Video Transcript for Glacier Multi Arm Rubber Adjusters Review

AJ: What's up, everybody It's AJ with Etrailer.com. Today we're going to check out this multi-arm rubber adjuster for your tire chains. Now this is from Glacier Chains. What you're going to do is you're going to put this on your chain that might be kind of loose and not fitting super tight to your tires before you add the adjusters but you can see with the adjusters, nice and tight, I can barely move that chain at all. Let's check them out.So now we're going to remove the adjuster. This one's pretty tight, you do have to pull on it just a little bit to slide it out, which is a good thing.

Now they're removed, you can see what I'm talking about. I can easily pull on this chain, it moves around. You don't want that happening while you're driving on the road.Just so you know, these come in three different sizes, this is the passenger car size, you can also get light truck and heavy truck. So make sure you get the right adjuster for the right chains for the right vehicle. Now I'd like to show you another option that's a rubber adjuster that we offer. There's this one, that's kind of this rubber ring with these hooks that go around it and it's different already because there's no arms and the hooks you can remove too.

So that's one thing that's kind of against it is that these can pop off. And I like that they're attached on this one. You don't have to worry about them ever popping off. So if I accidentally pop this one off or a couple of them and I go to use this at the last minute and it's missing those hooks, I'm out of luck. It's not going to tension these chains and that's not going to help me when I'm driving. Now versus that, this one's altogether and it's got these rubber arms and I've seen them break before but you're not going to put them through as much as we've put them through.

We test fit tire chains all day long some days and so these get a lot of use, more use than you probably would, using it for driving a couple times a year, if that's what you use it for, they're going to hold up just fine. But that's also one of the negatives with this. But I still prefer this style over this style just because it's all together, it's complete. I can throw it in the back of the car and know that all the parts I need are going to be there when I need them.So as you saw, this works very well at getting that tension on these chains that might be loose like this and shouldn't be driving on them. This is going to be that solution that pulls them nice and tight and keeps it all together when you're not using it, that way it's easier to find, throw them on the chains and you get on your way in the snow and ice.Well thanks for hanging out.

I hope this helped.

I have a 2012 Ram 1500 4x4 with 265 70r17 all terrain tires (general grabber atx). These chains are heavily built, and came conveniently packaged. I bought them as insurance for an upcoming elk hunt where I will be in the mountains during potential snow. Fit them in my driveway yesterday, and hope to not need them for the real thing, but feel better knowing they are there.

by:

Bought the Glacier v-bar chains for the rear tires in extreme conditions and the Titan cable chains for lighter duty, also to be installed on the rear tires. Videos show that the cable-chains can be installed on the front tires of a 2020 or greater Toyota Tacoma, though not recommended by the owner’s manual. These cables are S-class compatible so they should work on the front tires, however caution should be taken as appropriate. I would recommend only installing on the front tires after the v-bar chains have been installed on the rear tires and extra traction is deemed worthy.

Both the Glacier and Titan multi-arm adjusters were ordered in support of the chains.

Parts arrived as ordered in a timely fashion.

Have not installed or used these products at the time of review.

Great customer service. Edith was very helpful. I ordered the chains and rubber adjusters on Monday and got them Wednesday. They offered 2 day shipping which I needed since my trip to the mountain is on Thursday with snow expected on Friday morning. Thank you for your expertise. I would order from etrailer again.

These chains are for my 2017 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 4x4. They work as advertised. You will want to practice installing these BEFORE you have to use them. I got these right before leaving on a trip, and was required to chain up, and had to learn on the fly on the side of the road in the driving snow. The instructions were great though, so by the time I got to the 4 wheel I had it down. Duallies only get the outside wheel, and that was a bit of a challenge, but learned it and got it done. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because (And lucky I did) you NEED to get extra Rubber Band kits for each wheel. The single Rubber Band (1) is not enough to put good tension on the chains, and (2) is only a single point of keeping your chains on the vehicle. If the single Band fails, there go your chains. etrailer may have recommended the extra kit, I don't remember, but I bought a set of spider bands and some extra singles for each wheel. I ended up using the spider bands to each segment of the chains and they snugged everything down nice, for good tension, and good piece of mind. Great Product, just make sure to back yourself up with extra band kits...

I have a 2006 Hummer H3 Adventure Pack on 35's and I have used the chains quite extensively. I live in Northern Minnesota so we get our fair share of snow. The chains are very impressive, I use my truck to drive around our 400 acres so I just left them on al winter. I can drive down our snowmobile trails in the dead of winter. I almost got stuck once but I put it in 4 low and locked the diff, it drove right out. All in all I love them.

by:

I could never use the chains. One dual side had cams missing on one side and obviously would not work. When I bought them, I just place them in my carry crates and discovered they would fit.... During a snowstorm. Serious bummer.

by:

Good news. The order arrived on the 6th day. To be sure they fit I did a test installation. I installed the Glacier PW1038 snow cable/chains on our 2016 Subaru Forester (225 -60R-17). The chains fit perfectly and on the 2nd notch. (See attached pic). the tighteners were easy to put on and really snugged it down (PW105).

Bad news. I put the chains away and attempted to close the bag. The zipper on the black bag broke on first pull. Ouch!!

love the fit, off the rim, close to the tire and away from other parts of the vehicle.

very nice! Hope I don't need them!

I ordered the snow cables for my Subaru 2018 Outback and received them in 3 days! Your customer service is outstanding! I reordered a second set and received them in 4 days. I just had a chance to use them in Atlanta when we had ice and snow. I used only one set on the front and they worked perfectly. i watched the etrailer installation video for a Subaru and it made the easy to install. It took me less then 5 minutes in my garage. (Outside in the snow and ice might take longer). I drove around Atlanta in the ice and snow and the cables performed flawlessly. I plan to buy a set for my daughter. Thanks again!

by:

The chains arrived sooner than expected and were easy to install on my 2015 Subaru Forester. Because of the clearance between tire and wheelwell this chain was recommended. The video, which shows them being installed on a 2015 Subaru Foresters rear wheels, contradicts the owners manual which tells you to install them on the front wheels. The price was very reasonable. The multi arm adjusters I feel are a necessity and should be included with the chains at an additional cost. Finally, I have not tried them out yet but am confident they will give me additional traction in snow. etrailer is a very reputable company and I highly recommend them.

by:

Living in North, you are required to carry chains from Nov through March while going over passes. I have not used this chain yet so I won’t be able to tell much about the effectiveness of it but at a glance the pair looks sturdy and came with a well made carrying bag. The purchase from etrailer.com was smooth and delivery was on time.my purchase was solely based on the reviews of other customers.

by:

Used them a few times it’s nice to put chains and not have to re tension them I have not used them for long periods only a few places where they were required on a trip to western Montana. They seem to be easier to install than the loop type with sliding hooks.

by:

The product is easy to install they're easy to use. the only issue I had as you can see in the photo. The first time I went to use them one of the bungees broke off in my hand.this however didn't stop me from using them since there are six bungees total and they work good keep in my tire chains tight.
Disclaimer, I never tried to return the bungees and I never called the company to complain I just use them as they were because they still function well

by:

As always, your service is outstanding and it is always a pleasure to do business with you. I gave this 4 stars because the installation instructions were not clear enough for a simple person like me. The photos were not clear and the directional note on the chains themselves will fall off after the first time we use them. They were a stapled paper/plastic.

by:

I had to call in to find out what tire chains were in stock. Otherwise I would have to wait until summer to get them. Very happy with what they sent me.

by:

Just as advertised, they will keep and hold tire chains tight.

Korren was FANTASTIC! After a few setbacks while trying to order a correct size of snow chains on my own, she jumped on a call with me and we had it figured out in no time. Trip to the mountains saved!

by:

Researching which snow chains would best fit my needs was made easy on your website. The videos were absolutely helpful as well. Lastly, I was really surprised on how fast the order was filled and delivered. Ordered on the 5th... shipped on the 6th and then delivered from MO to CA on the 12th. Thanks

by:

Excellent a must for chains snug them up nicely

by:

I'd purchased some other "chains" that were supposed to have plenty of clearance for my Subaru, but they didn't. In fact, they wouldn't work at all on the front wheels, which is where Subaru said that they should be used. And then I came upon the etrailer site and there was a video of a woman installing the PW1042 (or similar) "chains" on a Subaru. Based on the pictures, and the video, these "chains" looked like they really would fit my Subaru Outback, so I sent back the first "chains" I'd order from brand "A" and ordered "chains" and these star-shaped rubber "adjusters" from etrailer. With normal (cheapest) shipping, they arrived in a few days and I tried them on, on my car. (I have a carpeted garage, and I know, "weird," but that's the way the garage was when I bought it, so, well, I have a carpeted garage -- doesn't make me feel bad about trying on things like "chains" and then sending them back, since all they would have run over is carpet.) Anyway, the pw1042 "chains," not being split like the ones I'd previously ordered from brand "A" were harder to put on, but they weren't THAT hard. And the pw105 "adjusters" did a good job of tightening everything up. It looks like a good setup for occasional (more or less emergency in my case) use. The six-armed adjusters don't offer the single point of failure like the circular rubber adjuster that came with brand "A's" "chains." I assume that's a good thing, though I'll admit that the one thick circular rubber adjuster with multiple clips does look sturdier than the six-armed pw105 "adjusters." I worry about the pw105 adjusters having the rubber break at the center ring and/or at the outer metal hooks. I haven't used the "chains" yet, and hopefully I won't find out if this is a real weakness, or just a perceived one. But, like I wrote, there are six independent arms, and if one breaks, it would be easy to stop and cut it off and then continue with the remaining arms. I think as few as four, maybe only three arms would be sufficient to keep the "chains" snug and secure.

No snow or ice in a year havent used them but did put them on again, just to make sure I could still install them when if the time comes. Im still a happy customer.

Adjusters were well-priced, arrived on time and appear to be of excellent quality.

by:

I was more than satisfied with this product, easy to install and lived up to expectations. I would definitely recommend

by:

Excellent product support, videos, literature. I recommend etrailer highly. 2016 Toyota 4Runner.

by:

Very sturdy chains for winter. Fast de livery.

by:

So far, these chains look like they will deliver. I wanted something better than a cable chain that only lasts one storm. In my local, we typically get freezing rain with temperatures in the 30's. These should be good on ice. Installation was fairly easy and the cam tensioners pulled the chains tight. I also ordered the chain tensioning bungie.

by:

I haven't actually had to use these yet, but I am giving 5 stars for Terri's SUPERB customer service. I got help selecting chains and she went out of her way to try to ensure they would arrive in time for my trip, which they did. It's really too bad that not all companies have this kind of service -- the world would be a much more efficient and happier place!

  • Should Snow Tire Chains be Placed on All Four Tires on a 1999 Econoline E250
If you have a rear wheel drive vehicle, you will need to put the chains on the rear tires. You do not need to put them on all four wheels. It would not hurt to have them on all four tires. Though the front wheels do not power the van, they do control the steer and do most of the braking. The link below will take you to the chains that we recommend for the Econoline.

The Glacier V-Bar Snow Tire Chains, DISCONTINUED PWH3810SC, that you referenced on our website have a cross link chain length of 15.12 inches. • Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Tradesmen Edition
When choosing a set of tire chains, you definitely want to choose something that is strong enough to not leave you stranded. Most of the tire chains that we sell are meant for On Road use only. There are a few off road tire chains available, but not for all tire sizes. With that said, I would recommend steel chains over cables. The Glacier chains are only rated for on-road use, but if you were in an off-road situation and these chains were all you had you would be fine. With the Pewag, Glacier, and Thule chains, I recommend a maximum speed of 30 to 35 miles per hour. And with some chains, the maximum speed is 40 miles per hour.
