tape, we can route our terminal here underneath this bar and go over to our battery, make our connection on it. Have to wiggle it down a little bit. Now we'll use our wrench here and we'll tighten up our terminal on the battery. Now we'll take our zip tie here and we'll secure a switch here to this bar, making sure it comes in contact with this fabric cover here just in case it was ever to rub through our super thick electrical tape wrapping, just so we have an added security so it doesn't ground out. We'll cut off our excess of our zip tie here, and then we'll go do the same thing on the other side. Now that everything's installed, we have no electrical current in our vehicle at all. We'll insert our key, give it a twist, go over to the other battery and do the same thing. With both our batteries connected we should be able to start our vehicle now. That completes our installation of the Bull Dog winch power shut off switches with keys, part number BDW20039 on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD.

  • Troubleshooting 12V Lights Working on Cargo Trailer But Exhaust Vent Not Working
Thanks for reaching out, Teresa! There are a few things to double check when it comes to the power that's going to your exhaust fan, but it's good to know that the 12V light is receiving power because now we know the problem is on your trailer side of things. The first thing I recommend looking for is a power shutoff switch like the Bulldog Winch # BDW20039. Not every trailer will have this, but it's not uncommon for the lights to always receive power (since they have a lower draw) and...
