Video Transcript for Pollak 7-Pole RV-Style Trailer Connector Review

Today, you're going to be taking a look at the Pollak mounting bracket and installation hardware for a seven pole RV trailer connector. Part number PK12711U. Our universal mounting bracket is going to allow us to mount up a seven way or a nine way connector on the back of our towed vehicle. The bracket itself is going to be a writing or bracket. So it's going to have that small section where we can either go directly into the bumper or do a no-drill application with an additional bracket that is sold separately. Our mounting bracket is going to include all the hardware necessary to mount up your connector as well as two self tapping screws. If you choose to mount it to the bumper, the bracket itself is going to have a nice epoxy coating on it.

So it's going to resist rust and corrosion. So if you're looking for a way to mount up your seven way or your nine way on the back of your towed vehicle, this is going to be a great solution to get it in a secure spot by your hitch. So now that we've seen what it looks like, let's show you how to get it installed. To mount our bracket up, you have a few different options. It is going to come with a couple self-tapping screws, so you can screw it into the facia, but we're choosing to use this short bracket. So we have a spot right off the hitch that we can mount it up to.

You'll notice that we're going to have two holes on the top of our bracket. And I'm going to take the screws that came from our short bracket. I'll drive the screws down and I'm going to lift my bracket up, lining up the holes. Then we can secure it down with the locking nut. I'm going to come back with a three eight socket. I'm going to tighten up those two nuts.

I'm going to take our wiring and I'm going to either pass this through, or I'll take the plugin, line it up and plug in the back of our seven way. Make sure it clicks into place and then you'll notice that the holes are going to line up on a bracket. So test a flat head screw through the front and then secure it on the back with another locking nut. We'll do that for all four locations and once you have all your hardware in. You can come back with a three eight socket and tighten it up. That'll finish up your look at the Pollak mounting bracket and installation hardware for seven pole RV style trailer connector, part number PK12711U..

Although this bracket comes with tapping screws to mount to a metal undersurface structure, it only has 4 screws for the 7 point hitch device to screw into it and no additional screws to mount to the hitch itself. It should come with 6 locking screws for that purpose. I had to use 2 to mount it to the hitch and 2 to mount the 7 point hitch device into the bracket, leaving 2 spots open. I went to my local hardware store and autozone and couldn’t find these exact screws and etrailer doesn’t sell them as a separate order.

Good fit with the 7-pin harness plug I purchased. One thing I was not happy about was how quickly the black-painted screws began to rust. I would suggest that the manufacturer consider the extra expense of furnishing stainless screws and nuts.

Comments
Fine, except for the non-stainless screws & nuts.

Just the right part for the job! Perfect fit for my 7-way harness and on my draw-tite hitch!

- PK12711U
by:

A convenient bracket to make the connection between the trailer hitch and to hold the electrical plug - I just had to bend it a bit after the install to allow the hitch access door in my bumper to properly close when the hitch was not being used.

I'm thinking I may spray this with rhino liner in a can to insulate the metal a bit. Makes me nervous mounting the battery cutoff switch to this and then mounting to the frame of my Jeep. I have seen pictures where people have installed the switch on hoses within the engine compartment rather than mount directly to the frame and risk a short.

This is the adapter plate that fits that 500 amp power switch and make some mounting it real simple and easy you secure the plate I need to slide the switch up through the plate and cup of screw secure it and it holds it nice and solid excellent product and a good match with the switch

My F150 had an OEM 4 pin trailer plug and hitch. The 118242 - 7 pin connector with wiring harness is the ticket. The hardest part of the install was dropping the spare tire. The plugs connect directly to the factory plugs and the harness length is the correct length. The 3035-P brake controller connector harness was just as easy. Plugs right in to the OEM plug next to the ECM connector and the other end into the brake controller. The PK12711U-26 - 7 pin bracket and hardware kit fastens directly the OEM bracket that is on the hitch. My truck had an OEM 4 pin trailer towing set up with the hitch. The OEM hitch had the bracket welded on it to attach the 7 pin mounting bracket to it. These kits make this install very easy and professional looking. If I have one complaint, the hardware kit to attach the 7 pin connector bracket is set up to fasten the bracket directly to the bumper with 2 - self tapping screws provided in the kit. The kit also includes 4 #12 machine screws with toothed washer nuts to attached the 7 pin connector to the bracket. This is fine if your truck hitch doesn't have an attaching bracket welded to it. The kit should included in it 6 #12 machine screws and nuts along with the 2 self tapping screws. Since my OEM hitch actually had a bracket welded to it to attach the 7 pin bracket to it, I had to use two other #12 screws and nuts to attach the 7 pin bracket to the OEM bracket on the hitch. Not a big deal, just a thought. It took me about 2 hours, start to finish to install the 7 pin connector, trailer controller, and add the two relays in the OEM relay/fuse box under the hood. I highly recommend these kits.

It was suggested I purchase this bracket to assist in mounting my 7-way trailer harness (item #118253) to my 2010 Honda pilot. When I tried to attach the bracket underneath and behind the bumper, I discovered it was too tall and very difficult to fit where it was required. I also found that the bracket is a 90-degree bend and will not go flush against the bumper wall. The bumper wall runs at an angle and you would need a bracket with an approx 35-degree angle to fit flush against the bumper, that's important if you want a professional clean looking mounting of the trailer harness (7- way insert) like I installed (see attached pics). So forget this bracket, Just save your money and mount onto the bumper wall, plenty thickness and you get a clean look...Maybe one day they will make the proper bracket for such an installation...

Works fine. Fit the wiring kit I ordered from etrailer perfectly. Install was simple. I'd prefer the screws to be stainless or coated as the exposed heads are already rusted after a year's install.

- PK12711U
by:

Almost perfect piece to help finish the install on a 7pole plug wiring harness and etrailer hitch. The only thing i would recommend is to purchase stainless steel hardware before you install. The hardware supplied with kit rusted out and broke within 6 months. I replaced all bolts with new stainless.

- PK12711U
by:

I probably should have researched this piece more. It would not all me to use the stock hitch bumper cover. I flattened it out, cut it down and re-bent it to fit. Works fine now and bumper cover still works as well.

This is a simple, well-made, and sturdy product that did what I needed it to do for a reasonable price. What more could you want? I salvaged my old connector, and modified the new bracket to accommodate the manual air fill valves for my Airlift load levelers. It works perfectly, and makes the valves easy to access, should the on-board compressor fail.

- PK12711U
by:

The only parts not included were the two self tapping silver screws, which was ok. I prefer to have the bracket secured with nuts and bolts.

- PK12711U
by:

Seems sturdy enough and well painted. I liked that it came with scews, although I decided to use bolts/nuts to mount it to my bumper.

The four screws that face backward on the vehicle the ones that came with it have completely rusted over and look ugly.

Will not work with a Nissan Frontier Plug!! Nissan has to make everything complicated. Just fair warning for anyone looking to buy this. I bought the plugin from the dealership so it would plug straight into my wiring harness but their hitch receiver was outrageous so I bought one off here and bought this to hold the plugin. But of course Nissan's require a special bracket that comes only on their factory hitches. I ended up building my own bracket. That being said this would have bolted straight onto the bottom of my bumper, lined up with some pre drilled holes and would have bolted straight to my new receiver.

- PK12711U
by:

This mounting bracket worked well with the hitch I bought. etrailer is my go to for all trailering needs.

- PK12711U
by:

Very easy to install, much closer to a 2 out of 10 installation difficulty. You must pull the rear facia, which has about 6 screws and 10 plastic plug in holders, unbolt the bumper (8 bolts), and bolt on the hitch in place of the bumper using the same holes. Piece of cake. It would be helpful if they would tell you that the top 2 plastic push in fasteners at the rear wheels will release if you push the tiny center button in. This is opposite of normal and can be frustrating. Less than 1 hour install. Seven pin connector looks to be a PIA, but I need the reverse light signal.

- PK12711U
by:

The tow package I purchased last year, fits great and installed perfectly. It works perfectly with my electronic under-dash brake controller. The kit came with everything that I needed and instructions were easy to read I had the entire kit installed in about 40 minutes it's work Flawless for me for over a year and I tow a variety of trailers the plug is never failed due to workmanship it is still water tight. The receiver cap spring still has excellent tension to help hold the plug into place, the only gripe I have is that I should have installed stainless mounting screwswhen I installed the kit because the mounting starting are starting to rust a little, but that's my oversight and is nothing to do with the kit and its ability to provide flawless service. I highly recommend this product if you're like me and was looking for an oem Plug and Play setup! 5 stars!

- PK12711U
by:

This is a very high quality bracket. Very easy to install, came with every thing you need. Installed this on a new 2020 Honda Passport. Took me about 5 minutes to install on the new hitch receiver and that was taking my time. The only thing I wish it would have came with is 6 bolts and nuts instead of 4 of each, I didn't need the 2 self tapping screws due to the the hitch receiver that I got came with the mount for the bracket that required 2 bolts with nuts, but that wasn't a big deal for me because I just so happened to have some on hand. I ordered this with the receiver hitch and the wire harness. Everything was shipped for free and arrived in 4 days. Anyone with basic tools and knowledge can install this. Ordering this and installing it myself saved me over $1,300 compared to letting the dealership do it. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

  • Is Tekonsha 7-Way Compatible With Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller in 2014 Toyota Highlander
Since the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness - 7-Way # 22119 gives you a complete 7-way on your 2014 Toyota Highlander, it is absolutely compatible with the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR.
