Video Transcript for Review of Dexter Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly Dexter Model 10 20 Disc - T4749501042

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com, and today we're gonna take a brief look at this replacement master cylinder assembly. This is going to replace the master cylinder assembly for your Dexter Model 10 or Model 20 brake actuators, and this is going to work with disc brake applications only. And for drum brake applications, I am including our item number for the master cylinder assembly that will work for drum brake applications. You can just take that item number and put it in a search field of our website, and it will take you to that master cylinder assembly. And this includes the master cylinder, obviously, and everything needed to install in your actuator. You have your brass connector, and then you have your right hand cylinder mounting brackets and left hand cylinder mounting brackets.

And then you're going to get two of the 3/8 of an inch hex bolts, and then two 3/8 of an inch hex nuts with two 3/8 of an inch lock washers. And then of course the filler cap here. And on our cap it says here use only DOT type 3 brake fluid, just so you're aware of that. And then the mounting holes, center to center, we are sitting right at 4 and 3/4 inches center to center. Let me line that up there for you a little bit better.

There you go. 4 and 3/4 inches on those mounting holes center to center. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy.

Thank you for joining me.

Always an easy transaction

I recently purchased a master cylinder assy for my boat trailer. After receiving the part I noticed there was not a brass adapter fitting in the back of the master cylinder as shown in the picture and clearly stated in the product description that this part was included. I removed the brass brake line fitting from the old part but it was the wrong size. I called etrailer and spoke to Carol. It was a weekend so I was surprised someone answered the phone. Bottom line is Carol took care of me and within a few days the part showed up and the master cylinder is now alive and well where it needs to be....on my trailer. Thanks Carol....GREAT JOB

by:

As always the part came in a reasonably short time "FREE SHIPPING" and again as always just what I needed, I have bought just the master cylinder in the past from my local trailer parts dealer and it didn't come with a new boot or a new cap...etc. and by the time I removed, cleaned and transferred the spring assembly and mounting brackets I had way to much time invested in my project. Today it took not even 5 min to install this part to my hitch and it fit perfect. I truly believe that etrailer.com is the only way to go for any of your trailer needs.

After a year gone by everything works fine as it supposed to.Iam very happy with my trailer.Thank you etrailer

by:

Did a complete rebuild of trailer brakes that were just blocks of rust. Couldn’t have done it without the etrailer videos and OEM replacement parts. The Titan actuator fit perfectly, works great.

by:

Thank you to all at e-trailer and thank you for the master cylinder I ordered and a nice thank you to Wayne for calling back a message to me. I used a reverse bleeder and pushed the fluid from the calipers and got rid of the dirty fluid just before master then blead the master and soon I had four wheels braking nicely.
Thanks to all of you for making our vacation safer towing the boat.

Repalcement Part for a Titan model 20. Exactly as advertised

It was a replacement brake cylinder. Installed easily. Brakes now work as good as new. There have been no issues.

by:

Wow, the packaging was the worst I have ever seen... Were they trying to be funny? A master cylinder just bouncing around in a box with the 2 grease seals, nothing protected with packaging, just rattling around in there. Lucky for me the parts in the box, and poking through the side of the box when it arriver were all ok. Glad I was in a good mood, I found it funny this time.

by:

The product pictured matched my old unit exactly. Received item in a reasonable time. Was able to install the new unit with no problems. I need to complete reworking the rest of the brake system before I can test but so far everything looks great.

by:

Excellent product price and service

  • Troubleshooting Master Cylinder T4749501042 Not Releasing Fluid When Installed on My Trailer
Sounds like there could be a few things happening. Your coupler could not be depressing the piston of the master cylinder, your coupler has an electric lockout, or the master cylinder is bad. Let's start with checking the coupler to make sure its getting enough pressure to the master cylinder piston, I recommend taking your safety chains from the trailer around the coupler and hook them up closely to the hitch of your vehicle, this way you will be able to use about a 4 foot 2x4 board...

  • Can a Titan Model 10 Actuator for Drum Brakes be Converted to Disc Brakes
Yes, you can swap out the master cylinder of your Titan model 10 actuator to the part # T4749501042 that you referenced so that it would operate a set of disc trailer brakes.

  • Can a Titan Model 10 Actuator for Drum Brakes be Used with Disc Brakes
The part # T2478100 is indeed designed for use on trailers with drum brakes. The master cylinder of the actuator is designed for lower pressure drum brakes. What you can do is swap out the master cylinder of the actuator with the part # T4749501042 and it would be compatible with disc brakes.

  • Can Titan Model 10 Actuator be Converted to Disk Brakes from Drum
Since you have a Titan Model 10 actuator for drum brakes you can convert them to disc. You can swap out the master cylinder of your Titan model 10 actuator to the part # T4749501042 and you would have a disc brake setup. Now to determine the rest of the parts needed requires a bit more information. We need to find the hubs that will fit the spindles of your trailer. I attached a help article that will walk you through that process.

  • Can Master Cylinder be Accessed From Front Of Titan/Dexter Model 10 Disc Brake Actuator
No, you'll need to access the master cylinder from the rear of your Titan (now Dexter) Model 10 disc brake actuator. To replace it use the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly # T4749501042, and I have linked a video below which shows how to do so, and accessing/installing it from the rear of the actuator.

  • Is Titan 10,000 Pound Brake Actuator Compatible with Kodiak Stainless Steel Disc Brakes
For your brake actuator to be compatible with your Kodiak stainless steel brakes, the actuator will need to be a disc brake actuator. Kodiak only makes disc brakes. If your actuator is a drum brake actuator, not a disc brake actuator, it will not be compatible with the Kodiak disc brakes. If your Titan actuator is made for disc brakes, it will work well with your Kodiak brakes. The Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Dexter Model 10 and Model 20 Brake Actuators part # T4749501042 is designed for Titan Model 10 and 20 Surge Brake Actuators for disc brakes. If you have drum brakes you'll need to use the part # T2374600 instead. I'm not sure what surge brake actuator you have but if you can let me know I'd be glad to try and confirm this for you. If you are unsure, look for any markings stamped into the coupler and or send some photos my way.

  • Will the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly # T4749501042 Work on a Cronkhite Trailer
If the master cylinder from your brake actuator on your Cronkhite trailer has the numbers 23744 stamped on the side, then it probably uses a Titan model 10 or model 20 brake actuator. To ensure that you select the correct replacement master cylinder assembly, we will need to know if your trailer has disc brakes or drum brakes. The easiest way would be to know the part number, but if you need a master cylinder replacement you actually don't need to know if your Titan actuator is a Model 10 or Model 20 because the master cylinder replacements we carry can be used for either. If you have a drum brake actuator you would need the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 10 and Model 20 Brake Actuators # T2374600. • Does The Master Cylinder Assembly Need Removed Before Welding Actuator # T4830300?
I do recommend removing the Master Cylinder Assembly # T4749501042 from the Dexter Brake Actuator # T4830300 before welding it in place. This will ensure you do not melt the inner boot on the front of the master cylinder. This assembly is only held in place by 4 bolts and removes easily.

  • How to Modify Drum Brake Actuator Coupler for Use with Disc Brakes
Brake fluid pressure requirements for disc and drum brakes are too different to allow use of a disc actuator on drum brakes. Disc brakes typically need 1500-psi while drums need about 1000-psi. Brake proportioning valves do exist but we do not sell them. From a safety standpoint we do not like to recommend using a device like that. We always recommend using the appropriate actuator for the type of brakes on the trailer. Some actuators can take either drum-brake-pressure master cylinders...

  • No Brake Fluid Pumping on Model 60 Actuator With New Master Cylinder
It is not uncommon for fluid not to come out of the master cylinder initially with new actuators or actuators that have a new master cylinder; the issue will likely resolve itself after being actuated a few times. I also recommend checking for any clogs in the brake line as there should be fluid moving through the line even with it being disconnected from the brakes.

  • Can Drum Brake Actuator Be Used Temporarily on Trailer with Disc Brakes
The problem with using a drum brake actuator with disc brakes is that it's not going to supply enough pressure to fully engage the assemblies. Drum brake actuators typically put out around 1,000 to 1,200 psi (sufficient for drum brake assemblies) but disc brake systems require around 1,600 psi, thus an actuator specifically designed for them. Because of this your braking power is going to be greatly reduced with your current setup. With a tandem axle trailer this could cause some issues,...
