  • Replacing Brakes On A 1989 Silver Streak Travel Trailer With Hadco Axles
That is a neat looking camper. 1989 was a good year. Honestly, the same answer will apply to the brakes on your 1989 Silver Streak Travel Trailer. The 12" x 2" brakes are still standard. We will just need to make sure that the brake mounting flange bolt pattern matches up. These days the 5 bolt flange, like on part # AKEBRK-7-SA is standard for the 12" brakes. I have included a diagram showing the dimensions of the standard 5 bolt brake flange for your reference. We do not have a record...

  • Center Hole Diameter of Brake Assembly 23-106-09
The center hole of the brake assemblies # 23-105-09 and # 23-106-09 measures 3-3/16 inches across. The kit for both of these is the part # 23-105-106-09 that you referenced.

  • Electric Trailer Brakes to Replace Hayes/AL-KO Brakes on a Homemade Trailer
It sounds like you have the brake mounting flange for Hayes/AL-KO brakes. The standard 5-bolt brake mounting pattern on # AKEBRK-6 will not work. We do have brakes that have that mounting pattern though. You will need # 23-105-09 for the left and # 23-106-09 for the right. I have included a picture showing the hole spacing of these brakes for you as well.

  • When Should I Replace My Brakes On The Dexter Electronic Brake Assembly # 23-106?
I reached out to Dexter about your specific question concerning your brakes # 23-106-09. A simple visual inspection of your brake linings will tell if they are usable. Replacement is necessary if the lining is worn to 1/16" or less. Shoes contaminated with grease or oil, or abnormally scored or gouged should also be replaced. Hairline heat cracks are normal in bonded linings and should not be cause for concern. When replacement is necessary, it is important to replace both shoes on each...

  • 7,000 lbs Electric Drum Brakes on a 5,200 lbs Axle
Yes, you can use the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 7,000 lbs item # 23-180-181 on your 5,200 lbs axle so long as you have a 5 bolt flange like the one linked in the diagram below. These brakes fit a 12" x 2" drum. Another option is to use the Dexter Electric Brake Assembly for 12" - Right Hand - 6,000 lbs item # 23-106-09 and the Left Hand item # 23-105-09 which fit both 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flanges.

  • Brake Assembly Recommendation for a 6k Dexter Axle with 12 inch Assemblies
Sorry about the problems you were having with our brake install/setup video. We have been having some issues with our servers here lately so that is probably why. For a 6k, 12 inch brake assembly with a 5 lug install bolt pattern you would want the part # 23-458 for the left hand side and part # 23-459 for the right hand side.

You'll need to do some quick measuring of your backing plate/brake flange to see if you can use the 6,000 lb Dexter Electric Brake Assembly for 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flange - 12" - Left Hand # 23-105-09. We do stock all types of replacement parts for electric drum brakes like the 12-inch Dexter 6K brakes # 23-105-09 (left) and # 23-106-09 (right). These items are not kitted together but you can see each item we have, from magnets to brake shoes to mounting hardware, on the linked page. The closest brake assemblies we offer to the dimensions you said you have are part # 23-105-09 for the left hand, and # 23-106-09 for the right. The 4-hole bolt pattern is 3-1/4 inches for the top two holes, 2-1/2 inches for the lower two holes and the distance top to bottom is 3-3/8 inches. The same answer would apply. The brake assembly # 23-106-09 is designed to fit a Hayes/AL-KO or Dexter axle with either the 4-bolt or 5-bolt mounting flange. These are 12 x 2 inch brakes. To measure the drum you will measure the inside diameter. It should be 12 inches. Then measure either the width of the old pad or the width of the surface it would contact on the inside of the drum. That should be 2 inches. These brakes are designed for 6,000 pound axles but could also be used on a 5,200...

  • Replacement 12 inch Brake Assemblies for Prowler Trailer With 4 Bolt Mounting Flange
Definitely looks like you have the Hayes 4 bolt style of 12 inch brake assemblies. So for the right hand side you'd want the part # 23-106-09 or for the left hand side part # 23-105-09. • Replacement Trailer Brake Assemblies that Have 4 Bolt Pattern and 12 inch Diameter
Your dimensions are a little unique but I would assume you have an AL KO brand axle with a 6k axle and the correct assemblies would be the part # 23-105-09 and # 23-106-09. This is 12 inch in diameter assembly that can attach with a 4 or 5 lug bolt pattern. I would recommend checking the axles for a tag that has it's capacity listed or see if there's a part number you can see on old assemblies/hubs to verify this.

  • How to Determine if Trailer Brake Assemblies 23-106-09/23-105-09 Fit Trailer
I can help you find the right assemblies, but I do not know exactly which ones you have on your trailer. To pick out the correct brake assemblies for your trailer you need to know a few things. You will want to measure the inner diameter of your hub/drums and the depth of the drums to determine what brake assembly dimensions you need. For example the part # 23-105-09 is a 12 inch by inch thick brake assembly. You also want to determine what the bolt pattern is of your assembly mounting...

  • 12 x 2 Inch Electric Trailer Brakes with a 4 Bolt Mounting Pattern
The 4-bolt brake mounting pattern is fairly rare in a 12 x 2 inch assembly. We have some options though; for 6K axles we have # 23-105-09 for the left and # 23-106-09 for the right. The 4-bolt pattern on these assemblies is offset meaning the bottom 2 holes are closer together than the top 2 holes. If that is what you have then either set listed above would work. I have linked videos on each of these types of brakes for you.

  • 4-Hole Spacing Measurements on Dexter 12 x 2 Inch Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies
The mounting holes (4 hole pattern) on Dexter brake assembly, # 23-106-09, are 3.09 inches on center for the top two holes and 2.55 inches apart on center for the bottom 2 holes. Top to bottom they are 3.40 inches apart on center. The holes can accommodate a 7/16 inch bolt size. So it appears to be a match with the mounting plate you have. The matching left hand assembly is # 23-105-09.

  • Differences Between # 23-458 and #23-106-00 12 by 2 Inch Brake Assemblies
Other than both brake assemblies being a 12x2 inch for a 6K axle, there are several differences between the two brake assemblies. Brake assemblies are either right or left side of the trailer specific. The # 23-458 is for the left side of a trailer while # 23-106-09 is for the right hand. The # 23-458 is a Nev-R-Adjust assembly that will self adjust each time the trailer is backed. The # 23-106-09 requires the brakes be manually adjusted. The # 23-106-09 is compatible with either the...

There are hubs/drums available for the # 23-105 and # 23-106 brake assemblies. You'll want to go with a 12 x 2 drum, and you'll want to choose one that has bearing compatible with your existing spindle and a lug and bolt circle pattern that's compatible with your existing wheels. If you'd care to reply with your inner and outer bearing reference numbers and the number of lugs and the bolt circle of your wheels, I'd be happy to make specific recommendations.

  • Parts Needed to Convert 6K Axles from Hydraulic to Electric Drum Brakes
We can help you convert your 6K-rated hydraulic brake axles over to electric drum brakes. Electric brakes are less costly to install and easier to maintain than hydraulics and more and more we're seeing boat trailer makers in particular installing electric brakes as OEM equipment.
