I have had this item installed for approximately one year on our 42 foot, 18,000 pound 5th wheel. It was easy to install and set up and has worked flawlessly ever since. We have put over 6,000 miles on the 5th wheel since the installation. I will definitely buy again if the need arises.

Its been another year and the parts are still functioning flawlessly.

by:

OEM Dexter parts well worth the cost. Brakes are very important in the scenarios I use my trailer. You definitely feel 6 brand new brake setups behind you! etrailer kept me well informed through the process on order status. Shipping was quick. Will be shipping etrailer for any of my trailer stuff going forward.

by:

Love the dexter brakes, however their packaging is inadequate. Out of the 4 brake assemblies I bought 2 of them were partially disassembled.

Quinn did sn excellent job on my order We compared pricing and informed me as to del8very times, I received email updates and was informed as to when to expect delivery. Oustanding and professional customer service, Highly recommend etrailer your trailer needs.

by:

Order was received timely. I had questions regarding a possible design change going from two spring to single spring. I contacted customer service and they replied swiftly. Not being sure of the answer the customer service rep. Conner contacted the manufacturer to determine proper answer. All is good , apparently Dexter has changed from 2 spring to single spring at the top. The attached pictures show what I am referring to. Look at the wiring in the faulty picture. Of course pulling the hub was my last thing I looked at. Hence why I was getting a ground short and no brakes.
etrailer customer service get A+++

by:

Exact replacement and easy to install.

by:

I had the brake lining shatter off of one of the shoes. This happened within the first 100 miles after putting the new brakes on. Tore the drum up beyond repair. Working on getting the brakes replaced under warranty but I had to ship them the parts back first. Trailer is up on blocks until then.

by:

Excellent product, exact replacement. Great customer service from etrailer, and product was delivered 3 days early. Thanks.

by:

One is what I had and the second is etrailer. All I ordered arrived in good shape. Everything fit perfectly. I will definitely use etrailer again soon!!
Thanks

Great. Product as advertised. Fit perfectly. Always use etrailer. Thanks again.

by:

Product was an exact fit. Much easier than fighting springs and hold downs even with the right tools. It took about 45 min. per wheel start to finish. Etrailer was very helpful when ordering parts.

by:

I needed an order change and paula took care of everything even shipping came day early so i could get trailer reinspected. Will be my only place to order trailer parts ETRAILER

Very well Etrailer came thru with the parts ias in dire need of in a timely manner. I needed brake assembliies and drums for my 5th wheel Etrailer researched and very quickly got me the needed parts Not all parts were Dexter but that was expained to me. And the substitues worked very well. I will be a returning customer for sure ss they were very helpful while ordering and thru checkout.

by:

Ordered lots of parts on Monday, received most of them by Thursday. The received parts were well packaged and undamaged. A few of the parts they didn't have in stock so they had those drop-shipped to me which should be delivered in the next couple of days.
No supplier I have ordered any parts from has such a great technical reference web site or personal customer support. Yea, Rebecca - Well Done! Yes, I'm very happy with the pricing.
Thanks for your great support and I look forward to doing business with them again. More info to follow as soon as I can get the parts installed on my trailer.

by:

Christina J thanks for all your help the brake assembly was delivered extremely quick and installed easily!

by:

You didn't have the brake assembly I wanted but had the 7k at a higher price. Was told there was no difference between the two. I bought the 7K but would like to know if there is no difference, why I was charged the higher price. I needed one so I didn't have much choice. Not Happy. I'll think twice and think again before purchasing from etrailer again.

by:

Worked well to replace grease covered shoes and magnet. Lower cost than replacing individual components.

by:

Easy to install. I have taken several trips since then. I would buy this product again from etrailer!

by:

Is what I needed, fit perfect. Just be sure to check the hardware is in place, I put it on and put the drum on and went to adjust and the adjuster was out of position and had to pull the drum back off.

by:

I had a dragging brake. When I disassembled, found bottom adjuster was dislodged and unattached spring. Magnet was very much melted. I reassembled the brake assembly good enough to travel to final designation. I ordered this brake assembly, p/N 23-465 for passenger side forward axle and it fit perfectly. I've driven approximately 3,000 miles since repair without issue. I highly recommend this product and company

by:

I was worried about putting brakes back together, this is an easy repair with only 5 nuts to put on and rewire. Information on getting the right or left brake was very good and made this an easy project.

Product installed easily. Much more efficient than replacing the parts I would have needed and less costly. Part used on a Dexter 7000 lb RV axle.

Working well, as it should but it is on a 5th wheel and doesnt have s lot of moles on it.

by:

Excellent customer service and the brake units work great!

I traded last summer for a new one but the brakes worked just fine.

by:

Replacement for 6000 lbs. original equipment brakes. Hoping for more stopping power as I usually tow near the limit of the trailer.
Installation was easy and straight-forward.
First impression is not much different but of course new brakes need to be burnished. The effectiveness is sure to increase. Overall happy :)

by:

Arrived in good condition. All new parts and easy to install. Only concern was that the wire to the magnets on the inside might get rubbed against by other parts or get pinched. I slipped small plastic hose over wires as extra protection. Be sure and follow instructions and and adjust brakes after installing hubs.

by:

Plug and play, towed a large 5th wheel with brakes that didn't work for years decided to try this , worked great!, Had Each wheel done in about 20 minutes I'll never just replace brake shoes Again... buy the kit bolt it on,,, walk away. Bought two more for the rear axle, if I don't have to crawl underneath and adjust them every Thousand Miles that will be icing on the cake

by:

Great price for a complete brake replacement. Way easier and not much more than just replacing the shoes. I upgraded from the 6000# that were on my fifth wheel to these 7000# ones. Also like the self adjusting feature.

  • Replacement Trailer Brake Assemblies for Dexter 7k Automatic Adjusting Assemblies
The brake assemblies you have are Dexter 12 inch assemblies with a 7k capacity. That means the current part numbers you would want are # 23-464 for the left hand side and part # 23-465 for the right hand side. The part # 23-464-465 that you referenced actually is both of these assemblies kitted together.

  • Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brakes Not Working on Camper
The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assemblies, such as # 23-465, require an initial adjustment, as you have done already. You are correct in your question when you stated that you will want to simply turn the wheel backwards on the brake assembly until you get just a slight drag. I have attached a video demonstration on the initial setup for these assemblies that you may find helpful. I recommend pulling the hub on your trailer to make sure everything is still properly in place with...

  • Dexter 7,000 lb Rated Brake Assembly Recommendation for Trailer
Dexter would be the final authority on the capacities of their axles. For 7k rated Dexter brake assemblies you would want the part # 23-465 for the right hand side and part # 23-464 for the left hand side. What you described is not uncommon for Dexter axles. There are other instances where the difference between the capacities of two axle setups is either the assemblies or the hubs they put on them.

  • Recommended Brake Assemblies for 7,000 Pound Trailer Axle, 2009 Heartland Bighorn 3370RL
It is best to confirm the axle capacity before purchasing brake assemblies. There should be a sticker or label on the axles with information such as their capacity. If you do find that your axles are 7,000 pound axles, I recommend using the Dexter 12 Inch Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly, left hand side # 23-464 and right hand side # 23-465. These brake assemblies automatically adjust to provide optimum performance and braking power. In addition to eliminating the need for brake adjustments,...

  • Can 7,000 lb Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Trailer Brakes be Used on 6,000 lb Axle
Yes, so long as your 6,000 lb Dexter axle has a 5-bolt brake mounting flange (which it should), then you can use the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - 12" - Right Hand - 7,000 lbs # 23-465. If you also need the left hand side the correct part number is the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - 12" - Left Hand - 7,000 lbs # 23-464.

  • Is it Okay to Use Nev-R-Adjust Brakes with Nev-R-Lube Hubs
As long as the brake assemblies you are replacing are 12x2, you can certainly use the Nev-R-Adjust brake assemblies. The brake assembly and the bearing system you are using would be unrelated, so there is no reason why you could not use the Nev-R-Adjust assembly. There is also no reason why you could not upgrade to the 7000 lb capacity assembly like the # 23-464 and # 23-465. The brake shoes will be better and the magnet will be a bit stronger.

  • How Do Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Drum Trailer Brake Assemblies Work
Besides the initial adjustment, which is not required but still recommended, you will not need to adjust the Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly, # 23-464, unless you wanted to. According to Dexter, during travel, the brakes will automatically rotate an adjuster assembly to close the gap caused by lining wear. The brakes will remain in the optimum braking adjustment for safer braking. The Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly for the right hand side is # 23-465.
