Today we're going to take a look at the 3-Wire pigtail for Peterson trailer lights. This is going to be a weathertight plug. This is going to be the female end that attaches to your Peterson light. So I'll bring one in for demonstration. It does not come with a light. You will have to pick that separately.
But we've got a lot of options available here at etrailer.com.The weathertight seal is going to be this little, kind of yellowy portion here. It's going to just block any water, dust, dirt, or anything else from getting into that connection and causing any issues, and then will also have this large clip that's going to go around the little nub on the back of our light. That's just going to keep it in place. This is going to hold pretty firmly in place. You might have to give it a good push. It will snap in place there and hold it securely.
It will have the three wires coming off the end. It will have the white wire with the number 10 ring terminal. That's going to be our ground. The black wire is going to be for our taillight or running light signal. The red wire will be for our turn and brake signal.I'm going to hook this up to my power source, so you can get an idea of how that's going to work.
Again, black wire provides our running lights, and then the red wire is going to be our turn signal or brake signal, if I can get that to stay on there. There we go. So pretty easy system. It's designed to be used specifically with the Peterson stop, tail and turn lights that have that weathertight connection, so you'll know that by that sort of bumped out connection on the back of the light. This light that I'm showing you here, this is going to be the Peterson LumenX LED trailer taillight. As you can see, it is a little tricky to get this to come off, just 'cause that tab is fairly stiff.
I don't have the strongest hands in the world, so you might not have as much trouble as I do. But you can see it does hold very firmly on the back of our light, so no worries about accidental disconnects there. As far as the length of wire that we're going to get off our plug here, going to our black and red wires, which are going to be just a slight bit shorter than our ground, it's going to be about 8 1/2" of wire there, going from the end of the wire to the beginning of our plug. The plug itself is going to be about an inch long. Just for reference, it's going to be about 3/4" tall. And that's going to do it for our look at the 3-Wire pigtail for Peterson trailer lights with a weathertight plug.
