Jeff: Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this replacement inner slide for the Dexter DX 7.5L disc brake actuator for 2-inch hitch balls. It has a 7,500 pound weight capacity. Now this is the replacement inner slide that'll fit into your existing outer housing on your Dexter DX 7.5L or the legacy UFP disc brake actuator. Basically this inner slide is the portion that will telescope inside the outer housing of your surge brake actuator upon breaking, and it applies the force to the master cylinder to supply hydraulic pressure to apply the brakes on your trailer. If you notice on this one, it uses a nice low-profile coupler latch to ensure nice, easy, secure connection.
This is an over center latch mechanism, which will only engage when the actuator's fully seated on your 2-inch hitch ball. And I want to demonstrate that, I happen to pull a 2-inch hitch ball that this would fit onto. And just to show you how to install this, you pull out this tethered safety pin right here that allow you to open the latch. If you look on top of the latch, it has this round portion that goes back and forth. If you just push that over it'll release it, and that'll open up your latch, just like that. And with your latch open, you can see that when you're over the 2-inch ball, it'll fall right into place, put your latch back down, and now you're hooked onto the ball.
And then for extra safety, slide this safety pin all the way through, and that'll keep the latch locked onto the ball. If by chance this does get hit or something and it unleashes it or unlatches it, that latch won't open all the way it'll still stay attached to the ball, and then you just push it back down. And then to totally remove it, just slide your safety pin back out, slide open your latch, and that'll open all the way, and you can remove it from the ball just like that. So it's a very simple way to connect and disconnect from your hitch ball. Also, if you notice it has this breakaway cable, which is included. Now this breakaway cable is required by law, this will attach to your tow vehicle.
And what this does is when it's attached, it will prevent a trailer runaway situation. So if this trailer happened to become detached from your tow vehicle, it would pull on this breakaway cable, which would then activate the master cylinder to apply the brakes on the trailer to prevent a runaway situation. Now, the master cylinder itself, let me flip this over and you'll be able to see it. Right here, this master cylinder is a constructed of aluminum rather than plastic or steel. It gives you a nice increased strength and corrosion resistance. And if you notice on the back of the master cylinder right here, you'll see it has the Selectric reverse lockout solenoid.
This will let you back up without actuating your trailer brakes. The solenoid, you can see the wires here is wired to your reverse light circuit, and it activates automatically when you shift into reverse. Again, the application on this is single axle trailers with disc brakes. The ball size we mentioned it fits on is a two inch diameter hitch ball. Weight capacity is 7,500 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this replacement inner slide for the Dexter DX 7.5L disc brake actuator, for 2-inch hitch balls. It has a 7,500 pound weight capacity..

This replacement inner member slide fits into the existing outer member housing of your Dexter DX7.5L and Legacy UFP surge brake actuator. For use with single-axle trailers with hydraulic disc brakes.Easy replacement. The brake line output from the solenoid was able to use the existing brake line hydraulic fitting. Many times replacement components do not factor this or are entirely a different size or type of hydraulic fitting. It was a bit tricky installing this new actuator and to keep all the shims and washers in their correct positions, but with some patience and persistence installation was completed. Snap ring pliers are a most. No cheating with needle nose, due to the force required. The electrical leads were long enough and of great quality (tinned copper wire, a tad over 16 gauge, but not 14 gauge). Will see how it holds up to the ultimate test of being used, other than that, great replacement and exact fit.
Perfect OEM fit/replacement for my boat trailer, easy to replace. You will need a second pair of hands though. My brakes work like they should, no issues. Hopefully this actuator will last 21 years like the original!
Exactly what I needed. Everything fit as described. Doing business with etrailer is always a pleasure. From help with ordering the correct parts to answering any questions, they alway have come through for me. Will definitely use them again when needed.
Direct replacement for my UFP actuator. Install was a little tricky. I couldn't screw on the brake line because the brake hose couldn't twist enough to screw it on. So I unbolted the entire tongue with the new actuator in it so I rotate the entire tongue to screw the brake line into the new actuator. Worked well. Actually didn't even need a wrench on the brake line. Bled the system with a power bleeder and no leaks noted. Seems great so far. Have not trailered the boat yet.
Perfect fit replacement for my 20 year old trailer's master cylinder and coupler. Snap ring pliers, wire strippers and connectors and a couple of wreches to hook up the brake lines are all you need to make a quick replacement. My old one needed a new shock absorber and back up solenoid. Installing a whole new unit made more sense and I'm really happy with his replacement.

A year with several long road trips 300+ miles and dozens of local trips and the actuator is still working like new.The only change Id like to see is the ability to use a more robust locking pin to secure the trailer. The small diameter pins that will fit through the coupler bend easily.
These guys are great, my purchase was straight forward but due to the amount of corrosion on my existing brake actuator I was having an extremely difficult time removing it. I called their help phone number included in the package and left a message on a Saturday afternoon. About an hour later a representative called me back and confirmed what I was doing was correct and gave me some ideas to aide the disassembly. The installation was a success!
I received the inner slide damaged. The inner slide was in a cardboard box with shipping paper. The hydraulic fitting was at a 45 degree angle to the fitting and 1/2 of the threads were damaged/pulled off where the fitting was threaded. In addition, I proactively requested help to verify my inner slide to ensure I was going to order the correct one. The one I received is not a direct replacement as the rear pin is no where near the correct location. The only way to potentially make it work is to drill a new hole through the trailer to accept the new slide.
I want to return this unit and get the correct replacement that will install without modifying my trailer.

SHIPPING WAS FAST AND GREAT FOLLOW UP AFTER THE SALE. I HAVEN'T INSTALLED THE PART YET BUT IT IS AN EXACT REPLACEMENT FOR MY BASS CAT BOAT TRAILER. I'M SURE IT WILL WORK AS WELL AS THE 17 YEAR OLD ORIGINAL.

The Dexter brake accuator is still doing what its supposed to. Installation was somewhat simple after removing some rusty parts from the original. New unit installed easily and works great after a good bleeding of the lines.
Shipment was delivered sooner than expected. Will be installing this weekend. I should have went this direction in the first place instead of just replacing parts within..

Product is on point and working as expected. I should have made this purchase previously before trying to do piece meal. Easy to install and much easier..
Kate did a great job and was very helpful! Thank you!
The service was fast and knowledgeable would use the next time I needed any trailer parts
Great product, easy to install. Poor shipping, the cardboard container was destroyed when it arrived. You can't put a heavy, solid metal object in a cardboard box with a handful of crumpled paper and think it will survive the delivery.
Customer service was amazing, actually got to speak to someone! That’s hard to find these days.. Very helpful and was able to answer all my questions, and the price was much lower than other places I looked, plus it had free shipping!
Perfect fit on a 1983 Ranger Trail Trailer, previously modified for disc brakes, and surge brake application.
Works as expected! Easy replacement even for a novice. Now a year later it is still living up to expextations.
Awesome price great quality, the people at etrailer don’t cut corners.quick delivery. Thanks Mark
Everything worked as you said. Bolted right in place. No problems at all.

Replacing an old actuator that wasn’t working properly looks to be 31 years old, should end with reviews that include, “amazing, works great, such a relief, should have done it sooner, and the peace of mind is well worth the money “. So accept those. I’d add, my first one did not function properly. I could not get it to apply pressure to the new disc brake assembly. I was near the end of etrailer’s return policy period, but they took the return and even sent out the new one before I had removed the “old” new one. Once I installed the replacement, pressure applied instantly and has been functioning as it should. My Mastercraft Prostar 190 on the trailer only weighs 2200 lbs, but I do feel relief and no consideration while towing. The product, and equally importantly—etrailer’s customer service makes this purchase a 4.95 star rating.
