Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: Solenoid Shield for Dexter Model 60 Trailer Brake Actuators

Today we're going to take a look at the Titan zinc-plated solenoid shield for the Titan model 60 trailer-brake actuators. This is a nice corrosion-resistant cover that'll bolt on to the rear of your Titan model 60 actuator, to protect the electric reverse lockout valve. The zinc plating will help resist corrosion. Just to show you where this will attach, I happened to pull a Titan model 60 actuator. You can see this one already has the solenoid valve attached to it. Basically you can see it ...

now this one I've added to it, it didn't come with the solenoid vale, but I just added it. You want to protect it so nobody steps on it or breaks it. All you have to do is remove the 2 screws right here, and then remove this cover that comes on the actuator. Then this solenoid shield, basically what you will do is you will need to remove the 2 screws up on the top here. Just bolt those 2 on there, then you just bend it down till those 2 screws line up. Once you have that, that'll give you protection of the solenoid valve so it doesn't get damaged.

It's well worth adding this onto if you have a solenoid valve at the back of your actuator. That should do it for the review on the Titan zinc-plated solenoid shield for the Titan model 60 brake actuators.

No issues with etrailer!!! This cover needs to be longer to cover the potential of a longer tube having to be installed to the existing trrailer brake line.

Had to add another plate to protect the oil line from being hit/bent when getting on and off the boat. Part of the reason is that the new brake master cylinder was longer and I had to add a new line that required a large bend radius to get it to fit with the current brake line from the trailer.

by:

The part is a bit shorter then I expected. So, I have add and do some modifications with the old shield

by:

Easy to install

by:

Very satisfied with the speedy delivery and customer service over the phone with everything that I have been ordering from e-trailer. Thanks for everything

Perfect

by:

This is a must for adding the lockout valve as it protects the valve. It fit perfectly. You do need to make the bend at the top
But a 4 in vice made it easy.

by:

Exactly what I needed. I changed my brakes from drum to disk with a Dexter kit from ETrailer. I also had to buy a reverse lockout solenoid so the brakes would not try to lock up when I back up. This part allowed me to cover the solenoid and basically converted my actuator to disk brake actuator once I changed the master cylinder. It was much cheaper to convert mine then by a complete new unit.

by:

With much advice from etrailer, I completely rebuilt my boat trailer brake system. I mean completely, starting with a Titan actuator, then new brake lines, and finally , new disc brakes on the rear axle. etrailer is the best. If you have a question, call them!!! They will find the right answer .

by:

The Solenoid Shield was a perfect fit for my Titan 60 hitch conversion. This combined with the solenoid actuator and 6' cable with 7 way connector resulted in a clean upgrade to my trailer brake system. No more issues with brake lockup backing up an incline.
Shipping was quick. As always very happy with my order

by:

Great product prevents me form breaking brake line. Thanks.

by:

This is the third time I have used etrailer for parts. They have delivered on time(or earlier) every order. They're reps have also been excellent in helping with tech questions. The parts have worked exactly as advertised. I will not hesitate to use them again when the need arises.

by:

I converted my master cylinder by adding a back up valve. The cover fit as it was advertised

by:

This product was not specifically designed for my coupler but I made it work. I wasn't sure what series I had so I ordered wrong cover shield.

by:

All the products that I purchased from e trailer have been sent in a timely fashion and the quality and price are great

No problems will continue to purchase items from your company.

Thanks

by:

It looks good but it is too small for my trailer so I will have to make some adaptation to the trailer

by:

It worked fine.

by:

All three products meet my expectations and the service I received when ordering them and having them shipped was excellent. Keep up the good work.

by:

Fit as expected, good replacement option for original.

by:

covers and protects the solenoid

  • Parts Needed to Repair Brake Line Connection on Titan Model 60 Hydraulic Trailer Coupler
It looks like that is a piece of flexible brake line you are using. You would need standard flexible brake line with a 3/8 inch male fitting. We offer them in varying lengths. A 13 inch long brake line with fittings (male on one end, female on the other) is available as part # T0777300, 18-25/32 inch length as part # T0776500 or a 25 inch long line is available as part # T0980100. If you do not already have one installed, I would recommend a solenoid shield, part # T4835800183 to protect...

  • Parts Needed To Convert Titan Model 60 Drum Brake Actuator To Work On Disc Brakes
To convert your Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum # T43397007K to Disc # T47457007K you will need to change out the Master Cylinder Assembly # T4820000. If you do not already have a Reverse Lockout Solenoid # T4748800 you will want to add that as well since there are no free backing disc trailer brakes. A Solenoid Shield # T4835800183 will protect the solenoid if you do not have one. Using a disc brake kit like the Kodiak # K2R35S will reduce rusting as the rotors and calipers...

  • Comparing Demco and Titan Disc Brake Actuators with Electric Lockouts
That is a tough question to answer as both are excellent manufacturers with their respective pros/cons. In regards to brake actuators, they both make and manufacture them here in the U.S.A. and they both come with a one year warranty. In regards to differences, Demco makes a wide range of different trailer and towing products whereas Titan specializes more in trailer brakes. WIth that being said we have had more positive feedback from Titan products in regards to trailer brakes, actuator...

  • 7,000 lb Hyudraulic Actuator for Drum Trailer Brakes with Trailer Brake Lock Out for Backing Up
The Titan Brake Actuator, # T43397007K, that you referenced does not include a lockout system for backing your trailer. If you have a surge brake actuator that works well but doesn't have an electric lockout solenoid, # T4748800, can be added to allow you to back the trailer the same as adding it would work with the new actuator. Along with the solenoid you will need a shield, # T4835800183, to protect the solenoid from damage, and you will need to upgrade the 4-Way connector on your...

  • Can Replacement Solenoid Valve, # T4748800 be Used on a Titan Model 60 Trailer Brake Actuator
Yes, the Replacement Solenoid Valve, # T4748800, will fit the Model 60 Titan Actuator. We have learned that in order to attach this solenoid to the master cylinder, the fitting that is currently on the master cylinder will need to be removed and the solenoid threaded directly on in its place. You will also probably want to keep the solenoid covered. Actuators that come with the electric lock out already have a cover in place. But, you can add it on with part # T4835800183.

  • Recommended Replacement Brake Actuating Surge Coupler for Atwood 85778
Thanks for the photo. That is a great help for getting you the correct replacement. I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator - Drum Brakes - Zinc Plated - 2" Ball - 7,000 lbs # DM72VR for a zinc plated option. This coupler does not have the reverse lockout, so you will need to add it using the Replacement Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts # T4748800 and the shield # T4835800183. We don't have any Atwood replacement master cylinders any longer...

  • Can a Reverse Lockout Solenoid Be Added to an Actuator That Does Not Have a Lockout Solenoid
Yes, you can add a solenoid valve to your brake actuator on your trailer to prevent the brakes from locking up when in reverse as long as you have the standard 3/16 inch brake lines on your trailer. This valve will attach between the master cylinder and your brake line and it will wire into the reverse light circuit on your trailer. Once your vehicle is put in reverse the solenoid valve closes and prevents pressure from reaching the brakes. Make sure that when you are backing up that...

  • Can a Reverse Lockout be Added to a Surge Brake Actuator That Doesnt Have a Lockout
Yes, you can add the Replacement Solenoid Valve # T4748800 to the Titan Adjustable-Channel Brake Actuator # T1891100. This will make it so that when you put your vehicle in reverse your trailer will not lock the brakes on you as long as you are using 3/16 inch brake lines. You will also want to make sure that you protect the solenoid. You can use part # T4835800183 to do so.

This does not include the electric lockout solenoid # T4748800. The brake line fittings will be the same. The Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - 2" Ball - Zinc Plated - 7,500 lbs # 099-175-00 is also a great replacement option, and you can add the Replacement Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts # T4748800 to this...

  • Does Drum Brake Master Cylinder Need to be Replaced with Atwood Master Cylinder for Disc Brakes
I spoke with the Titan, who confirmed that the master cylinder # T4820000 is indeed the correct replacement when switching from drum to disc brakes. Because hydraulic disc brakes operate at a higher pressure (1,500 psi) than drum brakes (1,000 psi), the master cylinder used for your current drum brakes won't deliver the required pressure to effectively actuate disc brakes. If your current Titan Model 60 doesn't have the electric lock-out feature that defeats the brakes when the vehicle's...

  • Lock Out Recommendation for Titan Trailer Actuator part # T43397007K
The Titan Leverlock Brake Actuator, # T43397007K, that you referenced does not include a lockout system for backing your trailer, but an electric lockout solenoid, # T4748800 will fit and work well to give you a lock out. With just these two parts you'd be set. I also recommend using a shield # T4835800183 to both protect and give the finished look.

  • How to Wire Titan # T4748800 Reverse Lock-Out Solenoid Valve
The Titan Replacement Reverse Lockout Solenoid you mentioned is extremely easy to wire. The solenoid has two wires exiting it. One wire grounds to the trailer tongue, the other would connect to the reverse light circuit on the tow vehicle. Once wired, the solenoid will close when the tow vehicle is shifted into reverse, preventing the trailer brakes from applying when the trailer is backed. Since it sounds like both your vehicle and trailer have a 4-pole connector, you'll need to install...

  • Can 4-Pole to 7-Way Adapter Be Used for Boat Trailer With Surge Coupler
You're correct, an adapter like the # 30717 would work fine for you, although I'd personally go with the # 37185 as it has a 4-pole connector as well. Initially, you'd just plug the adapter into your 4-pole, ground the white wire to the truck frame and you'll be good to go. Once you add the solenoid like # T4748800 and the protective shield # T4835800183 (because you just know you'll trip on it and snap it off while stepping over it if you don't) you can tap that purple wire on the adapter...

  • Do I Need To Install A Brake Controller To Activate Or Deactivate Surge Trailer Brakes In Reverse?
Great question. Let me cover brake activation first. If you wish to have active braking on a hydraulic system when backing up, you would need to have Electric over Hydraulic brakes and not a surge brake coupler. Surge brake couplers do not allow active braking when in reverse. To add the electric over hydraulic system, it will require a brake controller like # 39523 and an electric over hydraulic brake actuator like the HydraStar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc...

  • Is a Reverse Electric Lockout Needed on a Boat Trailer with Titan Model 60 Actuator
The issue is that with the way a surge coupler works when backing up, normally up hill, the trailer is pushing the other way which will cause the actuator to compress in sending fluid back to engage the brakes. This makes it very difficult or impossible sometimes to back the trailer up. There are 2 kinds of lock outs to prevent this, a manual which is built into an actuator and prevents the coupler from pushing in, and there is the electric type. It will energize when the vehicle is placed...
