This part was an exact fit replacement. It has worked perfectly

Brake assembly works perfect. Very easy to swap out.

by:

Exact replacement for the airstream 12x 2 brake assembly. Service and delivery were excellent.

by:

Did a remove and replace. Original Dexter Brake assemblies had curved wear and missing the brake adjusting plugs, getting dust and no doubt water in them from the Airstream plant in Jackson Center, OH. All EIGHT of eight wheels had them missing.

That was my Problem. Now the Cure:

etrailer had two Brake Assembly kits at my door three days after ordering. I installed them today and they work and had supplied five fresh locking bolts and the two plastic brake adjusting plugs.

I am one happy Airstream trailer camper. First time doing brakes on a trailer and it was much easier doing the complete assembly. Will break them in as suggested in their installation instructions.

I recommended etrailer.com on the Airforums.com that Airstream owners follow for information. One member already said he ordered parts, as he did not know how to find what he needed.

Excellent service ordering from my computer. Notice of parts being shipped was emailed to me. Parts were dropped off at my doorstop. If the carton had some glazed doughnuts included... it would have been 5% better.

George J.... you did me right as a first time customer.

Perfect replacement for my 24ft Hallmark trailer. Very easy to install, just bolt on and connect the wires. With the automatic adjustment there is nothing else to do! I recommend putting some extra anti-seize to be on the safe side (I had similar brakes seize up after a big winter in the North East). Also you will need 2 plugs per assembly to cover the adjustment holes (the brakes don't come with any plug and have 2 holes!)

by:

Fast delivery, product fit perfectly and was just as discribed. Purchased 6 never adjust Assy's for 6000 lb axles. Much easier than replacing part by part.

Still working great with no issues

by:

EVERYTHING FITS AS EXPECTED AND WITH ALL NEW PARTS!

by:

New brake assemblies were easier to install than just shoes and price was not much more than shoes. Excellent quality. Work better than originals.

by:

These went on very easy, and worked great right out of the box. It was nice to have them all match. I spliced them in a couple days before going on a 1,000+ mile vacation to Arizona. They've worked flawlessly (I check them to make sure they aren't hung up). This was just one headache eliminated for the trip by just getting new brakes instead of messing around with junky old ones. We've had the toyhauler out on several other trips also. I will purchase again if I need any for another trailer.

The brakes have been working great. After the initial installment and adjustment, I havent had to do any additional work to any of them. They are performing great, really better than I expected. I always test them with my brake controller when I first get back on the road and they have always worked. I have recd a few of my friends to buy any parts they need from your website as it was easy and had lots of options trailer stores around here are pretty limited.

Fit perfectly and easy to install

by:

I purchased the 12" auto adjust brake set for my trailer. They arrived in a timely manner and installation was VERY easy. 5 bolts and 2 wire connections and one unit done.

They worked as they should from the first use. I only took it around the block to make sure they worked as they should and they worked just fine.

If you need to replace your brakes I would look at these as they make it A LOT easier than just replacing the shoes although a bit more expensive, but then again everything on the backing plate is new and won't need to be replaced for a long time down the road.

I am real happy with them! I have an older double axel 29ft toy hauler thatonly 2 of the 4 brakes were working. So after installing the new brakesneedless to say it stops like it should!Im very happy with them and glad that they worked like they were supposedto! If I need parts again I check your site to see if you have it and go fromthere. Thanks again!

by:

I bought these for my 30' fifth wheel trailer. The product arrived quickly from Etrailer.com. Appears to be well made with quality components made in the USA. I have only completed one side so, I can not write about performance however, from my initial impression these will work fine.

Great J.

Its been a year since the install and I am happy to say all is well. One thing to note about these brakes is you must adjust them initially!. It will take a very long time to adjust them if you dont do the initial adjustment. The paint has not chipped nor do I see any signs of rust.

by:

Wanted to wait until after our most recent trip with our trailer before giving you the one year follow-up. Just pulled the trailer almost 1000 miles in the Rocky Mountains. The Nev-R-Adjust brakes & drums worked great and I felt very confident in their performance. I really appreciate not having to crawl under the trailer to adjust the brakes. All are good products and I would recommend them to all.

by:

We put these never adjust brakes on after we removed the manual adjust brakes from our Cargo Trailer converted to a RV. We then installed the never adjust electric brakes and broke them in according to the instructions. We then started and completed a 19,400 mile trip from Florida to California then to Washington then to the UP of Michigan then to the Adirondack Mountains of NY and then back to Florida. We never had a problem with the brakes. We visited 17 National Parks, 7 state parks and numerous national forests. Great trip with no problems.

by:

The conversion from Hydraulic to electric brakes was TOO easy. Totally completed 4 wheel overhaul (bearing kit BK3-110) and brake conversion (including wiring) in just over 3 hours. On the road and working AWESOME. Only item that threw me (not a big deal) the cotter pin in BK3-110 was too small for the spindle and nut. Had some the right size in the shop so no worries.

by:

These Dexter fit the Lippert axles perfectly. I HAVE NOT road tested them yet, but wanted to leave a review regardless mainly because etrailer asked me to. These brakes are a good value, really, but they are packaged poorly in a large box with only some brown paper. They are pretty heavy and that means lots of banging going on in delivery. One of the pads had a chip missing and 2 were unassembled--cable and star wheel dislodged. I contacted etrailer and they sent me 2 new ones and emailed me a return label. All said, it was an inconvenience, but the price can't be beat. Again, performance has yet to be determined, but I'm obviously all in as they are mounted.

by:

When I was looking for brake pads for our fifth wheel these came up as a very pleasant surprise. I had never seen these full brake assemblies before.

I had not done mechanical work for a good many years and these were perfect. All you have to do is undo five nuts, exchange old assembly for new and replace the nuts. You also have to splice the two wires for the electric brakes and you should be sure to use a heat shrink sleeve to keep the connection from corroding. BTW, you don't have to worry about polarity with the wires.

In short it takes longer to dismount the tire and hub than it does to change these out. Great.

Regrettably, I forgot to take pics but these make for a very clean job.

by:

I purchased 4 of the 12" Nev-R-Adjust brake assemblies for my Cardinal becuse I have been having some squeaky and binding brake issues with the old ones. I was surprised at how quickly I received them. They are easy to install; just undo the old wiring, remove the five bolts holding the backing plate brake assembly and put the new ones on. These are a bit more expensive than replacing just the shoes but ALOT easier and more dependable. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to test drive the rig to see if this corrected the problem.
But take note that the two little rubber covers on the backing plate by the star wheel are not included. These must be ordered seperately.

by:

Bought a used skid steer trailer that needed all new bearings and electric brakes. It was easy to find the correct bearing kit on etrailer and installation videos on the site made it a breeze for a DIY'er.

by:

I ordered a Dexter Nev-R-Adjust electric brake assembly. Easy purchase. Great shipping. Super simple part to in install. If I need trailer parts again, I'll definitely return for more this great service and excellent parts.

by:

Outstanding customer service and very fast shipping.

by:

Great product and price. Can't be beat. I checked all over. Amy handled my phone order and questions like the Pro she is. Great job. Brakes fit perfectly the first time. Couldn't have been simpler. Make sure you order the dust plugs for the backing plates. You need two each and your old ones won't fit. Conversion to Nev-r-Adjust couldn't be simpler. 30 mins. and the job was done. Thanks Amy and E-Trailer!

by:

Very easy way to do a brake job on a trailer. Not sure why the manufacture recommended not adjusting the brakes after they are installed. They say the brakes will adjust by their self. I fallowed their directions but quickly returned home to adjust all for wheels and all in now good.

by:

So far so good. Instulation was easy and straight forward. Haven't had a chance to try them yet.

by:

Great way to replace your trailer brakes. No grief or headaches, simple and all the components are new, so you have no potential issues. Easy to install, and made well. Always happy when I deal with e-trailer. Great prices, nice website, great selection, quick delivery...awesome!

by:

Quick shipment, super easy to install. Remove 5 bolts, cut the wires and the old one comes off. Tighten 5 bolts, reconnect the wires and put the drum back on.

So, with that said, these'll work just fine to replace your original brakes.

I would recommend you reinforce the frame around where the axles will be for added strength. The brake hubs # 8-201-5UC3-EZ would fit the axles and the brake assemblies # 23-459 and # 23-458 would fit those hubs and the brake flanges of the Timbren.

  • Difference Between etrailer and Dexter Electric Brake Assemblies
Etrailer Electric Brake Assemblies like the 12", Self Adjusting # AKEBRK-7R-SA referenced in your question are different than Dexter Brake Assemblies such as # 23-459. The biggest difference is the brake pad material used. Etrailer brake pads use thicker material, and while most pads are "snapped" during the production process, the pads on etrailer's assemblies are cut. This ultimately results in a cleaner, crack free edge that will help extend the life of the brake pads. The matching...
