Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the Curt Threaded Quick Link

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt Threaded Quick Link. This is a sturdy link that provides a quick link for chains, cables, ropes or straps. It' going to feature the threaded barrel keeper, that's going to screw shut. No tools are required. It's very easy to use. Now if you would like to use a wrench to tighten and loosen, an 11/16 inch wrench or a 17 millimeter would work on this unit.

It's made from a steel construction. It's got a nice, strong, durable design and it's going to have a zinc coating, so it's going to be protected well from rust and corrosion. Engraved right here on the link it says WLL2640, that's going to be the working load limit of the link, 2,640 pounds. The diameter is 7/16 of an inch. If we take a look at the opening that we have, when it fully opens we're measuring this gap here. You can see that's going to measure pretty close to 1/2 an inch.

Now I do want to point out that the diameter of this threaded portion is slightly larger than the diameter of the actual quick link. Again, the quick link has a diameter of 7/16 of an inch, the threaded diameter is going to be right around 1/2 of an inch. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. We want to give you both the external measurements and the internal measurements. We'll do the external first, so measuring from edge to edge it's going to measure about 3 5/8 of an inch going this direction to the outside of that barrel. Edge to edge is about 1 and 3/4 of an inch.

Now internal, we're looking at about 2 and 7/8 of an inch. We'll measure below the barrel internal, that's going to give us a measurement of about 3/4 of an inch and then to that barrel we're looking at about 5/8 of an inch. That's going to do it for today's look at the Curt Threaded Quick Link.

I used these products to repair and replace the safety chains on a 16' haul trailer. The Quick Links made the change over easy! The original chains were never long enough and these items did exactly what I needed, and with the advice of customer support, I know they provide the proper strength to insure safety. The replacement lens cover was a perfect fit. Thanks!

Product looks good. It was a little bit too thick to fit through the chain link, but that is my mistake for not checking the measurements.

  • Comparing Class III Trailer Hitch Receivers For a 2022 Toyota Sienna
I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT55MR over the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C22UR for your 2022 Toyota Sienna. The Draw-Tite has larger chain hanger openings which will make it easier connecting the safety chains of any trailer you may tow. With the narrow openings on the Curt receiver you may need to get Quick Links # C82931 for some of the larger chain hooks. The Curt receiver has a maximum tongue weight rating of 350lbs and maximum trailer weight rating...

  • Dimensions of the Curt 7/16 Inch Quick Link # C82931
The diameter of the threaded portion of the Curt 7/16 Inch Quick Link, # C82931, is .504 inches, just over a 1/2 inch. I do not think that this will fit through the link in your chain. Depending on the exact measurement of the gap, you may be able to fit the 3/8 inch Quick Link, # 6590-044-04. The threaded portion of this link measures .462 inches which is slightly larger than 7/16. I have attached dimension diagrams that I created for you. There are no spec sheets available for these...

  • Weight Rating of Quick Links Included with Roadmaster Safety Cable Extensions RM-910648-12
The Roadmaster Safety Cable Extensions # RM-910648-12 do include Quick Link connectors. The connectors alone are part # RM-910022 and these are rated for 6000-lbs. Other Quick Links like Curt # C82931 are rated lower, in this case 2640-lbs.

  • What is the Distance of the Opening of the CURT Quick Link When Opened All the Way
I went out into our warehouse and measured the opening of a CURT Quick Link # C82931 and found the opening to be .48 inches when completely opened. This should have no problem going over chain links that are smaller in diameter than that. Check out the video I put together that shows me taking this measurement with a dial caliper.

  • How to Keep Safety Chains from Dragging
Safety chains dragging is a common issue and concern and we do offer a solution for this problem. You will want the Quick Links - 7/16" Diameter - Qty 2 item # C82931 to shorten your chains so they don't drag the ground. You want to make sure you don't shorten them too much and restrict your turning capacity. I can not give you a more accurate answer because there are so many variables. How long your chains are, how far back your chain hangers are, the elevation change you will be going...

  • Can Curt Threaded Quick Links Be Used To Make Connecting Safety Chains Easier
Yes, quick links like the Curt # C82931 you referenced would be a simple solution to make connecting your safety chains easier. These specific links has a working load limit of 2,640lbs each so you'd have plenty of capacity for your 4,800lb trailer.

  • Recommendation for Attaching a Trailer Breakaway Pull Pin Cable to Tow Vehicle
Since breakaway pull pins require a pretty decent amount of force for them to get removed from a breakaway switch I would not recommend running the cable of the switch to a license plate bracket. Many people just put the cable through the safety chain loop on the hitch and then run the pin through the small loop in the end of the cable. This secures the cable to the hitch and no other parts are needed. In this configuration you need to mount the switch close enough to the coupler to make...

  • Is there a Capacity Requirement for Safety Cable Attachment to the Vehicle for a Breakaway System
The connector used should be capable of pulling the pin from the switch at any reasonable angle. You will also want it to be secure enough that you will not lose the cable and pin in the unfortunate event of a breakaway. Many people just put the cable through the chain loop on the hitch and then run the pin through the small loop in the end of the cable. This secures the cable to the hitch and no other parts are needed. In this configuration you need to mount the switch close enough to...

  • What Type Of Clip Is Used To Attach The Cable Of Hopkins Breakaway Kit # 20099 To The Vehicle
The Hopkins Trailer Breakaway Kit, part # 20099, does require a pretty good pull on the cable for it to come out of the breakaway switch. It is designed to be able to be pulled out when the trailer becomes disconnected from the vehicle, but not when there is just a light pull from any small object that might interfere with the cable. They do not list a pulling strength on the cable of the breakaway kit. Many people just put the cable through the safety chain loop on the hitch and then...
