go power cable entry plate

If your RV does not have a refrigerator vent or you need another entry option for your solar cables, the Go Power cable entry plate is a perfect solution. The plate makes it easier to connect your cables with pre-installed MC4 connectors and lets you choose a convenient entry point on your RV. Additionally, the covered housing helps protect your wiring while preventing leaks by covering and sealing the install area.

Plate Features

MC4 connection

The MC4 connectors provide a quick way to attach the solar cables on the outside of your rig to your internal wiring. Inside the plate, the jam-nut is thread-locked to resist vibrations and protect the connections during travel. Additionally, the plate has channels on its underside that guide adhesive sealant during the mounting process to ensure a proper waterproof seal.

How It Installs

go power cable entry plate installed

This cable entry plate comes pre-wired with 7' of MC4 cables for your internal RV connections. Typically, these will connect to your solar controller. Use 10 AWG to 6 AWG wire for additional internal wiring. The ideal location of the plate, as well as your solar panels and solar controller, is near the battery compartment. The total cable length should not exceed 25 feet. Using a drill, install the cable entry plate to your RV roof using 6 pan-head (#10 or #12, not included) screws.

go power cable entry plate sealant

Use a sealant that suits the material of your RV's exterior. If you have to attach the plate's cables to your internal wiring, you need compatible, heat shrinkable butt splices (10 AWG to 6 AWG wiring). Finally, as an additional safety measure, connect a 30-amp in-line fuse (not included) to the positive wire near the battery.

7’ turns out to not be enough length for my vanagon. Should have measured more carefully. Also, the product that showed up does not look like the photo. It is missing the two holes that hold the wire after it exits the entry plate on the outside. There is also a piece of plastic on the underside that does not allow the plate to sit flat on the roof unless you drill an enormous hole (3/4”+). Not ideal. Will be returning.

Works great. Easy enough to install.

This is an excellent heavy duty pre-wired unit with MC4 connectors that will solve a dealer mess up. Dealer went through the sewer vent pipe boot. I plan to replace the boot and install this beside the vent to use the same chase. Good price and fast shipping. Customer service was tops in answering my questions too.

Good delivery as promised, product looks good, will update after installation

Its been great, strong, no leaks and ready to connectdisconnect

by:

This little Go Power junction system made the job of running wires through my camper roof so much cleaner. Great item.

by:

Works as intended but gave it 4 stars because it did not come with a gasket. You would think it would being that it is an entry port. Not a big deal, you just have to get some silicon

by:

The wire and entry gland are made of quality materials.

  • What Size Wire Should Be Used With the Go Power Solar Entry Cable Plate?
I wouldn't go larger than 10 AWG with the Go Power Solar Cable Entry Plate for MC4 Cables # 34273840. The larger wire will just make sure that you are getting enough power to your entry plate from the solar panel. I recommend going with an option that already has the power wires hooked up like # 34276245 for 7', # 34273841REVA for 10', or # 34273843REVA for 25'.

  • Replacement Nut Parts for Connecting MC4 Cables
From what you are describing it sounds like you are talking about either the nuts on the entry plate or the connectors on the cables. We have the Go Power Solar Cable Entry Plate for MC4 Cables # 34273840 for the entry plate and the Redarc MC4 Connector Kit for Solar Panels # RED98VR (contains 1 male and 1 female) for the connectors that are on the cables that connect to the plate. We also have some kits like the Go Power Solar Cable Entry Plate with Red and Black MC4 Cables # 34276245...

  • Parts Needed to Charge Auxiliary 12V Battery in Van During Travel
The first thought people tend to jump to is charging an additional battery via the alternator. The problem with this solution is that unless you are only powering smaller accessories like cell phones the alternator won't be able to sufficiently charge your auxiliary battery. For this case a solar panel system like the Go Power Kit # 34273836 with an Entry Plate # 34276245 would be your best bet. If you can tell me how many amps your accessories are rated for and how long you plan on using...

  • Can Larger Gauge Wire be Used from the Go Power Solar Cable Entry Plate to the Controller
You could use larger MC4 cable gauge wire from the Go Power Solar Cable Entry Plate # 34273840 to your controller but it wouldn't benefit you very much unless you used larger gauge wire from the solar panel to the entry plate. Larger gauge wire just ensures that enough power is getting from the power source to the part that needs powering but if the initial gauge wire is 10 then going larger further back wouldn't do anything for you. I recommend using one of the entry plates that comes...

  • Parts Needed to Control Battery Charge with Go Power Eco Solar Charging System
In addition to the Go Power Eco Solar Charging System - 10 Watt Solar Panel # 34273836 you'll at least need the Go Power PWM Solar Charge Controller # 34280503 and then I recommend using an entry plate like the part # 34273841REVA to make the installation look nice as the controller will need to be on the inside of your trailer/vehicle. The entry plate I mentioned has a 10" wiring extension but if you need something longer is also comes in the following lengths: 7' - # 34276245 25' -...

  • Go Power Solar Panel Controller PLUS Inverter
The Go Power # 34276119 is a controller that goes between solar panels and your RV battery to provide the correct voltage to charge them. This system stays connected to your RV batteries at all times, including when you are connected to shore power. When you are not connected to shore power you can connect an inverter to your batteries to provide 120 volts of AC power to operate a few things like a fan. If you don't have roof panels I would suggest the Go Power # 34282610 portable 200-watt...

  • Is it Okay to Connect 12 Gauge Wire Solar Panel to 10 Gauge Entry Plate Wiring
It's perfectly okay to use your solar panel that has 12 gauge wire with the Go Power Solar Cable Entry Plate with Red and Black MC4 Cables # 34276245 that has 10 gauge wire. The wiring of your solar panel was picked based on how much amperage it would see likely and connecting that wiring to a heavier gauge wire does no harm as basically it just would be more than you'd need without any drawback.
