Video Transcript for Curt Safety Chains and Cables C82932 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt Threaded Quick Link. The sturdy link provides a quick link for chains, cables, ropes or straps. It's going to feature the threaded keeper that screws shut. No tools are necessary. Now if you want to use a wrench to tighten or loosen, you can certainly do that. This will accept a three quarter inch wrench, or a nineteen millimeter would work as well. The unit's made from a steel construction, so it's got a nice, strong, durable design to it.

It's actually has a zinc coating, which is going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. When it comes the working load limit, we're looking at three thousand, three hundred and thirty pounds. That working load limit is engraved right here on the link itself. Also the diameter of the link is engraved on there, and that's going to be a half inch diameter. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. I want to take a measurement of the opening right here.

That's going to give us a measurement of five eighths of an inch. Now you will notice that the threaded piece right here is just a little bit larger in diameter then compared to the actual link itself. When I took a measurement of that diameter, I'll try to show it on a ruler, I used a digital caliper just to be sure, that's going to give us a diameter pretty close to five eighths of an inch, right in between nine sixteenths and five eighths of an inch. Some other measurements to go over with you real quick. We want to give you the internal measurement, just how much space you're going to have to work with inside the link. The opening, that's going to give us a measurement of about three and five sixteenths of an inch.

The width opening, right below that barrel is going to measure about seven eighths, and if we go up against that barrel, inside area, we're looking at about three quarters of a inch, as long as you have this turned to where it's flat on that back side. No outer edge to outer edge, that's going to give us a measurement of around four and one quarter. Then going this direction, outer edge to outer edge, we're looking at about two inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the Curt Threaded Quick Link.

I use these to attach straps to my trailer tie downs. Since the surface on the tie down points is a little rough, they would wear down the fabric on the straps. These quick links are perfectly smooth and were the perfect solution for my purpose.

Great connector for safety cables on my boat.

Comments
After a year, the connectors still look and perform like new.

I am glad you wrote me the links I recieved do not fit the inteded
application. I have a 2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD. The hooks do not open
wide enough to slip through the trailer hook holes.

by:

I needed a link to attach my safety chains to my trailer . These were perfect. Definitely overkill but
Over design is not bad when talking safety .

Thanks

by:

I have not installed both parts until after I find some chain or cable to connect them.

  • Inside Measurements of Curt Quick Link # C82932
With the quick link # C82932 closed the inside measures 3-5/16 inches by 3/4 inches at the nut or 7/8 inches away from the nut. This is shown in the video I have linked for you. I also made a picture showing the measurements.

  • Can Quick Links be Used to Add Length to Trailer Safety Chains
Quick links like the Curt # C82932 would work for what you are needing. Each of these have a capacity of 3,300 lbs so you'd easily have the 5,000 lb weight of the trailer covered since these would be used in pairs.

  • S-Hooks and Quick Links Rated for At Least 7,600 Pounds for Trailer Safety Chains
I recommend going with the S-hooks, # C81830. They would be the easiest to use between them and the clevis set up that you are currently using. You can use quick link # C82932 as well. It is rated for 10,000 pounds. The S-hooks and quick links should make for quick and easy attachment/removal.

  • What to Do When Safety Chain Hooks Wont Fit Holes in Trailer Hitch
In this situation, most folks either replace the safety chains, using a hook that will fit. Another option would be to use a quick link, like # C82932. Attach the quick link to the safety chain hole in the hitch, then attach the safety chain hook to the quick link. The exact link or replacement safety chain you need will depend on the weight of the trailer. You'll want to choose chains or links with a capacity equal to or greater than the weight of your trailer.

  • What is the Strength Rating of the Quick Links Included in Tow Ready Safety Chain # TR63035
The Quick Links included in the Tow Ready Safety Chain # TR63035 are rated along with the chain itself for 5000-lbs break strength. The working load limit (WLL) is 1650-lbs. I verified this with my contact at TowReady. We do offer Quick Link connectors as stand-alone items, and in various ratings ranging from a few hundred pounds up to part # C82932 that is rated for 16,500-lbs capacity (and 3300-lbs safe working load limit). You can search our site by putting the term safety chain quick...

  • Weight Load Range for Roadmaster Cable Connector Set # RM-910022
I contacted the manufacturer to find out the load range for this product, part # RM-910022. It is specified for a 2000 pound snap rating. Please note that cable connectors of this type are designed and rated specifically for a horizontal line pull application (but not for hoisting or lifting). The capacities quoted by manufacturers are for this type of application only. I suggest you consider Hidden Hitch part # C82932, which also comes as a set of two. These half-inch Quick Links have...

The heaviest I have available is the Threaded Quick Link part # C82932. I put these on my dad's 2019 for this same reason. They have a break strength of 16,500lbs each and a safe working load limit of 3300 lb each for a 6600 lb total.

  • Quick Link Availability that has 10k Capacity for Use with Safety Chains
The part # RM-910022 is rated for 6,000 lbs so would not be a good choice for your setup that tows a 7,500 lb trailer but the part # C82932 has a 3,300lb safe working load capacity and 16,500lb break strength capacity, which would be way to go.

  • Do Safety Chain Extension Links Have to Exceed Weight of Tow Vehicle
Safety chain extension links simply need to match the size and capacities of your current safety chains. For example, if your chains were 1/2" diameter with a 16,500 lbs break strength and 3,300 lb working load limit you would want the Threaded Quick Link - 1/2" Diameter # C82932. In regards to just the capacity for chains, the combined ratings of two safety chains should simply exceed the capacity of what you are towing. So for example two of the Curt Safety Chain with S-Hooks - 47" Long...

  • Can You Use Quick Links With Saftey Cables On A Trailer
Yes, you can use a quick link like # C82932 to attach your Curt Saftey Cables # C80176, however each component must exceed or meet the GVWR of your trailer. So if your trailer is 12,000lbs, you'd need quick links that are also rated for at least 12,000lbs. The quick link mentioned above # C82932 is rated for a maximum of 16,500 pounds, and a working load limit of 3,300 pounds.

  • Method for Crimping Safety Chain Hook onto Safety Chains
It is not advisable to use a hammer on an item like the Curt # C81810 as this can weaken the link and cause it to fail when under load. A better option is to use a vice which can apply gradual pressure to close the link. It sounds like a better option for you might be to use a safety chain quick link, such as Curt # C82932. This has a threaded connector to allow easy installation and removal when necessary. This link is rated for 3,300lbs safe working load rating and 16,500lb break strength...

  • Trailer Safety Cables Will Not Fit Factory Class V Trailer Hitch on 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD
I am not sure what the gross trailer weight is on what you are towing with your 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 but I have some option that could work. We have quick link # C82932 which is rated for 16,500 pounds break strength and 3,300 pound safe working load limit and has a 1/2 inch diameter. We also have # C81830 with a 15/32 inch diameter rated for 7,600 pounds per hook. These items would allow you to use the chains you have but you would need to go by the capacity of the lowest rated component.

  • Safety Chains for a 2003 Zieman PWC Trailer that Weighs 1,200 Pounds
You will want your safety chains to at least match the gross trailer weight but preferably you will go over that. Safety chain # 2118-605-04 is rated for 5000 pounds breaking strength so it is definitely enough for your PWC trailer. But you can't beat the price for the capacity. A good rule of thumb is to take the breaking strength, in this case 5,000 pounds, and divide by 3. If the result is still greater than the gross trailer weight, in this case 1,667 pounds, then it is safe to use. You...

  • Replacing Safety Chain Loops on Trailer That Broke Off
Happy new year to you as well! The best way to replace (or add new) safety chain loops to your trailer frame is to simply have new ones like the Brophy # MB38 welded on. There's really not another good method for doing this that will ensure safe operation in the event of a breakaway situation. You can then add some Quick Links like # C82932 (if you don't already have them) to the loops that will hook up to your safety chains. I have attached a short video review on the Safety Chain...

  • Safety Chain, Quick Link and Chain Mount Recommendation for XLR Hyperlite Toy Hauler
The parts you all mentioned would have enough capacity for the weight of your 9.9k toy hauler. The part # MB38 would work well for mounting the safety chains # 49150 with the quick link # C82932. Now where the part # MB38 should install on your trailer is going to be dependent on your trailer setup. I would put it on the trailer frame as near to the coupler as you can but you really should mock it up in a couple places to find where it would fit the best.

Technically they are both rated for 6,000 lbs but since these are there in case of a worst-case scenario you don't want to exceed the 6,000 lbs (in case one were to break). If you like the look and function of the coiled safety cables then we do have the Curt # C80176 which are rated for 7,500 lbs.
