A clever invention that I have been able to utilize for the bike rack I built for our daughter’s Scamp camper.
The upright was a replacement for one that snapped off near the base. The rack is located on a camp trailer above the hitch so it gets tossed around a bit. I had bolted the rack in the receiver to stop it from bouncing around so much. But I am afraid this rigid system transferred all the bounce force to the hitch upright. After the upright broke and I replaced it. I now leave the hitch/receiver connection with some play and while it looks more wobbly, I think there is less stress in the system. After a year of occasional use this aproach is working well.
