Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Optronics trailer license plate mounting bracket. So when it comes to these license plate brackets it's something you really don't give much thought but over time, you're just going to need to replace it. You know, whether it be, they just break, they come loose and fall off, get real bent up and more or less just destroyed. It's almost just a maintenance item almost, every few years, it's something you need to think about changing. And honestly, to me it's something that you just want a replacement.
You want some that's going to work and really don't have to give it too much thought. And that's exactly what this one is. Very universal. It's going to work with pretty much any application. So it gives you a couple of mounting holes and everything else.
And it's really designed to work very easily with lights like this that have the studs coming out of the back. Coz then it just goes right over them studs, and you bolt it down. As far as what lights it will work with, generally speaking just about all of them. As long as the studs have a two inch center to center, this'll fit right over it, bolt it down and you can call it a day. So this particular bracket, it's going to hang down a little bit about in the perfect spot, in my opinion, whether you have a thicker taillight or even a thinner one.
That way it's completely visible, you're going to be completely legal. And anyone's going to be able to see your tag. Since it does kind of shoot back a little bit and drop down, what that's going to do is the majority of these tail lights on one side will have a white light underneath, and that's there for your license plate, to illuminate your license plate. And with this coming back a little bit it kind of just positions your plate when it's nighttime and you got your lights on, that license plate light will kind of throw light on that plate better and help keep it more illuminated. So before we actually put the bracket on, I figured we could kind of just check it out real quick.
So this is made out of a plastic material and it is relatively flexible, actually. It's got some good bend to it. It doesn't feel like it's going to snap in half or anything like that. Maybe after a couple of years if it's sitting outside and things like that I could see it maybe becoming a little more brittle, and maybe giving you an issue there. But you know when it's relatively new or if you keep everything in storage, I could see this lasting for pretty long time, actually. I don't think it'll break on the first thing you hit. Which does happen when you're backing your trailers out. This is primarily designed to work with those taillights that have studs so that'll be over the stud there. You have that hole for your wires to pass through if that's how your light's set up. And it also has kind of some other small holes that you could always enlarge to use different attachment points. So it's really versatile, you know, just about any kind of standard trailer you'll be able to make this work with. And I figured while we we're here, we can just kind of grab another bracket and kind of compare it. So this one's an Optronics bracket, it's metal and feels pretty high quality. The thing is with the metals, you know they're not going to be as brittle, but they could potentially rust over time. So that's something to think about as well. And with this particular one, it just drops straight down. So you don't have that part where it kind of comes in and hangs down further like the plastic one here. And so, if your taillight has a built-in license plate light this style would be a little more beneficial there. Coz it just, this one won't hold it down as far to give you the coverage that you're probably looking for. There are a couple of measurements I figured I'd just throw out if any of you are interested in those. The overall length of it here, so from this end to this end, it's going to be about eight inches. The overall height, so from this bottom edge to this top edge, it's going to be right at about five and a half inches. And I figured this one would be useful, as well. The center hole right there to there where it can go on the back of your taillight stud, that's going to be right at two inches. That's a really common size and will work with most taillights in general. So at the end of the day, a really simple license plate bracket, you know it's going to get the job done and something you're not going to have to put much thought into. If you check our sites, something I do want to mention, is we actually have a cross-reference there. That'll help kind of point you in the right direction too, on exact fits. But other than that, with that being said, it's going to fit pretty much any trailer, and it's super easy to put on. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and do that together now. So to get our bracket on, it's going to be super easy. Now, keep in mind, each trailer is going to be set up a little bit different, but this should at least get you going in the right direction. So what we're going to do is utilize our taillight, and on the back of it there, we're going to have two nuts that we can remove using a 10 millimeter wrench. So we'll get our hardware off I'm going to leave that washer on this side, coz we do have a ground there, leave those washers on Once you get that pulled off, all we're going to have to do is simply just take our bracket, slide that over the studs. I'm going to add another washer on this side and get everything reinstalled. I do want to mention, no hardware or anything like that does come with it. But, if you need some, you can find it here at etrailer. And all that's left to do is grab our plate, and simply get that on the bracket. And now, that's really all there is to it and you're ready to hit the road. And that'll finish up our look at, and our installation of the Optronics trailer license plate mounting bracket..

it's plastic and it holds a licence plate
Excellent Excellent
Simple mount. Mounts easily. Great price! Excellent service!
Service was amazing, I needed the parts ASAP so I could leave on a fishing trip and Katie made sure I got everything very quickly.
right item at a good price. fast shipping. I highly reccomend this company.
A nice product. It won't rust but it is probably not as touch as steel. It will flex if it hits something backing up. I have damaged these in the past, but I was abusing the thing. I bought two. Cheap enough to have a spare laying around.
Everything was fantastic.
This bracket has held up to over 4,000 miles of trailering in the last year. This is much better than the "diamond plate" aluminum bracket that was replaced by this bracket after only a few months. I didn't even last half that many miles before cracking across one of the bends in the metal.
This bracket has been good so far, and plastic isn't going to corrode eventually like metal brackets.
This product fits the tracker trailer for my 2013 Pro 170 bass boat perfectly. Very quick and easy install (5 minutes). Just loosen the two nuts that are on the back of the left taillight and remove the two washers. The taillight slides right out because the two bolts are made to the back of the light. You put this bracket onto the bolts and slide the bolts back through the two holes on the trailer. This is a good time to make sure that the wires do not become pinched and are pushed back into the trailer frame. Just put the washers back onto the bolts and then the nuts and tighten and you're done. The fit is perfect! Great product! Just for information I also bought the metal bracket, but the holes were too small so I used this one and everything was in the right place and right size. I didn't want to spend fishing time making the holes bigger on the metal bracket!
Fast expedient service. I recommend they highly.
This is NOT just a license plate holder. I needed a bracket to use to mount electric wiring connection, and braking system cable, for my tow car for behind my RV. I have purchased from etrailer several times in the past, and have been every happy with the top quality of their products. No one makes exactly what I need, but the bracket did the job, and it will last, that I am sure of.
I broke my utility trailer's mounting bracket and needed a replacement. I checked etrailer.com first as they have always had the parts I've needed at a good price and fast shipping. This bracket was exactly like my original one. I have order more expensive items in the past and have always been satisfied. A good company to do business with.
I sent an order through another site for a license plate holder for my trailer. The previously plate and holder were both damaged. I looked locally for a replacement license plate holder but could not find anywhere. So, I went on a search and found exactly what I needed. The item is very reasonably priced. IN addition, it fit perfectly to match my needs. Fast and Efficient........
It is the original bracket that is standard with the trailer
Perfect replacement.

Got this item very quickly. Fit my trailer like the original. For the price I bought two in case I break another one.
The bracket worked as expected, and I'm happy that etrailer offers these parts.

UPDATE: I have used this bracket for over a year now and it is still working perfectly! I do not have a garage for my boat and trailer so I cover the boat, but the trailer is exposed to the sun and other elements 24 hours per day. After going through several snow storms, this past winter and all of the rain followed by days of hot sun, this bracket still looks like new and has the same flexibility as the day that I purchased it.I highly recommend this product and I will order it again if I ever accidentally break it off. I had to replace my OEM bracket because I got it caught on a anchor rope and snapped it off while solo launching my boat at the dock! After learning from my mistake, and getting this bracket, I have had no issues. This is a great product!
