Hey everyone, how's it going Today, we're going to be going over and showing you how to install the Fifth Wheel Rail Sound Dampeners. So, this is a rather simple product. It's not necessarily something that's going to be required for your setup. But if you towed many trailers before, had a couple of different fifth wheel hitches, you're probably aware of that some of them have some movement within the base rails of our truck. Now, there's a lot of different variances that have this. It comes down to which fifth wheel rails we have, which fifth wheel hitch we have, the tolerance, tolerance stacking of the two or improper installation of our fifth wheel rails.
There's a lot of different reasons and factors that can come into play when we have movement of the fifth wheel hitch in our rails. Now that's certainly not something that we want to hear each time we get in, couple our trailer, we come to a stop at a stoplight hearing that fifth wheel hitch rock back and forth on our rails. Therefore, installing the sound dampeners here we're going to help improve that overall ride and cut down on the sound of our hitch moving inside the rails. So these are what our dampeners look like. It's a pretty simple design.
We have four of them, one for each attachment point on our fifth wheel legs. These are made of rubber, so they're nice and durable, but they also have some give to them, which is what allows them to have that dampening property. So they are rectangular shape. And we also have that rectangular cutout here, which is sort of going to mimic the shape of the attachment to our fifth wheel rails. So basically how these dampeners work is, this is going to be a rubber pad that installs between the bottom of the fifth wheel hitch and the top of the rail.
And it's going to provide sort of a cushion or a barrier between the two so we don't have that metal on metal contact. Now in order to install these, it's very easy. You're going to want to do one side at a time. We're going to pull out the two front pins. So we have one here and then we have one we need to pull out over here.
Now, once we have the front two pins out, we're going to lift up on our fifth wheel hitch assembly here. You are going to line up the rectangular slot there with our dampener. You may need to readjust the dampener when we have the fifth wheel hitch down. But that's pretty much how they're going to install and may or may not sit flat depending on how well they are aligned. You can sort of play with them a little bit to get them perfectly centered on that rectangular hole. But once we have one side in, we'll go ahead and repeat that same process on the other side. And then we'll just simply reinstall our pins. Now with both of our rear pins out, you can just come back here pretty much just do the same thing. And that's going to do it today for our look and installation of the fifth wheel rail sound dampeners..

It works great.
Worked as expected. I like the flexibility being able to use it on the Ford or Chevy.
Box was destroyed and missing parts, called and notified E Trailer told them I needed the missing parts by Friday so I could pull my 5th wheel. Operator acting as though she couldn’t care less and told me she would just wait on an email
Although they do the job in removing slack and dampening any sound from the slack, they simply do not last. The rubber starts to tear very quickly. My current ones Tire after just 3 camping trips. I typically go through st least a couple sets of these per camping season.
Great service and fast shipping. I have a home office and was working on a Sunday afternoon. I received a call from George to inform me of the status of my order. I thought I was the only one working on Sunday lol. I was sure wrong. I am very impressed with their customer service. I will browse their site and will buy from them.
I bought these for a reese hitch, they do not actually fit the mount for my 5th wheel, i actually installed 2 pads on each corner and it seems to have worked.
I had ordered 2 sets so I had them on hand. we will see how this goes once we start traveling soon
these actually do work as they do dampen the sound by cushioning between the rails and the 5th wheel hitch. I am satisfied with this purchase.
Fast order processing and fast shipment. Product works good but would be better if the material was more impact resistant.
Parts are exactly what I needed and fit perfectly.
These neoprene "spacers" are each 1/10th of an inch thick, are very flexible, and are designed to keep the Curt hitch quiet and to stop the Curt slider rails from contacting the bed. Instructions refer to these as "spacers" and that they may not work with all mounting applications.
I bought these for my Reese/ProSeries hitch to keep it quiet and they are a snug fit, but they fit ! Hopefully they will hold up to my 17K lb 5th wheel, but if not they are cheap enough to replace, depending on how much life I get out of them in the torturing southwest desert sun.
I was trying too eliminate the clanking of my hitch, so I ordered these Curt rubber spacers, and after waiting for the order, they don't work. The problem is that when they are installed they raise the base and you are unable too slide the pin in too secure the hitch too the rails. Waste of my money since I purchased 2 set's.
Got the Curt hitch pads sooner than I expected! Took 5 minutes to install, the hitch to rails is much tighter. We don't go on our next trip until April 10th so I'll have to put in another review after I tow with these pads installed.
I did not realize how much play the 5th wheel hitch had until I installed these! The road rattles I heard while going over bumps are now gone! Great product If you do not want to hear the rattles of the road anymore!
Was a tad shocked when the item arrived due to the size as I was expecting something thicker after all the reviews about trouble installing pins after installation of rubber pads, that aside I am happy with it as I don't hear the fifth wheel while going down the road but as for longevity we will have to wait and see. If your 5th wheel clanks going down the road you need this product.
Product is OK, does not last long, poor design of hitch mounting. If rubber had metal backing on one side it would last longer.
Anderson hitch has made things very easy to hook up and go as we do multiple times a year. The locking cable froze during extreme cold one time and had to take it off and warm it up for a few minutes, but then worked fine.
I adapted these with a piece of sheet metal to fit under a set of Reese legs that were shaped like a channel.
They have virtually eliminated the clanging noise of the hitch legs banging around in the rails.
We are VERY pleased with them!
Worked as advertized. Adding these took out the little bit of wobble I had in fifth wheel hitch where it mounted to the rails. Easy to install. Just put them over the tab on the hitch that goes into the rail.
As already mentioned they do initially make it hard to put hitch pins in. I had to use a rubber mallet. I think once they get bedded in it will be easy though. Does isolate hitch from rails nicely. It's a thin but dense rubber and at least when initially installed has taken whatever slight play the hitch had in the rails right out.
This item is orignal part I needed to take metal to metal noise and slack from my curt 5th wheel rails. Delivery was fast. I will definitely use etrailer.com again
Shipping was fast and these will help with noise and wear on 5th wheel mounting rails. Tracking of shipping was so easy .
Installed these on my new Curt A25 hitch, hoping they isolate and reduce some metal to metal "clanking" between the hitch and the rails.
I actually could not get my hitch pins to go into place with these washers/spacers in place. To be honest, I did not spend a lot of time trying to push down on hitch to make them work, because I was in a hurry.
Used with my curt 5th wheel to gooseneck plate. Highly recommend this. Stops rattles and makes the fit super tight.
Got here quickly. Haven't made time to install them yet. But seem sturdy, a little thinner than expected but will hold off judgement until they are installed.
