Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: Flange Wheel Nut

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this 5/8 inch by 18 size flange wheel nut. Now this flange wheel nut will fit the 5/8 inch by 18 size wheel studs for your hub-piloted dual wheels. Now a hub-piloted dual wheel will center on the hub of the vehicle or the trailer, and the lug holes do not have a bevel to them, so that's why it requires the use of this flange nut to hold the wheel in place. As we mentioned, the thread diameter on this is 5/8 inch by 18.

A few measurements on it. The overall flange diameter is right at 1 9/16 of an inch. Total length on this is right at 1 inch, and the size of the socket that would be used on this, it does require a 1 1/8 inch size socket for installation. But that should do it for the review on the 5/8 inch by 18 size flange wheel nut.

  • Lug Nuts Needed for a 16 Trailer Wheel
If you are looking for lug nuts for the 16" Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel - 16" x 6" - 8 on 6-1/2 - 4.75" Pilot - Silver Item # LHHA420 that you referenced then you need the 5/8" Flange Wheel Nut # 95188. For a standard 16" wheel like the Dexstar Silver Modular Trailer Wheel # AM20760 you would need a 60 degree coned lug nut like part # CE11050. For a vehicle you may need different lug nuts as trailers can sometimes use different lug nut sizes than passenger vehicles.

  • Could Provider 235/75R17.5 Radial Tire w/ 17-1/2 Wheel # TA56VR Easily Replace Trailer Wheel
The Provider 235/75R17.5 Radial Tire w/ 17-1/2" Solid Center Wheel # TA56VR that you referenced could easily replace what you have on your trailer but only if your current setup is hub-piloted and the current wheel has a center hole diameter of 4.76 inch. This wheel is held on with flange nuts that are 5/8 inch like part # 95188. If this is what holds your current wheels on and your pilot diameter hole is 4.76 inch this would work well as a replacement. I attached a review video for...

  • Can Standard Lug Nuts be Used With the Taskmaster TA69VR?
The Taskmaster Provider 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire w/ 17-1/2" Solid Center Wheel - Offset - 8 on 6-1/2 - LR H # TA69VR is designed to be used with and requires the use of flange nuts instead of the standard conical style lug nuts. Typically an 8,000 pound axle will use 5/8"-18 studs as the 1/2"-20 stud will usually denote a hub/drum that will be used on up to a 7,000 pound axle. With that being said, I recommend upgrading your hub/drum to go with this tire and wheel set-up. If you have brakes...

  • 16" Dual Wheel For Inner or Outer Mounting
We were not familiar with the term "coin in coin out" but are guessing that you mean the wheel can be used as an outer or inner wheel. If so we have the Dexstar # AM20783 16" Dual Wheel. Steen wheel with 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern and 4.75" pilot hole, powder coated white on a hub piloted design using Dexter Axle # 95188 flange wheel nuts. Select # AM20783 for white finish with 4.88" pilot. If you need a different wheel spec' just email me back with the details.

  • Does Dexstar Steel Dual Trailer Wheel # AM20790 Require Flange Nuts
With the Dexstar Steel Dual Trailer Wheel # AM20790 Dexstar requires the use of flange nuts in the size of 5/8"-18 like part # 95188. I can't recommend an acorn style of nut.

We have two options available for 5/8" flange nuts. We have the Flange Wheel Nut - 5/8" # 95188 with an overall flange diameter of 1-9/16" which is commonly used on hub-piloted trailer wheels. • Difference Between Dexstar Dual Wheel Part # AM20783 and Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel Part # LHHA420
The Dexstar Dual Wheel part # AM20783 and the Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel part # LHHA420 are two very similar wheels with a few key differences. They are both 16" diameter x 6" wide wheels with a 8 on 6-1/2" lug pattern. However, the Lionshead wheel has a 3,500 lb weight capacity whereas the Dexstar wheel only has a 3,100 lb weight capacity. Another noticeable difference is that the Dexstar wheel is made in the U.S.A. and the Lionshead wheel is not. In order to install either wheel you will...

  • What is the Correct Lug Nut to Use with a Wheel Retaining Ring on Dual Wheel Axles
As long as your dual wheel has a flat surface where the Flange Wheel Nut # 95188 would rest against, like what the Dexstar Dual Wheel # AM20790 has, then you would use this flange wheel nut in the place of a nut with a 90 degree cone. Attached is a review video of the flange wheel nut for you to check out. In the video we pull a wheel out to demonstrate the flat surface area the nut would install on. If you are using a wheel retaining ring, like the part # 33-52-1, then you would still...

  • Will 4.75 Pilot Hole Fit with 4.75 Hub for the Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20783
Generally if the hub has studs on it then it is stud piloted but if you secure the wheel to the hub using bolts then it is hub piloted. Since you are using dual wheels it changes things a little bit. The Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20783 that you referenced is designed to fit on a dual wheel setup that is hub piloted. This means that the studs come through the back side of the hub and extend through both wheels and you use a 5/8" flange nut, like part # 95188, to secure it. Hub...

  • Do I Need to Replace My Lug Nuts When Replacing Steel Wheels With Aluminum Wheels
Unless your current steel wheels use a flange wheel nut like the # 95188, you won't need to replace the lug nuts when you switch to the Aluminum Hi-Spec Series 6 Trailer Wheel # AM22652B. With that being said, if your current lug nuts are showing signs of corrosion, you may want to consider replacing them. If you do need to replace your lugs, for 1/2"-20 lug studs I recommend using the Americana Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - Stainless Steel - 1/2"-20 - Qty 1 # AM26NR for 1/2 inch lugs or Chrome...

  • Can the Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel # LHHA420 be Used on a 1976 Barth Motorhome with Alignment Ring
The Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel # LHHA420 is an excellent option for a replacement wheel on your 1976 Barth Motorhome. This wheel has a 5-1/2" offset and is hub piloted which means that it centers on the hub and not the lugs. For this application you need a flange wheel nut like part # 95188. What it looks like that alignment rings does it change the wheel from being hub piloted to lug piloted meaning that it centers on the lugs. This wheel has a 4.75" pilot diameter so if it doesn't...

What you'll want to torque those to will depend on the construction of your wheels and the size of the lug studs. I was able to find the Aluminum Hi-Spec Series 6 Trailer Wheel # AM22652B that is 15" in diameter and has a 4.13" pilot hole that may work for your application. First I recommend checking your hub to confirm if you have a hub centric or lug centric hub.
