Easily Install, Remove, and Carry Your Hitch Head
The HitchGrip is a simple tool that makes it easy to install, remove, and maneuver your weight distribution head assembly. Dealing with an oversized ball mount or heavy weight distribution head can be a real headache. These assemblies can be heavy, awkward to handle, dirty, and genuinely uncooperative. But with the HitchGrip carrying tool, you can do what is needed with your assembly as quickly, cleanly, and painlessly as possible.
The HitchGrip makes it easy to get a good grip on your head assembly. As a result, you won't drop your expensive, heavy equipment, nor will you strain your back trying to awkwardly carry it. It also allows for proper leverage so that you don't have to wiggle and shake the assembly to install or remove it. This saves time and eliminates frustration. And because you don't actually have to touch your head assembly when you use the HitchGrip, you can avoid getting grease and grime onto your hands. This allows you to go from task to task without needing to clean your hands in between.
How to Use the HitchGrip Carrying Tool
First, position the HitchGrip to the side of your hitch ball with the handle pointing toward the rear of your vehicle. Then tilt the tool downward and slide it onto the ball to engage. Make sure that the HitchGrip is centered over the ball mount or hitch head so that the weight will be evenly distributed. Then lift up on the handle of the HitchGrip so that the carbide tips grip the underside of the ball. Once the tool has a good grip on the ball, you can carry and maneuver your ball mount with ease. When you install your ball mount in your hitch receiver, you can also use the HitchGrip to easily line up the hitch pin holes.
Recommended Clearance for Drop Hitches
If your ball mount or head assembly is in the drop position, the HitchGrip may not work on your setup. In order to ensure a good grip and proper leverage, it is recommended that you have no more than 4-1/4" between the top of the hitch head and the top of your trailer hitch receiver. If there isn't enough space between the tool and the top of the hitch head you may not be able to get your hand securely around the handle.

Very handy to carry the ball without having to grab the whole thing. This is really helpful for the weight distribution I have, it's heavy (see photo). The other advantage is if you need to swap out your draw bar/ball and don't feel like, this helps. Thanks to George for the updates!

This is in my top 5 tools to ever purchase. This holder makes it so easy to carry that heavy hitch to the truck and use it to insert into the receiver. Absolutely the most valuable tool for my rv. This hitch weighs approximately 80 lbs, with the tool it is much easier to handle and not drop on my foot.
When I first saw this from an etrailer.com email blast, I couldn't figure it out until I clicked the link and read more about it. When I received the HitchGrip yesterday, I showed it to my wife and now even she feels comfortable picking up the heavy hitch... this is a great new product that I will definitely promote to my many RV trailer friends!

The hitch grip makes removing and instaling my WD hitch a breeze. No more having to grasp a filthy greasy hitch to remove or install. Just grab onto it with this tool and carry it away one handed you dont even have to touch the hitch. Well worth the money.
An excellent tool, solid construction, light weight and nothing cheap ( meaning poor quality) about it. It allows inserting and removing the heavy draw bar with one hand if you can manage the weight, or two hands if not. You never need to touch the draw bar which always seems greasy. Reasonably priced, I bought two and gave one to a fellow camper.

Still works as designed, I use it nearly every time I or remove my draw bar. At first I thought it would be easy for the draw bar to slip out of the tool, but once the weight of the bar is on the “jaws”, that is virtually impossible.
This tool works great for me!!!
This did not fit around what I thought was my standard shank of my 2 5/16 trailer hitch ball and it is well-built. I just can’t use it make sure you measure your shank.
If you have back issues this product gives you more ease & leverage to install your hitch. I personally have found that I have not been using it much because when I am hooking up the trailer I am to lazy to get it out of the storage compartment & just lift the hitch manually and insert it in receiver.
Works as described. Only problem, for me at least, is getting it safely inside my cargo area of the trailer, as my weight distribution head is substantially larger than most. And maybe 100 pounds.
Does make it cleaner, easier to lift and insert / remove from the hitch.
Etrailers Service and shipping cannot be beat, arrived 3 days earlier than quoted. Excellent!

At first, I thought that the hitch might wiggle free from the carrier and on my foot! Never happened! Easy to use, and I figured out how to easily put it back inside the cargo door of my Outdoors Rv trailer. No greasy hands, redistributes the weight for a much easier lift and carry. Excellent tool to have.
It was a waist of money because I have a four wheel drive truck and hitch has a 7in drop. The HitchGrip does not fit.
I only used the carrier a few times, but it worked well and was a big help to me. I have since sold the camper and the hitch carrier went with it.
It is the best helper to lift a heavy hitch and place it in the receiver. Enables me to align the hitch to the receiver with ease. Also keeps me from having grease on my hands. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a help placing a hitch to the receiver.
First tool I ever bought from an email ad. But I trust etrailer. This tool is very clever. One handed lift of your weight distributing hitch head. No more need to squat down and lift with 2 hands…its awesome.

Awesome, I use this tool every time I need to install or remove the weight distribution hitch. Your hands stay clean and it easy to use one handed.
This is in the top 5 RV accessories I have ever purchased. I can do one handed hitch movement without getting all grease. It does have the bad habit of sliding past the flats on the ball but we learned that carrying it by the handle directly above the ball took care of that.
Hitchgrip has made removing and installing my heavy trailer much easier
This is about as useful as you'd expect. I don't get grease all over myself, I don't hurt my back because I can balance the load. It is much easier to manipulate my heavy and unwieldy hitch . If you've got back issues - this can help. It did me.
There’s a learning curve to use but it makes it easier to insert hitch. As always very happy with etrailer. Reggie
I purchased a few of these for my mechanics to have with them. I have been told that it has helped with picking up hitches and haven't had any pinched fingers.

Still being used by my mechanics.
Works great. It helps me to be able to install my weight distribution hitch easier at my age.
OK,I just got this thing and am asked for a review. Not possible with this short of time but I can tell you that after trying it out that it is will make moving the hitch much safer and easier that before as long as it holds up. Only time will tell. I don't give 5 stars for anything as nothing is perfect.

I am very glad I purchased this tool. This has made moving my very heavy weight distributing hitch much easier and at 81 I need all the help I can get.
It slips on the ball when I try to lift my hitch head. The ball hitch is on a 2.5 inch receiver with heavy duty ball.

This tool is really handy, but you will have to maneuver it slowly because if you go at it too quickly, it can slip. Please view this video at the 57 second mark to see how carefully she is moving with the tool.
