After inspecting the brakes on my Demco Kar Kaddy, The brake shoes had some deep cracks in the shoe lining. I started researching the best option for replacement and ETrailer had exactly what I needed. The parts showed up within a week without incident. I could of just replaced the shoes but since I purchased this trailer used I wanted to make sure everything was top notch. I purchased the complete brake set, which comes with new wheel cylinders, shoes springs and all hardware. The job went smooth, remove the wheel and tire, remove the brake drum, I took the brake drums into a local shop and had them turned, remove the brake line, remove the four bolts that hold the hub and backing plate to the axle. The bolts had loctite on them so I took a tap and cleaned up the threads. I installed the new backing plate, put some new blue thread lock to the bolts and tightened to specifications. I adjusted the brakes to the freshly turned drums, bled the brakes reinstalled the tires and wheels and I was back in business.

by:

Easy to install and working as expected.

Ordered wrong set, contacted etrailer and had correct set sent. No issues, other than a 7 to 10 day delay for a credit reimbursement. Make sure you verify the mounting plate bolt pattern and distances between bolts.

Product shipped and was received within a couple of days. Finally warmed up enough to tackle this project. My tow-dolly is a 1998 so the job was a little different than the video shows. Had to wrench the bolts all the way out with a cheater ( think Loc-Tite ). Also needed a little help with a hammer to separate hub/spindle from backing plate. Went back together pretty well. New actuator went right into place.
Great service.

I bought an old boat trailer "70 vintage" that had surge brakes. unfortunaly the wheel cylinders were bad and needed replaced. after several atemps I could not locate the proper cylinders or rebuild kits. I came across Etrailer's brake back plate kits and was amazed at the low price so I desided to try them. They bolted right up and fit purfectly on a 40+ year old axel and are working as they should. I upgraded the trailer to the self adjusting brake kit and is very pleased with the outcome.

I had initially ordered the dual servo drum brakes and realized my mistake shortly before they arrived. I called customer service and Alex was extremely helpful and accommodating with helping me choose the correct brakes and exchanging the original ones. I have ordered from etrailer.com before and have never been disappointed.

by:

Received this products in record time, a week earlier than expected. In fact, haven't even opened the box yet as it is raining in California. Both issues, delivery and rain are most unexpected.

by:

Products arrived in 2 days, fit perfectly and the price couldn't be beat. Etrailer will always be my first choice parts place. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Appears solid, well-assembled, and well galvanized. Not yet installed but looks good so far!

  • Can Hydraulic Brakes of Demco Tow Dolly be Converted to Electric Brakes
Since Demco uses 3,500 drum brake assemblies part # DMSB24429M and # DMSB24428M what you'd need is similar 3,500 electric brake assemblies like the etrailer part # AKEBRK-35L-SA for the left hand side and # AKEBRK-35R-SA for the right hand side. To wire these up you'd just need 10 gauge wire like the part # 10-1-1 which we sell by the foot. Then to add a 7-way the easiest way to do that is with the 7-way junction box # e99011.

  • Need Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit for 1999 Demco Kar Kaddy Model KK360
The Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit, # AKUBRK-35 that you linked to is for a 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide and for 4 bolt flange. It does appear that his will fit the application you are asking for, for the 1999 Demco Kar Kaddy Model KK360 with drum brakes. However, I will point out that we have the recommended replacement brake assemblies for the Demco Kar Kaddy in # DMSB24429M for the left side and # DMSB24428M for the right. The # AKUBRK-35 is a good product but Demco does recommend the...

  • How to Reduce Brake Pad Pressure to Allow Hub Removal from Demco Kar Kaddy
If you have removed the tang washer and castle nut from the spindle on your tow dolly and the hub still will not come off the brake pads you can try adjusting the brakes to reduce the pad pressure. They could be gripping the inside drum surface enough to make hub removal difficult. The brakes for the Kar Kaddy, such as right-hand part # DMSB24428M, are self-adjusting but they still have a star wheel adjuster at the bottom of the assembly, like brake kit # 18788-87, that can be accessed...

  • Correct Hydraulic Drum Brakes For Demco Kar Kaddy Tow Dolly
The Demco Kar Kaddy tow dolly does require these specific brakes, and there aren't other kits that will work, it does need the following: - Left Hand: Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake - Single Servo # DMSB24429M - Right Hand: Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake - Single Servo # DMSB24428M The reason for that is these brakes mount to a specific bolt pattern of 4 on 3.96" which is different than standard hydraulic brake kits; essentially, they are designed specifically for use with the Demco Kar Kaddy...

  • Does the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly Come With the Drum?
I do have a solution for you but the answer to your question is no, the Demco Hydraulic Drum 3,500 lbs - 10" Brake Assembly # DMSB24429M is just the brake assembly without the drum. Keep in mind that when selecting a brake assembly and hubs that you make sure they will have the same weight capacity that your axle has. You will want to make sure that whichever brake assembly you choose that you get the Right Hand side as well, in this case it would be the Hydraulic Drum Brake part # DMSB24428M. I...

  • Replacement Brake Assembly Recommendation for 1997 MasterCraft 20 ft Boat
Since your trailer has 10 inch by 2-1/4 inch brake assemblies currently all of the assemblies you mentioned are going to work. I would go with the sefl-adjusting part numbers # DMSB24428M and # DMSB24429M though since you mentioned you were interested in that option. The matching Titan assemblies are part # T4423500 for the left hand side and part # T4423400 for the right hand side. Based on the seal dimensions you listed the part # 168233 is the correct replacement. We don't carry...

  • Brake Mounting Hole Pattern for Demco # DMSB24428M Hydraulic Brake Assembly
The Demco # DMSB24428M hydraulic brake assembly uses an oddball bolt pattern that's laid out in a rectangle, rather than a square like what's usually found. When correctly aligned so the brake cylinder is at the top, the bottom holes measure 3.25 inches apart, center to center. The top holes are 2.40 inches apart from the bottom holes, again measured center to center. You can see this dimension in the photo I've edited for you. To clarify, the brake assembly you're wanting to replace is...

  • Trailer Brake Recommendation for LoadRite Boat Trailer with 10 x 2-1/4 Inch Wheels
There are many possible reasons why your brake could have failed. It is hard to specify why yours may have failed. I recommend checking the reverse lock-out on your actuator to make sure it is working properly. Backing up with your trailer connected if your reverse lock-out isn't functioning could be why your brakes failed. If the lock-out isn't working, you could use the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly - Free Backing # 40716, # 40715. These brakes would allow you to back up with your...
