Specs:
With repeated use of this brake assembly, the brake shoes may move out of alignment, causing less efficient braking performance. To keep the brake shoes aligned and the brake assembly performing correctly, you should perform routine maintenance.
This brake assembly should be adjusted after installation and then as needed for the life of the brake. To adjust the brake, use a brake adjustment screw tool (sold separately) to turn the adjustment gear on the inside of the assembly. Continue to turn the gear until the drum surrounding the brake catches on the brake pads enough so that the hub can no longer be turned easily by hand. Then reverse the gear by about 10 clicks. A properly adjusted brake should drag slightly on the brake drum.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com, and today we're gonna take a look at this Lippert 12-inch left-hand electric trailer brake assembly. This manual adjusting driver's side electric trailer brake assembly measures 12 inches by two inches, and this is rated for 4,000 pound to 7,000 pound axles. And this is going to work for 14 and a half inch, 15 inch, 16 inch, and 16 and a half inch wheel sizes. And let me move back here so you can see we do have a five-bolt mounting flange bolt pattern. So this is going to work with most standard hub and drum assemblies, including Dexter, Lippert, and AL-KO.
And as you no doubt know, electric brakes are easier to install and offer more user control than hydraulic brakes. They require only an electric brake controller, which is sold separately, so no actuator or hydraulic lines are necessary. And if you notice back here, there are two black wires that need to be connected. One is gonna go to your brake feed, and the other's gonna go to the ground. So they're both black so you can use either wire for either function.
This is a manual adjust brake. So periodic manual adjustment is required. The fine tooth brake adjustment gear allows for a more precise setting. This does include an adjuster plug that covers the access hole to keep the dirt and grime out of the assembly and off the shoes. To adjust the brake, you're just going to use a brake adjustment screw tool which is sold separately, to turn the adjustment gear on the inside of the assembly.
And you're going to continue to turn the gear until the drum surrounding the brake catches on the brake pads enough so that the hub can no longer be turned easily by hand. And then reverse the gear about 10 clicks. A properly adjusted brake should drag slightly on the brake drum. So this is a left-hand side, which is the driver's side brake assembly. So the way that you can tell is, of course, by the sticker, which we have one right here, it looks like, and also on the back.
So your newer ones are going to have a sticker. However, if there is no sticker, the way that you can tell is by looking at the length of the pads on the shoe. So this is the longer pad, and then this is the shorter pad. And so the shorter pad is your primary shoe, and that primary shoe will always face the front of your trailer like this. So you can tell that it's gonna go this way. And this is going to be your driver's side brake assembly. Now if you are also needing your right-hand or the passenger side brake assembly, we do also carry that. And on your screen, I am including our item number for that right-hand electric trailer brake assembly. And you can just take that item number and put it in the search field of our website, and it will take you to that right-hand assembly. Now I do wanna point out that mounting bolts, nuts and lock washers are sold separately. So that would have to be a separate item to pick up if you do not already have that. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
