Video Transcript for Pack Em Ladder Rack Installation

Today in our trailer we'll be having a look at the Pack'Em Ladder Rack for Exterior Side Wall of Enclosed Trailers, part number PK-28WL2-BM. All right, here's what our ladder rack looks like when we have two ladders installed on it. As you see, we're using step ladders and we alternated them, so we could actually clear both our ladders over our fender properly. Now, the main reason you want a ladder rack like this, is on an enclosed trailer, sometimes you don't have the necessary room inside for your long ladder, especially if you have an extension ladder. This will allow you easy access to your ladder and still have all the room inside your trailer to have your construction equipment and your construction supplies. Now this kit's designed to store up to two ladders on the outside of your trailer. Right now we just have the one installed with the one set of arms. Now, you can adjust how your ladders are stored on the rails at various heights depending on the size of your ladder or the shape.

You can go up higher if you need to, or down lower if you need to. Now for convenience, our ladder rack comes with eight bungee cords in order to secure the ladders to the rack. We have four 12" ones, and four 18" ones. Now, for added security and to help prevent theft of your ladders when installed on the rack, you can use a cable lock with a padlock to secure them on down. We have several of those options available on our website. Now one of the great features about this is our ladder is easily removable.

We just undo our bungee cords. Here our ladder rack is 46-1/2" tall, and will accommodate ladders that are up to 6-1/4" wide. Now our ladder rack is also available as a single kit to hold a single ladder. So basically it'll be like what we have on the trailer already right now. Only difference being, you won't get your second pair of legs to rest your ladder onto. Your bungee cords, instead of having four of the 12" and four of the 18", you'll have two of each. Now that we've gone over some features of our ladder rack, we'll show you how to get it installed on our trailer.

First thing we want to do is find out where the studs are on our trailer wall. If you look down here on the side, we have multiple rows of screws that attach to the side of our trailer. These go straight into the studs on the interior wall. This is where we're going to want to attach our rails. Now we need to find a good location for them to space them properly for our ladder use.

We're going to have our back one here, right behind our fender. For our front one here, we will install it right behind where this vent is. That way our ladders won't interfere with the vent. Now we need to mark where we're going to draw our holes at. We'll just get it right in line, up against the roof line here, and we'll make a mark right here in the middle. We'll do the same for our bottom bolt location. We'll do the same for our front rail. Now we'll draw out a pilot hole where we marked. Okay, we'll go ahead and draw the other pilot holes for the front and the rear rails. With our pilot holes all made, we'll now drill them out using an 11/32 drill bit. Now we'll take our long threaded bolt and one of our flat washers and we'll put it on. We'll take one of our wide washer plates, place it on the bolt, and then we'll raise it in position and go through the hole. Now on the inside of our trailer, we'll place on our smaller plate washer, a round washer, and then our nylon lock nut. We'll do the same here for our bottom. We have an extra set of hands on the outside of the trailer holding the bolt in place with a wrench while we tighten down the nut. We'll do the same on the bottom one now. We'll double check our top one now and make sure its snug. With that done, we'll repeat the same process for the front row. Now we'll take our lateral arm, our reinforcement plate, one of our shorter bolts, slide it in position, run the bolt on through, place another bolt in, and we'll thread on our nylon lock nuts, and then we'll snug our hardware on down. We'll go to the front rail and do the same at the same position. All right, now if you have an excessive amount of bolt sticking through on your inside wall of your trailer here, you can actually cut this off with a grinder, so you can maximize the amount of room inside your trailer for storing stuff against the wall. You don't have to worry about running into it either. I'll repeat the same process for our front rail. That completes our look at the Pack'Em Ladder Rack for Exterior Side Walls of Enclosed Trailers, part number PK-28WL2-BM.

Good product. I got a new trailer. I decided to put the ladders on the side of it. As the other trailer had them on top. There were things I didn't like to do to get rolling down the road. With this ladder rack holder I got my 28 foot ladder closer to the ground. For me it's easier to handle. And a 16 foot ladder above it. After having these ladder racks for a year, I consider it a good investment. The finish on them has faded some and I may have to paint them in another half a year. Other wise, built good. I like the ladders on the side of my trailer than on top.

Its been two years. No problems. Great product.

I'm sure most of us could get by with making our own trailer organizing system...but what the hell for?! These guys perfected the designs. Stop screwing around and do things right the first time. Reasonable prices and fast shipping. Hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

  • Difference Between Pack'em Ladder Racks
There is just one difference between the Pack'em Ladder Racks that you mentioned, which is the tower kits they come with, and that designates the type of trailer that they are designed to be used on, per the manufacturer. The towers have slightly different hole spacing and configuration depending on what they are designed for. The Utility Trailer Tower Kit # PK-BMH is designed for easy install on an open trailer with side rails and is included with the Pack'em Ladder Rack for Side Rail...

  • Mounting the Pack Em Ladder Rack to my Van.
The Pack Em' Ladder Rack part # PK-28WL can be mounted to just about anything with the right hardware. Typically they are designed to attach to the Pack Em' Rails part # PK-BM In your case I would be concerned with the strength of the steel you were mounting to. If you were to reinforce those areas to ensure that your hardware would not pull out you can use them where you want. You will notice on these that there are brackets that point towards the mounting surface to go around the...

  • Can The Mounting Tabs Be Cut Off Of the Ladder Rack Bracket Kit For Packem Enclosed Trailer?
The Ladder Rack Bracket Kit # PK-28WL is specifically designed to be used with Utility and Enclosed Trailer Tower Kit # PK-BM or Utility Trailer Tower Kit # PK-BMH. The tabs sticking out of the bracket kit are made to attach to the tower kits, so cutting them off could compromise the structural integrity of the brackets and I do not recommend doing so. That being said, it probably would not be very difficult to cut the tabs off with an angle grinder or similar tool. In regard to making...

  • Ladder Rack With Higher Transport Height than Pack'Em Ladder Rack or Extensions
The Pack'Em Ladder Rack for Side Rail of Open Air Trailer - 2 Ladder # PK-28WL2-BMH is 46-1/2" tall x 2" wide x 1" deep, so anything taller would require customization as there isn't an extension designed for this system. If you want just the holders so you can customize the height, I recommend the Ladder Holder for Pack'Em Towers - Enclosed Trailers and Open Air Trailers # PK-28WL. For additional tower length you can add the Heavy-Duty Towers for Pack'Em Ladder Rack or Rack'Em Blower...
