Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and today we're going to be taking a look at the replacement shank for the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider bike rack. Now this is going to be a direct replacement from Hollywood Racks for your Trail Rider. This is the portion that attaches your bike rack to your hitch. So typically your Trail Rider sits here, the hardware will go down through there to hold the platform of that rack, and then the rest of your bike rack sits there so this goes into the hidden hitch. It does have a rise in the shank to give you a little bit better ground clearance. It's going to come with just the inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter tube, and then the two inch adapters.
So you can use this for an inch and a quarter hitch or a two inch hitch.Comes with a new anti rattle bolt with the flat washer and star washer so that helps to keep everything nice and tight, keeps it from backing out inside the hitch, and that anti-rattle bolt keeps your bike rack secure in the hitch so you don't have any rattle or wobble as you're going down the road. Also is a Cotter pin to go on the other side as a safety feature, little ring on the end so it can either give you a better purchase on that or if you put those two together, you can hang that little ring somewhere on your bike rack to keep it with the rest of it whenever you put that bike rack into storage. It also comes with the Allen key that fits the bolt that keeps this adapter on the shank so you can easily take this off if you need to use your bike rack on an inch and a quarter hitch. Inch and a quarter hitches are typically going to be the class one or class two hitches. The two inch by two inch hitches are typically your class three and class four. So again, direct replacement from Hollywood Racks.
Just in case your shank happened to get damaged, bent, broken, something happened, this will get you back out on the road and enjoying your Hollywood Racks Trail Rider bike rack again. Hope this is helpful and thanks for watching.

Replaces the 1-1/4" receiver shank for your Hollywood Racks Trail Rider bike rack (HR200Z).I'd had an accident which had bent the original shank. A local blacksmith straightened it to where I could use it. He straightened it laterally, but did not correct it vertically where it attached to the hitch. I used it that way for a couple years until the look of the bike appearing to fall away from the car prompted me to buy another shaft. My bike rack was no longer in production. I explained how it compared to the shaft on a newer rack. You were able to find me one.
I installed it and have been using it ever since to haul a tandem, just returned from using it today. The rack is not quite big enough for a tandem, so I turn the handlebars 180 degrees and get the advantage of the fork rake to mount the tandem.
The point is you went out of your way to help me find a part that would correct my careless accident. Never mind that I haul a bike that is officially too big for my bike rack.
Just what I needed after we backed into a tree with the bike rack.

One year later I am still using the Hollywood rack with the replacement shank. I have been hauling tandems since 1987 starting with trunk mounted racks and proceeding through a variety of small pick ups to a receiver hitches on my cars and the Hollywood rack. For security of transport and ease of loadingunloading our tandem, the Hollywood hitch mounted rack has been our best solution. It is not as elegant as some racks I have seen, but it is just so practical. And I can haul my Fat Bike with the tandem. I am 77 now and appreciate devices that help me do what I value.
