Hi, there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Kwikee Electric RV Step Motor Upgrade Kit. This is going to upgrade the internal components of your Kwikee powered step. It's going to include the motor, the gear, the control unit, and the installation hardware that you're gonna need to upgrade your Kwikee powered step. They do include instructions for you, so make sure that everything is installed properly.
This is going to be very simple to get installed because it is a direct replacement from Kwikee, so you can trust all the components are gonna be compatible, you're not gonna have to worry about fit issues and that sort of thing. They do include the screws, washers and nuts that you'll need. This is gonna provide an improved gear assembly. It's got zinc plating on it, so it's gonna have a high torque, high corrosion resistance, and a high torque motor. This motor will provide the power to extend and retract your Kwikee steps.
That's gonna have the automatic shutdown feature that will retract the steps if they strike an object during extension, so you're not gonna have to worry about them causing damage. The control unit here is going to wire into the RV to automatically extend and retract the steps when the door is open and shut. It does have the default mode that's gonna link the steps, and the step light, which is sold separately, to the opening and closing of the door. You also have the override mode that will allow you to lock the steps in the extended position with the switch kit, which is sold separately. That way you don't have to worry about waiting on them to open and close if you're gonna be parked for a while, you can just leave them open.
And it's also gonna have the ignition override safety feature that will retract the steps when the vehicle is started, so you don't have to worry about pulling away still having your steps out, potentially causing damage. So, really durable construction here with weatherproof wiring that's gonna help protect the assembly from the elements. It is made here in the USA, so you can trust it is gonna be good quality, but more than anything, because this is from Kwikee, you can trust it is going to fit right in with those original Kwikee steps. Includes motor, control unit, gear, and installation hardware.Arrived yesterday (earlier than promised).Installed today. Works perfectly. It was a pain getting the steps out, but wasn't too much trouble putting it back together. It's too bad there's no low-cost way to repair the guts of the older Series 28 steps. Oh well, that's the cost of maintaining an older RV.
