Today we're going to take a look at the Dexter 12 inch left hand driver's side Uni-servo hydraulic drum brake assembly for 5200 pound axles. The hydraulic drum brake assemblies are designed for use with surge type trailer brake actuators. This one is a Uni-servo, which is the single plunger design, and these are manual adjustment brakes, so it does require periodic manual adjustment. Right down here is your adjustment gear to adjust them. Now, this one is a left hand driver's side brake assembly. Also, comes with the five mounting lock washer nuts to install it. The bolts, you can see, are not on here.
Now, the bolts on a 12 inch size brake is usually on the brake mounting phalange, so all you'll need is the nut washer that'll attach it. This also comes with adjuster plugs. If I turn to the backing plate, right down here you'll see there's an access hole and it has a plug in it. Those access holes are what are used to put your adjustment tool through to adjust your brakes. These will have a rubber plug in them, which is nice because it helps keep any dirt or grime from getting into your brake assemblies and on the brake shoes. A few specs on this, the size, 12 inch by two inch, and that's measured 12 inches in diameter from here to here.
If we take a ruler, you can see there's your 12 inch. The width is the width of the pad on the shoe. There's your two inch wide. We mentioned the brake mounting phalange bolt pattern, you can see is five bolt. It does require the use of 12 inch brake drums.
We'll use a wheel size of 14 1/2 inch, 15 inch, or 16 inch. Again, this is designed for axles that are rated at 5200 pounds. This one is the left hand or driver's side assembly and the way you can tell that, on a new assembly, it'll have a sticker, so that's the easiest way. If the sticker wasn't there, you just have to look at the length of the pad on the brake shoe. This one goes from here to here, and the pad over here is all the way from here to here. This is the longer pad.
Shorter pad. The shorter pad is the primary shoe that'll always face the front of the trailer, so that'll tell you that this is the left hand driver's side brake assembly. That should do it for the review on the Dexter 12 inch left hand driver's side Uni-servo hydraulic drum brake assembly for 5200 pound axle.
