Video Transcript for Review of Fastenal 1/4 Inch Self-Tapping Screw - FA1131822

Hi, there. I'm Michael with Today we're gonna take a quick look at this self-tapping screw. This is a one and a quarter inch long self-drilling screw. And you can see it does have an unslotted hex washer head here. This does have quarter inch, 14 by 30, or three quarter inch long threads.

And so this is gonna be great for grounding wires with a quarter inch diameter ring terminal. This does have a zinc coating for corrosion resistance, so it will hold up well for you. So if you are needing to replace, or add, a self-tapping screw, this is gonna be a great option for you. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with

Thanks for watching.

Self-Tapping Screw - 1/4" -14 x 3/4" Long - Zinc - FA1131822

Excellent product and fast service. Definitely will buy from them again for all my trailer needs.

Worked well on my boat trailer for mounting lights on metal frame. If you have never used self tapping metal screws the secret to making the process quick and easy is to drill a pilot hole just slightly smaller in diameter than the screw threads. If your drill bits are not the sharpest in the world another tip is to start with a smaller bit and then use successive larger bits until the hole is slightly smaller than the screw.

After one year of exposure to the elements an being in and out of water at boat ramps, and traveling some fairly rough roads to reach boat ramps, these fasteners are still securely in place.

Did the job of installing new jacks.

Exactly what I needed to rewire a 20-year-old trailer that was starting to show it's age with inconsistent lighting performance and continuity issues. In addition to purchasing this lighting harness, I upgraded all my incandescent bulb side markers and taillights with LED units and complete rewired the trailer. etrailer had everything I needed in one place with excellent pricing and superb service. Everything is working great and I love the brightness and visibility of the LED lights.

I was worried that the screws might of been lost as the box the order came in was really beat up. But nope they were there.

Used 8 of these screws to attach two scissor jacks onto my pop-up frame. These worked just as expected

Good for what it is, but note that these are too short to go through, say, tie-down racks then plywood sidewalls, and into the metal framing of a utility trailer. The picture does not really show the relative length of the threaded part and the drilling part for this length screw.

Worked as expected. Good solid quality. I did drill a small pilot hole in my trailer first to assist the speed of installation.

I am very happy with the quality of the products and the service! Most of all I want to compliment you on the instructional videos included in your websit. They are simple to follow, informative and answered several questions I had about the products and the installation. I will definitely be back when needed and highly recommend!!

A little bit on the high side, when you need them you need them

  • Can the Zinc Self-Tapping Screw Be Used on a Steel Frame
You are correct to a degree. When using the Self-Tapping Screw (Zinc) # FA1131822 to ground to a steel frame, it comes down to what type of steel the frame is constructed of. The Self-Tapping Screw (Zinc) # FA1131822 is ok to be used with galvanized steel and stainless steel. The only steel that could cause issues would be non-galvanized steel.

  • Recommendation for Attaching Aluminum Diamond Plate Flooring to Utility Trailer
To attach the aluminum diamond plate to the floor of your utility trailer, you can use self-tapping screws like # FA1131822 or something longer depending on how thick the aluminum is. I recommend using one about every square foot if possible. These particular self-tapping screws are 1-1/4 inches long and have 1/4 inch - 14 x 3/4 inch long threads. If you will be attaching the diamond plate to the metal grate on your trailer, you will need some type of anchor or lag bolts.

  • Can Self Tapping Screw Be Used to Ground Trailer Wiring to Frame
Yes if you used a self-tapping screw like the part # FA1131822 you could use it to ground trailer wiring to a frame. Sometimes aluminum trailer frames aren't quite adequate so you may need to run a jumper wire to the main ground wire of the trailer wiring.

All plugs and converters needed for the wiring harness to combine your vehicle's separate wiring system are included. You can use the 1/4" Self-Tapping Screw # FA1131822 to secure the 5/16" Diameter Coupler Pin w/ Chain # 37201181 to your trailer. Just run it through the last link in the chain and be sure to avoid going through any parts of the coupler that have something on the other side that could be damaged.

  • Troubleshooting Pin Removal for Hitch Ball Change on Andersen Rapid Hitch Ball Mount
It sounds like the Rapid Hitch Adjustable Aluminum Ball Mount Kit - 2 Zinc Balls - 5-1/2" Drop, 6-1/2" Rise # AM3411 has dirt or debris binding the pin. Since this pin simply drops in place as you can see in the attached video, the best way to remove the pin is to use some penetrating oil around that pin and then using movement to allow the oil to find its way to the bound location. I recommend using a rubber mallet to give vibration and movement to the pin while trying to twist the hitch...

  • Hardware for Securing E-track to Wood Trailer Floor
The # TF01150 screw is meant to fasten a wood floor to a trailer, it wouldn't be my choice for attaching E-Track to a wood floor. I'd use 1/4 inch diameter lag bolts whose length is a bit less than the thickness of the floor. How many bolts you need would depend on what you're using the E-track for. I'd probably want a bolt fastening the track about every 12 inches or so, maybe closer together for a heavier load. Use a self tapper like # FA1131822 to attach to the steel floor supports.

  • Can Replacement Awning Fabric Be Secured With Screws Instead of Rivets
Yes, you can remove the rivets and use some self tapping screws to secure the # LCV000334398 and complete the installation. If you watch the video attached below starting at the 10 minute mark you will see where they used the # FA1131822 to finish installing the replacement fabric.

  • What Size Mounting Bolt Should be Used for Pollack Mounting Bracket # PK11771?
The diameter of the top mounting hole on # PK11771 is 5/8 inches long by 5/16 inches wide. This means that a 1/4 inch bolt would work great to attach this mounting bracket like the self tapping # FA1131822. I have linked the above mentioned products to this page for your convenience.

  • What Screws To Use When Installing E-track To the Side Of Aluminum Trailer Frame
Zinc plated screws are going to be the best option for use with aluminum to resist galvanic corrosion. This corrosion you are referring to is from two dissimilar metals reacting so you want to use the most similar metals when installing your E-track to the side wall aluminum frame trailer. It is always safest to add a rubber or sealant to keep the metals as separate as possible even when they are compatible metals. Many times self tapping screws like # FA1131822 are the best solution.

  • What Fasteners Should Be Used To Attach the CE Smith Crossmember Pad
I do have an option for you but the cross member in your attached photo appears to be made of steel tubing which means there would be no access inside to attach a rivet for the CE Smith Crossmember Pad part # CE16870. That said, there are plenty of other fasteners you can use to attach these. I recommend standard self-tapping screws like part # FA1131822 as this will be easiest.

  • Screws to Use with the Wire Loom Clamp part # A0500
You would want to use some self-tapping screws like the part # FA1131822. These would not require you drill a pilot hole. Just line the screw up where you want it through the Loom part # A0500 and let the drill bit end of the screw drill the needed hole and the threads will pull it through and secure it.

  • How to Remove Old Stripped Screws from Trailer Baggage Door Catch
Your best bet is a special drill bit often called a screw extractor. One such product is called an EZ Out. These can be found at your local hardware store and are available in various sizes. They will bite into the stripped-out screw head and allow you to remove it and install a fresh screw. An application of an aerosol lubricant like WD40 is not a bad idea either as this will help to loosen up the old screw. • Self Tapping Screw Recommendation for Installing Exterior Light on Trailer
Self tapping screws like the part # WLS100 which has a Torx head or a part # FA1131822 which is a hex head style bolt would work well. We don't normally see people seal the lights to the trailer as most light assemblies are a weather proof or waterproof design and don't require it. For a sealant we recommend the # 0160297 for sealing trailer roof vents. This would work well for a light assembly as well.

Yes, from the specs available to me it appears your 2007 Cruiser RV Fun Finder FB189 has a dry weight of little more than 2,700 lbs. with another 3,000 lbs. plus cargo weight available; that's a lot for a smaller trailer. The etrailer Scissor Jacks with Handle and 24" Lift, # e99012, are rated for 5,000 lbs. per jack so this will work as a replacement even if you max out the 3,000 lb. cargo weight. The Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit part # 18SI-BLKIT doesn't come with hardware for the liner holders. The reason for this is that the exact hardware you need will vary by application and preference. In most cases, self-tapping screws will be best but other times you may want to drill and bolt the line in place.
