Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we are looking at the Replacement Cradles and Straps for your Hollywood Racks Bike Racks here at etrailer. Some reasons you might be looking for a replacement cradle is if maybe you've left your bike rack out in the sun and the sun might have possibly damaged it, or it's gone through extreme weather conditions, or you might have lost a strap and just want you replace it. Another reason is some people look for it is if they have another the style of bike rack, but as long as it has an inch diameter arm, you can use these replacement cradles and straps. This kit comes with two cradles and two straps.
We have here the Hollywood racks expedition bike rack which is a perfect match because it comes with two cradle and two straps if you wants to replace your anti-sway cradle as well you can get our different kit here at etrailer that comes with that cradle and the normal size cradle as well as straps for your kit. The strap itself is 8 1/2 inches long; as for the cradle, you have this hole on the inside that fits an inch diameter arm. The strap itself is made of this nice, strong, sturdy rubber which will help secure your bikes, but it's also elastic enough to find the best fit over them. As for the cradle, I really like it. It's really sturdy.
It feels like a hard plastic with like a rubber coating almost, and that will help prevent scuffs and scratches on your bike's frame as it secures them. Not all Hollywood bike racks are made the same. Some have an inch diameter arm others have an inch and a quarter. So please check the product page to find the numbers of the products or bike racks that will fit with this replacement kit. Some tips while using this just to prolong the life of your Hollywood racks bike racks is I like to rotate the straps every now and then; let's see, I'm using the one closest to the vehicle a lot, I would switch it around kinda like how you rotate your tires.
You can also rotate your straps just to get the most life out of them. Another thing that will help is if you are driving around have your strap secure even if you don't have a bike on them; that way, they are not flocking around, and that decrease the chances of you losing or damaging your equipment. The cradle itself just slides onto your arms, so if you are using this on a different type of bike rack, one make sure that the arm fits and two that there are no ridges underneath. There are no screws involved in this install process. So let's take a look at that.
Now I'm going to show you how to replace your cradle. And first thing you have to use a Phillips screwdriver to take the screw off so that way you can take off the end cap, and then from there, you're going to just push this cradle out of the arm. One thing to note is I do recommend using either soapy water or hand sanitizer just to lubricate the process. Also, please do this when your bike rack is off your vehicle so that you're not putting any stress on your vehicle. If you rotate it enough, as you pull, you can then eventually just pop off that cradle just like that and then replaced it with your new one. And once that's in place, don't forget to put your end cap back on and screw it shut. And that's it for the install. My final thoughts about this replacement part is I do like how easy it was to install. Yes, it does take a little bit of force to remove them from your arms. Also, if you're using this to replace preexisting parts, it's a nice, quick, and easy process as well as I recommend just holding onto these just in case something happens. And you're not worried about your bike just hanging loose. And that was the look here at the replacement cradle and straps for your Hollywood racks bike racks here at etrailer..

Replace 2 standard cradles on your Hollywood Racks hanging-style bike rack. Designed for racks with 1" diameter arms. The cradles are soft, and are a little wider than the top tube on my bike, but they work. The straps are soft yet strong and hold it securely. The cradles were a bit tight to put on. I used a little vaseline, cooled the bike rack tube with a cold pack, and heated the cradle in hot/warm water. Then they went on much easier. It feels good to know my bike will be secure on the rack.
HR740-P Replacement Standard Cradles for Hollywood Racks Bike Carrier with 1" Arms - Qty 2
I bought these from etrailer - they arrived in a reasonable time frame and work just as needed. You may need some vaseline to get them on the rack. I would purchase from etrailer in the future.
UPDATED TIPS!! This is my second order with etrailer for these cradles. This time I ordered 4 packs to upgrade an Allan 4-bike hitch rack with 1" bars (8 total cradles). The original cradles are plastic, rotate freely, and use nylon straps and plastic adjusters that I was not a big fan of. I like how the new rubber straps tension your bike or bar down quickly and easily, and it doesn't rotate while you're loading or unloading your bike(s).
The easiest way I found to get them on: ** Make sure the SQUARE cradle "hook" is facing the car, and the DIAMOND hook is facing back toward the bar ends. Smear hand sanitizer (I know you have some) on the inside of the rubber cradle, and on the end of your rack bar. You'll notice it's too small to simply slide on. So this is where a rubber mallet comes in handy. After I positioned the cradle over the bar, I covered it with a shop towel/rag and hammered it until the bar is all the way through the cradle. Then, I smear more sanitizer over the rest of the bar, cover the cradle with a shop towel, and grip it with channellock pliers. Rotate it back and forth while pushing back on the cradle along the bar; be patient, it'll get moving. It took me about 45 min. to slowly learn this method, then get all 8 cradles on.
This was a great solution for my old Saris bike rack. Parts are no longer available for that model but the ad description gave me enough information to decide on these. They fit well and are good quality. I appreciate the manufacturer offering me an eco-friendly option, rather than the costly requirement of purchasing a new rack. etrailer shipped fast in good packaging. Thank you etrailer.
Excellent replacement on my Thule four bike carrier. I had two original Thule cradles that cracked. For the replacement parts, both parts were a snug fit. So I used windex (for lubricant-lubes easier movement on the carrier pipe but dissipates quickly ) and a dead blow hammer and a drift to move the new cradle into position on the carrier.
The displayed close up picture, cradle on the left, is the replacement. The cradle on the right is the original Thule cradle.
I would re-purchase the same product.
Good quality- using for bike mount in back of travel van- works great after using for a year.
Fits my 1 inch trunk bike rack perfectly! Seems to be great quality and can't wait to haul my bike to the local trails!
package says for 1-1 1/4 inch but would not go over 1 1/8 inch tube. Had to slit with a hacksaw. Will have to drill hole through side to secure it as slit allows it to come off. Fit snug on 1 inch beginning tube of bike holder. Product size mislabled.
The bike rack that I purchased from a different company came with inferior tiedowns to secure the bike. Actually two of them broke with in the first two weeks of use. The tiedowns/cradles I received from etailer are very robust and easy to use. They secure my bike very well and appear to be long lasting.
After purchasing a used bike rack, ( Saris ). I needed to replace all of the cradles because they were barely usable and did not trust them to hold the bikes in place. I measured the diameter of the rack which was roughly 1". The pieces were really snug and I had to work them on forcefully. But I think a tight fit was needed to ensure that it will remain stable. As long as I measure I think that Etrailer.com products can help you repair or replace any parts u may need.
I purchased these mounts as a replacement for the mounts on a Bell hitch-mounted bike rack.
They were a very snug fit, but worked out perfectly.
Good product description. Excellent order followup. Prompt delivery
Perfect. Received extremely fast.
Thanks they fit My Allen Bike rack perfect
Allen includes cheap Nylon straps that come loose and I prefer the rubber straps for easier connect . Thanks
I bought a used Allen rack that had hard plastic cradles that constantly moved while I was trying to get my bike loaded. They also had annoying nylon straps that threaded through the back side of the cradles to secure. They were hard to manage and took too long to thread, especially after I finished riding, was hot and tired and just wanting to get my bike back on the rack. Like others, it took some effort getting the new cradles on the arms. I used a utility knife to cut very thin slices off the inside of one end, just enough to be able to use a rubber mallet to slowly pound the cradles down the bars. It took me awhile but they are on now and are so much better than the old cradles were.
works great,just what i needed
Great replacement cradles for my bell bike rack.
I bought two sets of these to rebuild my older bike rack with worn out cradles. They were stiff to get on! Cooling the rack tubes and vaseline did the trick. I love knowing that my bicycle is now secure. The cradles have ample room for a larger diameter bike tube than mine has.
Love it, perfect fit on my Xport rack. All I needed was a replacement strap, but the critical factor was the diameter of the rack arm which was 1". The first straps I ordered didn't work but this order was perfect.
Great replacement parts!! Thanks!
Like a lot of reviews here, I used this to update an old Bell 2-bike carrier with 1" bars. These are in a totally different quality class than the originals; I'm so glad to have throw the old ones in the trash. Installation tip: I used very thick, soapy water to lube the arms and inside of these cradles. Then I wrapped a garage towel around the cradle so it doesn't get damaged, and used channellock pliers (with its largest opening) to grab, rotate, and push the cradle on to the bar. Move it to where you want it, and once the soap dries, it's not moving. Trust me, this tip will save you grief and heartache.
It seems that the product is made of good quality material. I mounted it
on an older style Bell bike rack. I found that by using a fair amount of
petroleum jelly inside the fitting made the installation much easier.
Great product fit perfect on my old Hollywood rack
No problems at all .
A couple of years ago I bought and inexpensive hitch rack to carry my road and mtb for short distances of a few miles. Didn't use it very often as I have a Suburban so really only used it about six times. Worked alright but I wasn't a big fan of the velcro loops that held the bike(s) but it seemed to work okay.
I was going on a long trip out of state and needed to take the bikes on the rack. I was very concerned about the cheap velcro and rubber retainers holding up over the road for 1000 miles each way. Last thing I wanted to have happen was my $1200 to become roadkill because of a cheap strap.
Needless to say I was pretty sure that I wouldn't find anything of use by Googling the manufacturer, so I decided I would just see what was out there. I ran across the etrailer site and found these cradles. Based just on the specs I thought they would probably work. And for about $10 a set they were a bargain. So I ordered two sets. I was interested to see how well they worked when the arrived.
They fit my rack perfectly. There is an allen bolt to tighten them up on the rack arms so they don't slide around. The rubber strap is more than enough to hold even some weighty bikes. Not cheap junk here, these are quality cradles. Just by adding these I've transformed my cheap rack for getting around town to one that I have no concerns about taking long distance.
Service from etrailer was great. They shipped very fast, sent my an email with tracking and the order arrived in under a week. That's without expedited shipping, just the low cost option. I couldn't be more satisfied and would be more than happy to recommend them to anyone looking for bike rack parts. And probably other things they sell as well. I know that I'll keep them in mind if I need anything else.
They were a little tight to get on, had to use a hammer, but once onn work good.
These replacement straps are very good. A little bit of a go getting them is place, but nothing a good mallet couldn’t fix. Been using them for the season, no problems.
