Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Dexter 12 and a quarter inch self-adjusting left-hand hydraulic drum brake assembly with the parking brake lever for an 8,000 pound axle. Now, this is a hydraulic drum brake assembly. It's designed for use with surge type trailer, brake actuators. This one is a dual servo design.

So it has the dual plunger that'll deliver the same amount of braking when driving either forward or in reverse. This does use the self-adjusting brake system. You can see the cable here. That'll tell you that's self-adjusting and it attaches to the lever right down here that automatically adjusts your brakes. The self-adjusting brakes will automatically adjust to deliver optimum performance and braking power.

So there's no need for any manual brake adjustments. Once you install this, do your initial brake adjustment. From then on, it automatically adjust your brakes.And of course, proper adjustment will lead to better brake efficiency, less wear on your tow vehicles brakes. This one, as I mentioned, does include this parking brake lever. Now this is the left-hand driver's side brake assembly.

The mounting bolts, and the hardware to install this is not included. They are sold separately. They're usually listed on this product page as a related product. Now this is a left side assembly. And the way you can tell that is just look at the length of the pads on the shoes.

This pad goes from here to here. If you look at this one, it goes all the way from here to here. This is a longer pad. This one was the shorter pad. The shorter pad is the primary shoe. The primary shoe will always face the front of the trailer. So when you go to install this with this facing the front, it'll let you know that this is for the left side or driver's side of the trailer.Now this assembly is made in the USA. A few specs. Again, it's designed to fit the axle rating of 8,000 pounds. The dimensions on the brakes are always the diameter, which is measured from here to here. So there's your 12 and a quarter inch diameter. And the width is always the width of the pad on the brake shoe. So on this one, it's three and three eighths inches. The mounting flange bolt pattern. If I turn this around, you can see the four holes here. So it is a four bolt mounting flange bolt pattern. And the wheel size that will work on this assembly is a 15 inch or larger.
