Video Transcript for Rear View Safety Inc Backup Cameras and Alarms RVS-501N Review

Today we're going to take a look at the rear view safety three channel multiplexer control box. Now this multiplexer will connect to the fuse box in your vehicle, allows you to connect up to three cameras to your system. Has a video out connection, an RCA connection, the three camera inputs, and then back here it has three separate triggers for each camera. Does include everything shown here on the table, the multiplexer, the RCA connector and the power wiring harness with the inline fuse holder. But that should do it for the review on the rear view safety three channel multiplexer control box.

CAUTION There are two models of this unit. This unit listed that ETRAILER carries does not trigger the monitor to switch on if you are using this in an RV and the display screen is your media center. You need the RVS-501N-3. The “-3” after the part # is needed for the correct unit that has a trigger wire that will activate the display screen when placing unit in reverse or using the turn signals with side cameras that is mostly used in RV’s. It has 6 wires not 5.

Part # RVS-501N multiplexer box only works with reaview safety system screens. If you are using a RCA screen you would need part # RVS-501N-3.

  • Difference Between RVS Switchers RVS-501N and RVS-501N-3

  • Can Rear View Safety Switcher Box be Used to Add Additional Camera to Sony XAV-AX1000
The Rear View Safety Switcher Box # RVS-501N-3 can be used to switch between three cameras and even has an input designated for a reverse camera like you already have. It selects the camera to view based on the trigger wires that you run to the wiring of the cameras.

  • 3 Camera Multiplexer Recommendation for RV with 3 Cameras
The Rear View Safety Multiplexer Box - 3 Channel # RVS-501N that you referenced has a single output and trigger for the video like you need and three inputs for cameras and a trigger for each to know which to switch to. I attached a diagram that shows how it installs. This would be exactly what you setup would require assuming your problem is the multiplexer box. Which based on what you are experiencing sounds like is the case.

  • Replacement Multiplexer for Rear View Safety Camera System

  • Rear View Safety Switcher Box RVS-501N-3 Wont Trigger
Thank you very much for your purchase from etrailer of the Rear View Safety Switcher Box # RVS-501N. I reached out to the manufacturer who said to me that the issue is that you're not receiving enough voltage, and that you will need to utilize another power source to see if it triggers the camera when it is given 12V.

  • Troubleshooting RVS Camera System Where Side Camera Sticks On After Blinker
When the view is stuck what is the lighting functions of the setup doing? Are any of the turn signals or brake lights sticking on at the same time or are they functioning fine? If the light functions are staying on you have a lighting short that is confusing the camera system. If the lights are functioning fine the issue would be the multiplexer which you could replace with the # RVS-501N.

During installation you can wire the system power into the battery to keep the cameras constantly on, so that you get a camera feed while moving forward. However, which camera is turned on is dictated by passive triggers that change depending...

  • Parts Needed To Use a Rear View Safety Backup Camera Part RVS-770
In order to use the Rear View Safety Backup Camera part # RVS-770 you would need to obtain the following: Rear View Safety Backup Monitor part # RVS-6137N Rear View Safety Multiplexer Box part # RVS-501N Rear View Safety Trailer Tow Quick Connect Kit part # RVS-213-613 Unfortunately, there would be no way use to use the above camera with the factory monitor in your 2018 Ram 2500. It sounds like you are looking to add a second camera, so in order to do so you will need to add a Rear View Safety Multiplexer Box - 3 Channel # RVS-501N to switch between your cameras as I don't believe your system has multiple camera options. For a camera, I recommend the Rear View Safety Backup Camera for Pickup Trucks # RVS-TAILGATE. • Older Backup Camera with Mutliplexer Box Shows Yellow or White-Out on Monitor
What I recommend is to start by replacing the camera with something such as # VCMS17B. Basically one component at a time. So you could hardwire in a new camera to the wiring that is already installed. If the problem continues then you could move on to other components. The camera, since it is exposed to the elements, is most likely the part that needs to be replaced. Should the multiplexer box need replacing it can get a little trickier if the existing wiring you have isn't really a match...

For your desired connection, I recommend the Rear View Safety Trailer Tow Quick Connect/Disconnect Kit - 3 Camera Set Up # RVS-2133 then use the Rear View Safety Multiplexer Box - 3 Channel # RVS-501N. This will give you the video output and the female RCA connections. If you need the RCA male you can use # RVS-RCA5-AM. This is just because the camera is designed to send the signal only to the Furrion monitor.
