What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com Today, we're gonna be checking out this tailgate hinge, RotopaX mount from MORryde, on our 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Now this is gonna allow you to carry a gas can right here on the back, in this unused space area. That way, it's out of the way and you don't have to find somewhere else to strap it down. Let's check it out. Now, this doesn't work with just any hinges, this works with the heavy duty hinges from MORryde as well. We've already got them installed.
You can see it's got the attachment points here, three of those. I'll just get this out of the way so I can show you the bracket itself. Here's what you're mounting on there. This is not included, but you will get this bracket and the attachments that you'd use to install it. You can see it's on there really tight.
I can shake the whole Jeep back and forth. There's no rattling or movement here. So that's a really good sign. The bracket itself is a black powder coat steel. So you know it's going to hold up.
You can leave it here on the back of the Jeep and it's not gonna erode or rust on you. It's gonna hold up. just like these heavy duty hinges will. Plus it matches them so it doesn't stick out. You can throw this on real quick, show you how easy that is and how nice it looks with it on there.
It doesn't interfere with opening your tailgate. There's actually a spacer you install to make it stop right before it fully opens. giving you plenty of room between taillight and your canister. We have a two gallon one on here, but it holds up to three gallons and you can see how much space is left, not even close to making contact so it's something you just don't even have to worry about. If we look at the bracket, it sticks out 10 inches from the back of your Jeep which isn't even as stuck out. as much as the spare tire is. So you're not gonna have to worry about it sticking out further and worrying about that extra space. With the canister on there too, it adds a little bit more out here, but not a whole lot. So it's another thing you're not gonna have to worry about. It's just a little bit more. It won't be in the way, which is a good thing to know. The way we have it set up right here is that it's gonna work with tire sizes up to 33 inches. And you can see we have plenty of room between our tire and the bracket. And if we we're to install it here instead, it would work with tires up to 37 inches. So you do have some options on what you can do with that. Speaking of installations, it's not that hard to do with all the instructions, it's just a couple of steps. You need to tighten some bolts down and it's nice and installed. Follow along and see how we did it. First thing we're gonna do is remove the spare tire. It just gives us more room to work. We're gonna need to be back here. So this just gets it out of the way, so we can get in there. Now we're gonna line our bracket up. Just kinda get an idea of where you wanna put it. This one's gonna be for 33-diameter tires and this would be probably 37. So we're gonna go here 'cause we know this will fit. And what we wanna do is run this back in here, make sure that this end is facing towards the Jeep, 'cause that's what you're putting the bolt into, to kind of hold it in place here. Hold the bracket up, line up that back hole there and I can get this bolt started on the inside here. We'll come down to the second hinge. We'll slide our base right there and then holding it and starting the bolt. And I try not to cover it up, so you can see what I'm doing, get it hand started. I recommend using a rationing ranch, here at the bottom 'cause the slip comes up a little bit. Wasn't able to get this to fit on there to tighten it down. Do that. Get it nice and tight. Now we're gonna add a spacer, here to the bottom hinge. So this is gonna go right here. I'm gonna remove this bolt and put it through there. And what that does is it sticks out just a little bit more of these tabs. So when you open this fully, it won't fully open. That way the RotopaX doesn't come in contact with our taillight or just get in the way. So this little bit we'll hit on here and stop it from completely opening. It's all we gotta do is back that one back out just like that. And then we put it right back into place. Now we're ready to install the RotopaX holder. Now this isn't including the kit. So you have to get this separately. You have two options, you can go down here. And this is for like a one gallon tank and you go up here. This goes up to three gallon tanks. So since we have a two gallon tank I'm gonna install it right here. With it all tightened down, you can go ahead and put your spare tire back up there and you can add your canister. Slide it on, that easy and twist this into place, just like that. So it was pretty easy to install. Didn't take very long to get it on there and it's on there nice and tight. I can shake the whole Jeep back and forth. There's no rattling or movement. You see this move back forward just a little bit but it's not coming off there. So I think it's a good way to add to the storage of these hinges. Add accessories onto it. And you don't have to put it inside the vehicle or figure out somewhere to strap it down. It's all right here. Nice and tight when you need it. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and I hope this helps..
