The employees I dealt with at etrailer are stellar… Ashley in sales, Pete in technical support, Bill in shipping were wonderful to deal with… my package was damaged by the post office.. and a part was missing…Bill immediately got my part on the way with ups.. The only thing that should be changed is this package should be shipped to the customer inside an additional heavier box .. great company to work with..

by:

well, I got it installed. the motor doesn't sound like it would lift 7,000 pounds. It does the trailer empty, but you can hear it struggle. I was disappointed in the switch box as it has already broke, it has one tab left holding the switch box in place. That happened after about a week and a half after install. I did my installation based off seeing someone else talking about not being able to put it on the outside of the jack. I got this because of my back, it does make it nice to hook up and unload. I will probably get another one later, but going to have to figure something out with the switch box if they keep breaking the tabs that hold it.

by:

Bad investment factory drill holes are to close to fitting causing to run hole in line and leak, having to repair for customer at my cost

by:

The Power drive kit was shipped within a few hours and was exactly as described. I installed it on a gooseneck horse trailer. As the spare tire was on the side where the motor is shown, I installed it on the other side. It said that the drive gear in the jack should be on the opposite side to the motor, so I moved the gear to the other side. The original gears were used as the ones provided were not suitable for the jack. As an upgrade I installed a thin oilite shim between the gear and the inside of the jack housing. Having a lathe is beneficial!
Now of course the hex drive is on the crank side of the unit so I made an adaptor so that the crank can be used on the hexed end of the drive shaft in case of a battery failure.
The wiring was very well done and I only had to provide battery power and ground to the terminal box provided. I have a neighbour that does a lot of G M work so he had the correct clips for mounting the wire harnesses. you should perhaps look at puting a few of these in the kit. I used 5 of them to secure the harness.

by:

This unit performs great. I installed one on a non-bulldog jack as well, just had to slightly enlarge the pin hole and it worked great!

by:

Had to cut the front corner of the trailer to allow for the installation of the jack. Built a battery box to hold a deep cycle marine battery, the jacks power supply is directly for battery, the battery is also charged by the truck . installation was more complex due to the fact that we had to fabricate much more then normal. The jack seem to be just what the doctor ordered.

by:

Product seems to work well, but it is very slow. It is mounted on a 34' load max trailer which is very heavy to begin with. Also if the battery ever dies and you have to crank it by hand, good luck cause between the power it take to move the jacks and the extra power it takes to overcome the brake on the electric motor you will never do it. Overall the product seems good and easy to install.

Had it for a year and still glad I have it, but still very slow, installed a 925cca battery to see if it would help but still slow and very slow in the cold weather. I wedge my leatherman under the switchbox cover and go do something else while it raises.

by:

The electric jack works very well for me on my 14500 gvw 4 horse trailer. Installation took awhile to complete due to the welding & jack disassembly. It was well worth the time & money spent.

The electric motor for the bulldog jack works great, all the time. Plenty of power to lift the 14,000 lb gooseneck horse trailer. It is surprizingly quiet and the control switch is very heavy duty. The battery and charger installation has been the reoccurring problem.

by:

We have added this power motor to several of our trailer jacks at Superior Water Light & Power and Minnesota Power. Easy to install and very reliable. Takes the work out of raising a trailer.

Chris C.

We have several in our fleet and they have been holding up great!

by:

Installation was a bit tedious because of the trailer construction, but we made the modifications and the bulldog works great!!
Saves a ton of wear and tear on my back.

It’s working great and has been trouble free!

by:

I installed the power drive kit about 1 year ago to a vac trailer that was very difficult to crank because of it's location and the weight on the hitch. The power drive moves slower that I thought, but it is strong, reliable, and has made hooking and unhooking a breeze! etrailer sent the product to my door as they said they would.

by:

Mounted very easy, slide spring back, drop pin, remove old shaft, slide unit shaft through gear, put pin in, weld stop on jack, hook up preass. wire harness, all marked correct, what made this very nice I got to use my old hand crank, just cut off the amt. shaft shown above, weld your adp. to old crank and replace crank, only thing wires on unit a little short need to be maybe 6in longer, also used old gears, pushed button jack lifted 3horse LQ trailer faster than by hand, very satisfied .

by:

The Bulldog Power Drive Kit came quickly (3 days). I had my local trailer dealer install it for me. They said there were no problems with the installation. It may not be as fast as a hydraulic lift but it is half the price and it sure beats cranking. Some people complained about the noise, I found it to be very quiet. Liked that I have the option of using the hand crank if I don't have a power source. Had it powered with a marine battery in my gooseneck because I didn't want it draining my truck battery and incase I'm not hooked up to the truck.

by:

This thing was nightmare to install. I figure it would be. Little difficult but not as bad as it was. I was putting mine on an older bulldog jack which did not have the spring holding the pin in the gears. It took several hours to just get the shaft out of the jack. I almost cutoff the jack and welded on a new one. Once I finally got it installed the motor is so slow it's not even funny. And because I had too install mine opposite of the way it was intended the cover won't go on so now I need to have a cover made for it. At least it was cheaper than a hydraulic unit.

by:

I have an older Bulldog jack, it seems. The pin holding the bevel gear was very difficult to remove. It was also an odd diameter -.280" which could not be inserted into the hole in the new shaft. I replaced it with a 1/4" roll pin.
Installation of the drive was straightforward and easy. It would have been better to have some installation instructions included. The video on your web site provided all the help needed, though.
The drive is SLOW, but immensely better than how slow I was becoming when hand-cranking.
Thanks for the fine product.

by:

We installed this on our toy hauler using our existing manual jacks. Install was pretty easy other than you need to weld coupling for tandem usage. Not as strong as I had hoped. Definately slow but beats hand cranking. Have to let it rest twice before it will raise enough to get it on or off the ball and that is with the trailer empty. Don't think it would lift it with the 2800 lb race car inside. Kind of disappointed.

by:

We have bought 2 Bulldog Powered-Drive Kits for single speed jacks from etrailer.com. The first one included the jack also. It was a dream to install and HEAVEN to use on our 4 horse Kingston trailer. The second electric jack is going on our Kingston 2 horse trailer as we fell in in love with the first one!!!

by:

Jack works great but needed to ad self tapping screws and C clamps for electrical cords ....I had to go and buy both and also batterie cables. Thanks

by:

The product arrived on time, and exactly as described. I had one question I posed to customer service, after hours, and was given a response before business opened the following day.

This was my first etrailer.com purchase and it was very pleasant...Will certainly recommend.

Fyi, I purchased the single speed bulldog landing gear electric conversion kit.

by:

I love the electric jack kit. It was easy to install, wire and operate.
No more manual cranking!!

Thanks,

Clint

by:

Looks to be exactly what I ordered! I ordered this item because as I age I don’t have the same energy. This bulldog product will take the effort out of connecting and disconnecting my gooseneck trailer!

by:

Solidly built and works great. Installation instructions good except for power hook up.

by:

This product worked very good. Only one problem was the wiring box and the wires coming from the motor. You have to mount the box to close to the motor. Did not give you much option to the placement. Over all very good product??

by:

This electric motor for my jack is exactly as it was discribed on the website. It is a huge time saver! I needed this in a rush. Etrailer got it to me right on time. I always buy my parts from etrailer because they have the best selection, best prices and most importantly, the best customer service of any trailer parts company I've dealt with.

by:

Nice product. Easy to install. Works great. We have alot of heavy trailers that get used every day, these electric jacks make life a lot easier on our shoulders.

  • What Kit to Use for Upgrading Bulldog Square Landing Gear Jacks on Gooseneck Trailer
Thank you for the photo of the landing gear on your gooseneck trailer! From what I can see it looks like you have the Bulldog Square Jack # BD182815 installed on both sides. If this is the case then you'll need the Bulldog Powered-Drive Kit # BD1824200100 to upgrade them to electronically controlled instead of manually controlled. You'll want to verify this is the gooseneck landing gear kit you have prior to purchasing though.

I checked with Bulldog and here is why they include the extra gears with the # BD1824200100: If your date code is before E06 (May 2006), then you will also need to change out the bevel gear (included) to accommodate the larger dowel pin (included). The date code is stamped on the outer tube. The letter of the date code corresponds to the month of manufacture (A thru N; A means January) and the numbers correspond to the year (i.e. 06 means 2006).
