Replacement Converter for Parallax/Magnetek or WFCO RV Power Centers - 45 Amp

This converter is excellent, as is the customer service. I had some confusion about the wiring, which the etrailer tech was not able to address. He gave me the manufacturer contact, who spotted my problem from a quick picture of my install. With that corrected, the unit has been running without issue for over a month now. I replaced a 32-year-old converter and the first thing I noticed is that the lights have gone from dim/depressing to bright and cheery. I'm so glad I bought this unit from etrailer rather than the one made in China from [online].

We upgraded our converter charger in our camper and the swap went incredibly smoothly. Instructions were clear and accurate, it was a very easy swap. The unit is much better than the stock converter charger, and it works great with our AGM batteries.

After a few trips, the unit malfunctioned somewhere on the DC side (I'm thinking the control board). I emailed etrailer, explained the problem, and they replied in less than 24 hours with the RGA information. They replaced the unit without any problems, the entire process was very smooth. Item had no problems, came with many extra 12VDC circuits. Casita is a tight fit where the power supply is located. Be sure to label all wires and take pictures with your smart phone. The floor is hard, bring form to lie on. Leave your Air conditioner running. Bring band-Aids. Bring a small magnet to catch your screws. Do not bring a friend there is no room plus they will suck up all the oxygen in the small trailer. Set a timer to break every 45 minutes or cramps will paralyze you in your position. Turn your iPhone ringer off someone is sure to call you at the most in opportune time and ask you what are you doing. You will waste 40 minutes talking to whoever it is. Other than that have fun. Don’t forget to sign your will.1095660

I don’t always have in powered up. I’ll turn it on just to charge the battery or run through sytem check. I’ll stay the night or more when the home AC OR CENTAL HEATING IS OUT. Houston has had a couple of hurriacanes causing power outage for days. I just use me neighbors generator extension cord to stay comfy and dry. I do have one suggestion for anyone who has an RV and asked to get rid of all the lights that you have and plug-in LEDs. They don’t pull as many amps and they also don’t get hot at all. So you save on buying yourself another power supply down the road and you also save yourself from burning down their RV. More than likely a fuse will never blow. I even change my brake lights to LEDs. They are brighter and cooler. Have you ever touched an 1157 bulb one second after you have put it in the socket? It will absolutely burn this damn wind and snot out of you. The bad thing about burns is that once you get away from the heat it still burns for about two weeks. OK so I’m only a few tough guys. I guarantee you won’t hold onto the break by more than three seconds. Just think when you get 4 or 6 of these bulbs using power. One more suggestion don’t buy all the LEDs at one time it will cost you a child support payment.

I ordered a replacement converter (Item PD4645V) to replace the original one that was no longer charging the batteries properly. It arrived quickly, and was well packaged, so arrived in good shape.

We didn't realize that the converter had failed at first. We were gone for a month and came back to find that the refrigerator was not working. We had to clean out the moldy messy remains of the food we had left in the freezer. and were about ready to replace the refrigerator, but noticed that the 12 volt lighting system did not work. We discovered that the 12 volt batteries were dead, so we replaced them.
The refrigerator worked for a while, then quit. That led us to check the charging voltage, and found that the converter was not working.

After some evaluation, we found that the refrigerator needs 12 volt power to run, and this comes from batteries or the converter.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that, even though I'm an electrical engineer, it took a while to figure out what was going on.

Replacing the converter solved the problem, and was much less expensive and easier than replacing the refrigerator. I suspect that many people have gone to the trouble of replacing the refrigerator before finding out that the problem was actually the 12 volt converter that had failed, not the refrigerator.

The instructions were great, and clearly showed how to remove the old unit and install the new one.

I am happy with the new converter, which has been running fine for the past 4 months. I haven't had it long enough to check to see if it prolongs the life of our new batteries. However, I've found that the multi-stage charging process the new converter uses is an improvement on older fixed voltage battery chargers/converters.

By the way, I tried getting by "on the cheap" so to speak, by trying to use an inexpensive 10 amp "smart" battery charger to keep the 12 volt system going. However, It couldn't keep up with the power draw that the refrigerator and other appliances needed, even though nobody was staying there.1354524

I installed the converter myself. I do have some electrical experience but I'm more of a jack-of-all-trades with electricity being at the bottom of the list. It works fine and is absolutely quiet! My 24 year old Magntek was making a lot of noise and ruined a new battery.1414154

I ordered this to replace my 2000 vintage converter as the fan had burned out. The old converter used a transformer so it was noisy and noticeably heavier when I was switching it out with this new one.
The job of switching it out is not technically difficult but I had some trouble replacing my existing my 12 volt fuse panel out with the new one that is included with this unit. ( Not all units will need the replacement done but mine did). The locations where the existing coach wiring tie to the fuse panel are slightly different on the new fuse panel than on my old one and by chance there was not enough slack in my coach wiring to reach the new location. Once I got that fixed it went together easily.
The unit comes with new screws to hold the existing panel cover to the new unit as they are a different size. They are not color matched like originals were but it really does not show much as the panel is down at the floor.
I notice that the new unit has 2 fans, the original only had one.
I used to turn the old converter off at night as I did not like the hum it made when trying to sleep. New one seems quieter but I have not used it yet other than testing after install.
There are a couple extra parts included that you may not need as this fits several different units. Instructions are included for each different unit it can de installed in and they show which will need those parts.

Good day, I haven't replaced the old inverter. But everything looks good. The only thing is that when I opened the box the corners of the frame of the inverter was bent. Which I just grab my pliers and bent the corners back. The mail guys are a little ruff. But everything else looked okay. Thanks1311777

Chelsea got me the right part and it came ahead of schedule. Installation was a little tricky because the instructions are a little cryptic about some of the connections but that’s not etrailer’s fault. Once I got it installed it fit right in and works great and absolutely quiet. The old one buzzed loudly.

Used it on 2 long road trips this past fall. Worked perfect, charged my AGM batteries at 13.2 volts day after day. When I was off grid, my solar system charged them at 13.6 to 13.7 abit high in my opinion.
