Shank offers up to a 7" rise and a 3" drop for your Equal-i-zer weight distribution system. Measures 18" long and fits 2" x 2" trailer hitches.Easy switch over to longer shank . No major adjustments on WDH setting Now can open tailgate all the way. Did need to lengthen safety chains.
I needed the extra length of this hitch shank to get my trailer hitch ball out from under the spare tire on my Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. It works absolutely perfectly and is built extremely strong. I am using with an Equal-i-zer hitch system, but would be suitable for most other weight distributing hitch configurations if the centering between the adjustment holes is correct for your ball mount.
It works great. I bought this longer shank so I could drop the tailgate of my truck with the camper attached. It is compatible with my fastway E2…..same bolt pattern. It moved the ball 6” farther out from the truck. I also took the combo for a test drive, gmc 1500 CarbonPro and Apex Nano 213, and I really could not feel any difference, which is perfect.
Allows me to tow a travel trailer with my tailgate down (2011 Ram). I did not notice any difference in feel when towing compared to my previously shorter shank. There is no issue with the travel trailer hitting the tailgate- the length is perfect. This is much safer than using a hitch extender. The bolt pattern mated to my existing Husky brand hitch head.
I'm now able to open the tailgate of my truck with the trailer attached. Side effects of using the longer shank are; power cable almost too short and original safety chains were too short and had to be replaced. But, the goal to be able to open the tailgate with the trailer attached was accomplished.
I have a 2500 gmc sierra short bed and travel trailer. We purchased a golf cart and wanted to take the cart with us as when camping sites allow golf carts. Since my bed is 78" long I have to take the front cover of the cart off ( ezgo rxv) and I have to remove the tailgate because there is not enough room to lower it because of my trailer's electric Jack stand. My original equalizer weight distribution shaft is 12" so this gives me an extra 6" so I can leave my tailgate on and down. I no longer need to take the front cover off of the cart and the rear wheels are completely on the truck. Thanks George
The new shank appears to meet all my needs. I will be able to lower my tailgate when hooked up to my Travel Trailer. I'm excited to try it out on our first camping trip in April. The adjustment was easy to match the necessary height for my hitch head that receives the stabilization bars. Tiara on the order desk was friendly, patience and helpful. Thanks, etrailer.
I tow a 21 foot bumper pull camp trailer with a 2011 Chevy Suburban. With the standard length shank in my Equalizer hitch I couldn't open my rear lift gate when hooked up as the gate would strike the power head on my tongue jack. This shank gave me the length I needed for proper clearance. I have used it extensively during 2021 and it works great and is exactly what I needed. Great product!
Heavy Duty product was as expected. The etrailer Customer Service and follow up was top notch! Awesome Company to do business with!
Bought this longer shank because I knew is would benefit me immensely last year as we prepared for about two weeks on the road, traveling from NM to our many destinations in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. I tow a fairly light Jayco Hummingbird 17RK, behind a 2018 Toyota Tundra....and this solved the problem of not being able to lower my tailgate all the way, as the previous "stock" shorter shank caused the tailgate to hit the electric tongue jack on the trailer. I wanted to be able to move heavy items (these days it's all heavy) in and out of the truck bed without herniating myself lifting over the bed walls and/or unhooking from the trailer and moving the truck out of the way of the tongue jack for clearance to lower the gate. Perfect solution! And, now with the added convenience of not having to un-hitch on short stops overnight, when we just want to get in the trailer after a long day of driving, before resuming the next day's travels in the morning, is a real bonus. And, this shank is "solid" steel....no channel iron that might be compromised by the load and twisting that's going to occur at all speeds while hooked up. A few extra inches between tow vehicle and hitch didn't compromise the solid connection between the two units....no extra sway or problems with handling and maneuvering, whatsoever. Thanks, etrailer.com---this was money very well spent!
The Eqaulizer Weight Distribution Shank is very solid and well built. Everything fit perfectly.
With this new shank I can leave my tailgate down to haul my golf cart and still tow my rv.
This shank was a replacement for etrailer's first recommendation, RP54998, which was too short for my needs, which I returned last week. I reordered an Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank - 18" Long - 7" Rise, 3" Drop, which came today and will work in my application. It is also beautiful, just as a shank should be. IMO, etrailer excels in customer service.
As always, everything I order from etrailer.com comes fast and exceeds my expectations!! I have ordered many things from this company in the past, and will continue to in the future!! I will recommend them to everyone I know, thanks again!!
Thanks to this hitch extension on the equalizing hitch I can open the barn doors on my GMC Suburban (with my airstream trailer attached ) Great product with fast shipping. Highly recommended!
Made it so I can lower my tailgate. Wish it came in. 15” length as 18” is overkill for what I needed.
Just what I was looking for to be able to hook up my camper and leave my tailgate down with plenty of clearance, definitely glad I found this product
This 18” shank worked great for extending the space in order for me to be able to lower the tailgate on my 2022 Silverado 2500 while the camper is connected.
This hitch was exactly what I needed. I got it just in time. Thank you for all your products you have in stock. I will use etrailers for all my purchases.
this was just the right thing I needed
The product works but the shipping needs some improvement. The packaging did not hold.
I had a very unusual situation in that I had installed a motorcycle loader in my Tundra which extended the ramp and cycle 2 feet beyond the bed of the truck. When I attempted to hookup to my travel trailer there was not enough distance from the rig in the truck to the jack and propane bottles so after trying a few options etrailer sent me this long (18" shank) and it fixed my problem. I have since sold that rig and am back to a shorter shank but this worked great. Put the trailer way back but still pulled nicely.
I needed to extend my WD Shank so I could open my tailgate. It did what I wanted and is as strong as the original. Only draw back is the hitch sticks out farther when not towing. When at the camping site I remove the hitch and stow it under the A-frame with the HITCHPORT. I cover it with a power jack bag to keep from brushing against it.
I have ordered from etrailer numerous times, and have yet to be even the slightest disappointed -- they are always fantastic and ship fast! This particular product allows me to open the tailgate of my truck with my travel trailer hooked up and not worry about hitting the trailer jack. Swap out was easy -- replaced the shank from my Fastway e2 with this shank from Equal-i-zer -- direct swap of components. To anyone reading this review -- do remember to also lengthen or get longer safety chains if you upgrade to a product like this!
